UBS Looking At Aleksey Vayner Leak

alekseyvayneralekseyvayner.jpgUBS was the financial firm from which the Aleksey Vayner video first leaked, according to certain press accounts. A link to the video was attached to Vayner’s two-page resume. We were, of course, one of the first places on the web to link to the video, and certainly the most popular. DealBreaker values our sources so much that we cannot reveal where we got the video. Nonetheless, we can say that it wasn’t someone at UBS who sent it to us. So lay off, you Swiss bankers.

Got more Vayner news? Send it our way. Tips (at) dealbreaker (dot) com. Thanks!

How does Yale justify admitting this kid? What a disgrace. Absolutely hilariout though

2

Posted by Blah, Oct 10, 2006 10:29AM

Why do you think he's not Yale material? Afterall, they admitted the Taliban guy w/ a 4th grade education!!!

"certainly the most popular" website?

You know, I've got nothing but love for you guys, but where's YOUR cease-and-desist letter?

Yale didn't admit Ramatullah Hashemi, he was part of a non-degree program anyone can apply to and was rejected from becoming and undergraduate in the College.

People need to grow up. So what if the kid has the guts to put his views out there?? In all employer surveys one of the things that is stressed the most is how candidates don't talk about their accomplishments - they are too modest. Others talk about that they are too arrogant. Make up your minds, for crying out loud! And shame on folks at Wall Street. Deep inside, I bet they are actually jealous. If you don't like the kid's approach, leave it alone, don't hire him. I'm sure that there are companies out there that are looking for people that have a drive, just like Vayner. How many motivational speeches out there are based on sports?? tons! Just because the kid is not in the hall of fame that doesn't mean that what he learned from sports is not valid. Grow up, people!

RA,
You are a moron.

it's funny, with those glasses on, he looks a little like the film version of stephen glass as played by hayden christensen in shattered glass.

the thing people aren't getting is the problem with this guy isn't his douchebag video. indeed, i would almost agree with those who want to pat him on the bag for trying if it wasn't so completely ridiculous. what matters is that he, much like stephen glass, has created a whole web of fictions about himself.

we might not have learned about the lies had that video not been leaked, but that doesn't change that this guy is a compulsive liar, prone to dellusional fantasy and who knows what else.

don't worry about him though, he'll be able to give tony robbins a run for his money with a little more practice.

The website video was available to the public and I've only seen it on Mr. Graber's website, so there should be no breach of his privacy on that count. Ditto for his absurd websites relating to the "charity" and the "investment firm": all public knowledge.

Forwarding his resume and writing sample around is another matter, however, as there may be privacy laws that protected his personal information that were breached by a UBS employee, or at the very least, negligence in securing private information like his resume. However, I haven't seen that his resume was posted on any website, although it has been forwarded several thousand times around the city.

Oh, we got the "C&D," if you can call it that. I didn't think it was interesting enough to post, given that it's a guy without a lawyer pretending to be a guy with a lawyer. I mean, we get those ALL THE TIME.

But just to be nice, I did replace the photo of dancing Aleksey with a photo of a dancing kitten.

10

Posted by raincoaster, Oct 10, 2006 1:25PM

Yeah, but can that kitten bench 450 pounds?

I'm of the opinion that any lout with ten hours of training could handle that dancing, and also that it looks like he's used a body double for the skiing segment. Anybody with me?

11

Posted by the rat, Oct 10, 2006 1:34PM

You overestimated the 10 hours training for the "dance" steps, raincoaster. He just poses, he's not dancing. The chick's doing all the real dance moves.

Thanks, DD! We're essentially a 24/7 newsgathering operation on Aleksey Vayner now. We may have to change our name to Vaynergate.

13

Posted by Hunter, Oct 10, 2006 3:05PM

Listen, it's obvious this kid is completely out there. I can't speak on the dancing with any significant knowledge. However, the weight training and tennis are well within my reign. I played professional tennis for ten years at the highest levels. There are only a handful of players whom can serve 140mph or more. This kid does not fall in the range of Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, Patrick Rafter or Mark Philippoussis just to name a few of those in that range. Ten years on tour, a serve and volley player my peak serve was max 130. And in regard to the lifting. Lets be real, he claims to put up all that weight, yet we see him "dancing" in a black under armor shirt skin tight. Please that skinny ass body wasn't pushin up that weight. And one last thing, that scene of the skier, that looks remarkably like a scene I've seen in a Warren Miller Ski movie.

This kid is a douchebag

Regarding the comment: "People need to grow up. So what if the kid has the guts to put his views out there??" his personal views are one thing, and applying to a highly competitive and prestigious job with a resume full of lies is another. Integrity is what mainly drives wallstreet. This guy deserves all the humiliation wallstreet can offer to discourage others from taking such dishonest path.

Shug-TEED: "Integrity is what mainly drives wallstreet (sic)"

You've GOT to be kidding.

18

Integrity is mainly what drives hiring on wall street. It's the most regulated industry there is.

Besides drug trafficing

Watching that video is painful---it's a shame, the guy has a heck of a resume, but 'blew it' in self-promotion. He should have filled out a career passport on
Quietagent.com, anonymous candidate sourcing tools for the already employed looking for their next, best opportunity.

Good luck, aleskey....

I work at the gym where he supposedly lifted the 140 lb dumbells that were pictured in the NY Post. ( I haven't seen the video) We don't even have 140 lb dumbells, the heaviest we have are 120 lb dumbells. so right there he is lying about that as well!

I cannot believe what a narcissistic douche-bag this kid is. He is actually offering advice to these potential employers about how to succeed! Aleksey. Vayner. Fails.

24

Posted by b-ros, Oct 13, 2006 9:43PM

this guy is without doubt the worst human being i've ever come across........ oh no, my negative attitude will hinder the pursuit of my goals!!!!

25

Posted by Will Winters, Oct 15, 2006 8:14PM

Master Satirist? If only the guy had realised the genius of his video he would have made more money that 5 years on Wall Street!

26

Posted by Dane, Oct 16, 2006 12:50AM

After reading this stuff i was expecting something really bad...ya its arrogant, but seriously a lot of people in that environment are, and they succeed in it. Don't really understand why so many people care if someone is a cocky self-promoter?

27

Posted by Andrew Davion, Oct 16, 2006 5:39AM

while I hate to sound like Mr AV himself and say I've made it on the street, I do have to say there is a scary number of people out there who want to do something that actually is, well, really really really dumb. Dead stupid even. Useful professional advice is to say, Dude- that ain't gonna work.... ever.... don't try.... if you do reject good advice THEN you'll be the loser.

28

Doesn't anyone realize that this is a tongue-in-cheek joke? Back when I was applying to college, our guidance counselor read us a similar essay - where the person said that they did all these completely outrageous things. I can't believe everyone has fallen for this so whole heartedly. He's KIDDING...!! It's a satire.

29

Posted by Elizabeth Spiers, Oct 17, 2006 2:47PM

If only it were. I've read the essay you're referencing and this is not a play on that. There are too many real world people who verify that he makes up these outrageous lies all the time and has been doing it for years. This isn't an isolated incident. And it's not the sort of thing you'd send around to real world employers (which he did) if you wanted a job--in any industry.

30

Posted by , Oct 17, 2006 6:00PM

Damn... Let's hope he's expelled. Since he didn't plagerize on an academic paper, chances are he'll never be expelled.

What a pity. There must be something in the honor code to nail him. The lies were mostly harmless, though the pseudo-charity that he founded was morally reprehensible.

For this guy's sake...I hope Katie (post above) is right and it is a tongue-in-cheek joke. Either way it is hands down one of the funniest things I've seen in a lot of years.

Hunter (post above) mentioned how unrealistic the 140mph serve claim is. I'll comment on the weights. Notice his spotters. He's got one on each side and one behind pulling up the 400+. And the dumbells...look at his range of motion. There's a reason he doesn't go deeper than a few inches...because he can't. I've worked out for a long time. Long enough to know that when I struggled with 350lbs my 5'0 105lb girlfriend could give me a proper spot herself. Doesn't take much, and certainly doesn't take three people providing a rediculous amount of effort.

Again...for this toolbag's sake...I hope it was a joke. If it wasn't...I hope I get his resume some day. I'd like to interview him just to see if it's the real deal.

Could be the biggest douche of all time. The Babe Riuth, the Michael Jordan of douches.

33

The Guy creeps me out. He reminds me of Patrick Bateman In Bret Ellis Book American Psycho. In the book, The Guy was a Harvard Wallstreet Banker whom spends An excessive amount of time in the perfection of his physical appearance, and he tries to elevate his status above colleagues and of course is a psychopathic murderer.. Aleksey Could so be Patrick Bateman! Creepy Dude!
