Mohammad Yunus Gets A Sloppy Wet One From Jon Stewart

We've given Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus a pretty hard time around here. So, in the interest of pretending we care about fairness, here's his most recent interview from the Daily Show. Host Jon Stewart is obviously drinking the same Kool Aid as the rest of the world, and basically slobbers all over him. Our only question is this: if they like Yunus so much, why did they make him dress like an extra from the old Battlestar Galactica series?

Battlestar Galactica? I thought it looks more like something the monkeys wore in the Planet of the Apes (1968), thus:

Thats it? You commented about how he dressed? In that case, perhaps the hollywood red carpet should be your beat.

And why do you think Daily Show had anything to do with the way he dressess? He wears hand-woven clothing made by people his bank lends money to.

He's wearing traditional Bangladeshi dress (as Concerned Citizen stated) and if that's the best you could come up with as a criticism of him, then that shows your ignorance. I'm sure that the three-piece suits that westerners wear seem just as alien to the people of Bangladesh who have been wearing this kind of clothing for thousands of years. At least this guy is trying to help people and do some good.

This is the first and last time I will read this blog. What a disgraceful comment. I can't even believe it.

Dear Asshat,

As some observant posters here noted Mr. Yunus is wearing traditional garb of his country of origin. It's really sad too see someone as simple minded, racist, and ignorant such as you liken Yunus to a monkey for his choice of clothing. But in all honesty what more can one expect from a simpleton who scoffs at the tought of a man dedicating himself to fight poverty. I end by stating what I'm sure you have heard from numerous people who have had the misfortune of knowing you: GO FUCK YOURSELF

Peace

Hey John Carney, this is so refreshing! I had no idea that people with severe mental retardation whose mothers smoked crack when they were pregnant posted blogs.

His mother smoked crack? I guess that means _my_ mother smoked crack. What a way to find out...

Stop taking yourselves so seriously.

Surely even people from the third world, such as Bangladesh, are not above light-hearted ridicule?

In fact, we could argue that Yunus, by wearing "traditional Bangladeshi dress," is showing disrespect not only for the norms of the country in which he is a guest, but also for the audience members themselves.

BTW, I really hate the way (usually white) liberals in the West start drooling over themselves whenever some third world saint becomes a media star. It's pretty pathetic, really.

First of all, I don’t see what is Dr. Yunus’s fault besides getting the Nobel Prize. It was given to him. He survived without it for 27 years and I am sure he would have survived rest of his life. He is not preaching hatred, and he is not selling cracks. He is simply trying to help the poor. That is exactly what the prize is intended for. And he did not ask for the Nobel Prize, it was given to him by the Nobel Prize committee who happens to be Swiss. And for the kid’s information, Switzerland is not a US state. People said bad things about Mother Teresa as well. And is it because they both were helping the poor people? Is there an issue helping the Poor’s?

I must disagree with the reader who said that by wearing traditional dresses he was disrespecting the country he was visiting and the audiences. This is one lame argument. I am positive that he did not fly thousands of miles and come here to disrespect the audiences of the Daily Show. If the “world norm” and the “just thing to do” were to ware the traditional dresses of the land you are visiting then people had to ware Chinese dresses when they visit Chinese territory a and Indian dresses when they visit the sub continent and ware Native American dresses when visiting the America’s.

I am pretty sure that lot’s of Kids also watch Daily Show because they think it is cool. Which is fine, but we must remember that kids are immature and they make all kinds of comments. The best policy is to simply ignore them. There is a saying in Bangladesh, “A dog may bite you but you don’t bite back a dog”.
