Of course, it's one aspect of the India story that India boosters don't like to dwell on, so we don't hear about it much. Indian success is by no means a done deal. India is going to face enormous economic, political, and social difficulties in coming years. Economic development is not ushering in a new era of democracy, as India apologists keep predicting, because the middle classes keep voting for right-wing authoritarians. My money is on China. Stop listening to smug Indian professionals in the West who keep boasting that their country will overtake the US in a few years.
