Oh, please. I'm pretty sure I've been lower than this before. Besides, we're only taking this to the logical conclusion implied by the Times story, which made a point of things you rarely find in a story about male economists, like her marital status. And they ran that fetching picture.

So, see, it's like ironic or something. But also, we really want to know if you think she's hot.

She's first wife hot, country club hot, take home to the parents hot. AKA not hot, but cute and respectable.

Also, she's crazy young for a Phd. She's 26! Brilliant, cute, driven, and working with the Freakonomics crowd. Who knows how good Shapiro's work actually is (advantages of TV to disadvantage toddlers... goes against the CW, very Freakonomics, and gets at the hidden problems of disadvantage, so probably actually really good despite getting an accolade from the Times), he's got a brilliant understanding of microeconomics, going long on an undervalued asset far before the wider market thanks to his material non-dsiclosed information. He's got a future in hedge funds!

Hitting a new low isn't necessarily a bad thing. And no, she's not hot, but she is quite attractive. "Fetching" is an apt description. She's certainly better-looking than the brutes I encountered in college.

26 is pretty fast for a Phd, but she went right into her doctoral program, rather than the usual masters then doctorate. You'll notice that Levitt took 5 years to get his Phd without getting a masters.

Course I'm more used to real sciences, where everyone gets their masters in 2-3 years and then Phd in 3-4, like in Physics or Engineering. I forgot that Economics was "special".

Matt: Outside of Spiers, I highly doubt that anyone has been below the Mason-Dixon Line outside of Spring Break. Very WASP/WEEJ with no drawl. You are apparently confused.

I agree with Matt, she looks like she could absorb a few left jabs while calculating (with multivariable differential equations solved in her head, no doubt) just when and where to land a nasty right hook.

Oh my! If Emily Oster is hot or cute, the Dalai Lama must be Mr Universe. The only things that save her are her decent teeth and complexion.
Getting a PhD at 26 means the only thing she did in her life was econ work and is surely extremely narrow-minded and has no culture and life experience beyong her very narrowly-defined world of existence.

This picture is terribly unfair to her. I recommend watching her TED talk. I have never got so excited while watching a lecture about AIDS.

You really need a body shot to get across just how sexy she really is. She is one of those lucky academic white girls that has been blessed with a nubile young booty that can make you cry. In other words she has a superior ass. Its plump and shapely and just perfect. It augments her instructional gestures.

Oh yes, i hear she is pretty smart also.
