I hate my MacBook! But don't let that color your iPhone Experience

Apple’s earning report won’t be out ‘til Wednesday, but thanks to AT&T’s, we now know the iPhone’s first 30 hours in existence were an iFailure. The wireless carrier reported 146,000 activations during the mobile’s first weekend on sale, meaning the iPod/cell phone combo didn’t come close to Piper Jaffray’s expectation of 500,000. PJ analyst Gene Munster he was “disappointed” by the news, which is so much worse than if he'd said he was mad.

CIBC reported a “significant” decline in babe mags over the last ten days. They also anticipate a new version of the 3G to be released in the US in November, earlier than previously expected. That could mean the people Jobs ‘n Co. are banking on buying a phone today will stop, remember that buying first generation Apple products is more risky than unprotected sex with a Port Authority local, put off their purchases ‘til the new version is released, and stall sales even further.

Shares of Apple are down -2.73% ($3.95). In other news, people buy Apple products at the Apple store.

Bess: what's wrong with your Mac Book?

As for you other whiners it clearly states in the Mac Book manual that they are portable computers not "laptop" computers and are not to be placed on your lap. Also sounds like you guys have old Mac Books I believe that alleviated this problem in later editions. Any way my Mac Book Pro works fine to me and certainly never crashes.

the macbooks (what bess owns) are polycarbonate (the pros are aluminum), so hers doesn't get quite as hot, but it's not surprising considering there's an entire computer in your lap. are any other manufacturers markedly better (without resorting to a loud-as-balls fan)?

btw, balevin, did you go to the store for the battery recall and talk to them about your issues? don't make me come down there and make you go to that flagship store.

Yes, Tim ("3:04"), I did get the new battery and asked them why my less-than-a-year old 'Book is running so slow. The "Genius" took it to the back room, pushed some papers around for about 20 minutes and then said it was "user damage." This was the 4th time I've had to take it in to be fixed since I got it (the second time was because when they had it for two week the first time, they "forgot" to put a necessary piece in). Just admit it-- I have a lemon. It's not going to hurt your quarterly earnings. I love you.

How are the M's today?

yeah, there's a pattern with most technology stores that the consumers might know more than the employees (best buy, circuit city in particular). similar thing happened to my sister's imac, the 40-year-old trainee "genius" seemed to do nothing to help it. when i got home i took out a faulty ram chip and now it works swimmingly (one of the first things they should have checked). not to turn this into a tech support page, but you might need to back up your data on someone's external hard drive, then do a fresh wipe and install of the hard drive, unless it's clearly a hardware issue.

PS: "Are you afraid of snakes, spiders or rodents? People Who Suffer From Animal Phobias Wanted for A Study Of Brain Function

We are conducting a research study at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital to examine brain function in people who suffer from small animal phobias of snakes, spiders or rodents. The entire study will take approximately 4 hours and will involve a clinical evaluation, filling out questionnaires, and completing cognitive tasks while “pictures” of your brain are taken using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Only individuals without pacemakers, aneurysm clips, or other metallic objects in the head and upper body are eligible for MRI. Participants will be paid up to $150 for their time.

If you are right-handed, between the ages of 18-64, suffer from phobias of snakes, spiders or rodents, and are interested in this study, please call 617-855-2239.
