Regarding CFC, some 5th tier independant equity shop said CFC was prepping for a bankruptcy filing this weekend. This was roundly ignored. However, following the disclosure of fraudulant (ie "recreated" in the words of CFC's own lawyers) documents by CFC regarding one homeowners problems, the dismissed bankruptcy note took on some credence.

That, plus the ~$5bn in CDO liquidations on the horizon (see Reuters) made everyone run for the exits.

i would venture since cfc has under $300 million subprime residuals as of last quarter and no known cdos (?) the liquidation is not particularly, or at least not 20% worth of germaine to countrywide investors
