Dobbs vs Blankfein

oscarsmall.jpgAlright so it would appear we jumped the gun a bit earlier re: Dobbs vs Blankfein. Dobbs didn’t actually say he wanted to rough Blankfein up but he did indeed invite the Little Fella to step into the ring, challenging the CEO to “say it to my face, not to my back, Partner” (we’re in the Old West now). He also called Blankfein a “moron” and a “hot shot,” which we’re pretty sure he meant in the derogatory sense. Then he held up his fists in a threatening manner (if you’re threatened by middle aged men who probably have Type II diabetes) and said “Seriously. Come on down. Open invitation.” So, actually, we maintain that he does want a physical fight. Judge for yourself after the jump, and if you see LB today, pass it on that Dobbs wants to rearrange his face. He'll come around eventually.

Gotta love the original cable business reporter looking to throw down with the head of Goldman. Maybe this is a trend, and we're headed for the day when a clearly insane Dylan Ratigan is frequently spotted on Broad St waving a camera, harrassing tourists, and then shouting "BACK TO YOU MARIA!" til the cops come...

Lou Dobbs has lost his mind. And with the American flag waving in the background no less.

Come on, CNN, do the right thing.

Let me tell you about my MD and his wife, also a successful banker. Three kids, watched by two illegals. Wonderful women, both. Hard working, clean living. Their labors paid off the books at reasonable cost allow MD and wife to work hard and be productive tax paying citizens. At the end of the day, even though they're paid off the books, America prospers (based on the increased productivity of MD and wife). Then, one of them gets acute apendicitis (sp??), goes to the emergency room in Queens and racks up bills like you wouldn't believe. Net net the US economy is probably still ahead of the game as a result of their contributions. Problem is that now its impacting me. My NYC taxes are paying for their health care but I haven't seen any benefit. All that's been accruing to MD and wife. Where's the justice in that? So there is some truth to what Dobbs is saying.

I am going to guess that your MD and his wife makes over $2 million a year. I am also going to guess that they own a home. So they probably pay out $350,000 a year in taxes (city, state, federal?). Their 3 kids go to private school (thus saving the TP's of New York city about $18,000 TO $20,000 A YEAR). This goes on for 5 years before the illegal gets sick and needs her appendix out (a 36 hour stay in the hospital and laproscopic operation) costs the TP about $50,000 at the most but i am going to guess that your MD pays the tab so no one get wise to his "illegal" scheme (pun intended). Net net you as a citizen of NY are still way ahead of the game. To say nothing of how much the illegal are her family living i NY (or are the "illegals" also exempt from sales tax). You as a NYC tax payer are always going to come out ahead in this situation.
Seriously Lou Dobbs is so wrong it is not funny, just dangerous.

Better an unfortunate hardworking person be benefitted by my taxes than some deadbeat thug from the ghetto or some horny 20 yr old unwed school-dropout unemployed mother of 3.

@5:03 The flaw in the argument is the assumption that the MD and wife wouldnt be generating $350K per year in tax revenues if the illegals were not there to help them. Not true. Without the two illegals they would work as hard and pay as much in taxes. They would however have to spend more money on child care, which is currently being subsidized by the rest of us (who bear costs like the emergency room). The woman who cleans my apt every two weeks is also illegal, so I benefit too. Just pointing out though that the Dobbs argument is not entirely without merit. When you add to this the resentment of people who don't live in park av coops (essentially gated communities) but instead cape cods on LI and see the house around the corner filled with 15 mexican day laborers, I can understand the ire that Dobbs provokes.

@5:23, You wrongly attribute the cause of ire for the LI types. Even if the illegals are a burden on the system assuming your line of services of illegals benefitting the wealthiest the most (which I think is untrue, nonetheless) - then the wealthiest are also hit the most because they pay the most in taxes!

You and I (assuming not amongst the wealthiest) are paying less than them in taxes so the 'burden' of the illegals on us is lower than on the wealthiest.

And the LI types who are effectively paying zilch (after taking into account the thousand credits and entitlement schemes they benefit from) are not burdened AT ALL by the illegals' use of social services because they dont pay for the social services anyway!

The cause of ire is that they have been brought up to think that they are somehow more 'special' from the rest of the world - that even though they may be worthless in terms of education and skills - they somehow deserve a better quality of life than similarly skilled people do elsewhere in the world.

And when they are shown the 'true' value of their skills and the stupidity of their 'birthright', they resent it.

@5:03, LD is not dangerous. As you may have figured out from some of the posts here - he is only the voice of many.

@ 6:16
Just because someone is the voice of many does not preclude that voice from being dangerous(bin laden and hitler as an example).
@ 5:23
the flaw in your argument is not taking into account that the MD's wife may decide to stay home if the cost of child care becomes to high thus creating a net loss to the NY economy (not merely the NY tax rolls).

@10:52 5:23 here... NFW she's gonna stay home. Where would you rather be?: dressing up and getting your ego stroked at work or home smelling your kid's shit. The fact that the rest of us subsidize that care is icing on the cake. She's earning beyond the level where the cost of child care is a meaningful part of the work or dont work equation.

So I see that @5:23 doesnt have any response for @6:16.

@5:23 here again.. If you must know, no response for 6:16 cause I deemed those comments to be a goofy rant. "LI types effectively paying zilch after taking into account entitlement schemes..." Huh?? Most middle class suburban people I know (like my parents)pay 30% of their income in state and local taxes and some hefty property taxes on top of that as well.

As for rich people proportionately sholdering the burden for supporting illegals, see what's going on in Mt Kisco. Local schools filled, social services strained. At the same time the rich folks in neighboring Bedford have access to cheep gardeners. Mt Kisco is paying while Bedford benefits.

@ 3:58, anything you cant respond to is a 'goofy rant' as opposed to your profounfly intellectual commentary @5:23?

Irrespective, the burden of illegals burdening the social services should affect the people who pay the taxes on a sliding scale. And just to rehash CBO statistics - the top 1% pay 39.4% of the federal taxes (and I would doubt given the uniformity of taxation schemes that overall tax burden would be much more different). So even if they were utilizing 40% of the net benefits of ALL the illegals, they would still be disproportionately burdened.

The top 10% (by no definition 'middle-class') paid 70% of the taxes.

Then come the middle classes - lets say the next 25%, who probably contribute towards another 15%. And lets now forget - these people ALSO benefit from the illegals. I am guessing that the delivery guys, construction guys, share croppers, fruit pickers, meat factory workers (incidently these - not nannying - are the proffessions illegals are employed the most in) disproportionately benefit the 'middle-class' by bringing their costs - even through the top 10% end up paying 70% of the welfare cost.

And the schools and communities that illegals crowd are the ones that the bottom 40% populates. Not only are these people NOT contributing to welfare - they are effectively net negative tax-payers because they are the ones utilizing the services. Surely the top 10% are not utilizing ANY welfare.

So once again, highly misplaced allocation of 'ire'. Given the illegal's economic propfile - they only compete for services / jobs with the lower strata of society, not with the 'middle classes'. And give that this lower strateapay nothing for the facilities and thier usage or 'burdening' of the system is no different from that of the illegals. After all, why once again does a person paying 0 tax have the right to get the state to spend $12,000 annually an every child of his/her?

Obviously, any of you defenders of illegal immigrants have never spent any time in Los Angeles.

If you want to see the true consequences of this insanity come and spend a couple of weeks here. I don't mean in Brentwood, or the Hollywood Hills or the Westside either.

Illegals are making life unbearable for the majority of citizens. The schools are broken and untenable, the emergency rooms are such a burden that they are literally closing down hospitals. Don't even get me started on the freeways.

Gangs, crime and third-world diseases, hit-and run and drunk-driving fatalities from wetbacks have exploded, now they are even starting a race-war by shooting up Black neighborhoods and murdering innocent children all over South L.A.

Those of you whom see the problem myopically as a cost / benefit analysis lack peripheral vision. The problems they cause go far beyond just economic to include cultural, racial, law enforcement, infrastructure and systemic burdens that hit the native working class the hardest. The burden of law-breaking illegal alien immigrants will soon become intolerable outside of Los Angeles as well.

Think about it. These are uneducated people, brought up in societies where they are inculcated with hostility against America and a racist view of "Gringos." Mexico in particular practices a brand of racist jingoism that would be considered neanderthal in the U.S. Their first interaction with our society is one of breaking our law. They are pre-disposed to break it whenever they feel they can profit by it, and oh, by the way "Fuck the Gringos!"

Let's revisit after they take over YOUR neighborhood, shall we?
