Chelsea Clinton Slams Avenue Capital’s Health Care Plan!

Chelsea Clinton Is UnhealthyThe best-known employee of Avenue Capital announced that she isn’t happy with their health care plan yesterday. Chelsea Clinton, who works for the hedge fund, mentioned that she had problems with Avenue Capital’s health care plan on a MSNBC appearance broadcast from Milwaukee.

"If you have health care and you're not happy with it -- like me who has employer provided health care, but I'm not happy with it -- and if you are one of the 100 million who are uninsured at some point throughout the year... you'll be able to buy into a Congressional health plan," Chelsea Clinton said, according to the Politico blog.

Ouch. You employ the daughter of a former and a prospective president, and this is the thanks you get?

she is such a hag. looks so much like her hag mother.

Posted by lift all the offers, Feb 12, 2008 10:33AM

I am shocked, shocked, shocked by the subtle, yet barely perceptible implication here that Chelsea is whoring herself out to help her mom become president.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 10:36AM

would you hit it?

Posted by Joe Smith, Feb 12, 2008 10:37AM

Ok, so she can actively campaign for her mother, make speeches and stump but the press can't criticize her?
Hilary DID pimp her out, we just can't say it.

PS I've seen her in person in Union Square and regardless of my politics, she is one fugly chick.

Posted by I'm a dude, Feb 12, 2008 10:37AM

the reason she is not happy with her health care plan is because Avenue, unlike Goldman, does not cover sex change operations.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 10:41AM

Sounds like she's proposing a free market solution here. The kind of thing that's usually red meat for the DB fan base. What's the problem here guys? You still sore that Giuliani imploded?

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 10:41AM

If you don't like their plan, go to CANADA and experience their shit health care.

@10:41, how can you even mention socialized healthcare and free market in the same sentence?

Posted by lift all the offers, Feb 12, 2008 10:53AM

@ 10:41 How is the congressional plan a "free market solution?" The free market solution is that Chelsea can peddle whatever skills she has somewhere where she likes the plan.

It sure is ironic.

Let me give you an example here of how you could be covered and unhappy. Last job I had offered a low cost plan with a high deductible but paid 100% for an in-network annual physical. This was perfect for me, single male, early 30s, healthy. Current job has much more limited choices, so I'm in a much higher cost plan with a lower deductible. I'm paying for more health care than I want.

Posted by I'm a dude, Feb 12, 2008 11:21AM

She is just like her bitch ass ugly wailing mother.
She says she is not happy with her plan. living in the state of new york, she can buy her own individual plan, from empire blue cross, oxford or any other insurer. what is she complaining about. she also can wait till she gets sick to buy it, because of the NY state, and many other states', law that they must provide insurance to everyone, no matter what state of health they may be in.
After bitching about not being happy with her plan, she quickly switches to the 100m americans with no health plan. big diff there chelsea. they are not in the same boat as spoiled-bitch-daughter-of most loathsome-couple(?) on earth, who got a job by a hedge fund so marc lasry can pull some connections.

Yes, the facial boil remark really brings home the wisdom of your theory that Obama should not even bother to show up. A boil that can largely be offset by Hillary's thick ankles and hideous ugly, Obama's greater funds, young voters, advertising, strength among male voters, momentum and assorted other factors.

Hillary has to be praying to Jesus (not the deity, the hispanic men of same name) to vote for her by a plurality. And I would imagine eventually hispanic voters are gonna get annoyed with this "You are in my pocket" mentality that the Clinton's also imagined they had with black voters.

If it were winner take all perhaps you don't show up and worry about your boil. Since these things are proportional, you show up and ignore whimsically wrong commenters who read polling data yet ignore polling results and actual reality.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 12:14PM

Finn: The reality is that the Woodstock generation feels good about Obama, in the same way they felt good about Gary Hart, Paul Tsongas, Gene McCarthy. It goes on and on. Lay off Chelsea. She's doing her best. She didn't ask to be the progeny of Bill and Hillary. I think she has a nice figure.

Obama's got the momentum, no question about it. He's smart and appealing. But what does he mean by shouting "Yes, we can!" all the time. Yes, we can get ourselves all worked up shouting slogans we don't understand! And working for change. Everyone's ready to work for change, even though the end purpose isn't defined.

If only ending the war, protecting the environment, and achieving a health care solution were as easy as putting together a collegiate audience for an Obama stump speech.

Posted by lift all the offers, Feb 12, 2008 1:03PM

@12:46 I'm sorry, I am not an Obama supporter, but I don't see how Hillary claims solutions to your listed issues. Ending the war - she voted for it. Protecting the environment - what exactly are her environmental credentials? Health care solution - her 1993 effort was roundly rejected and imploded under the weight of lawsuits around her secret task force.

Finn @12:32 Read carefully. The comparison with Hart et. al. is with regard to their appeal to the Woodstock generation. The other half of the equation is that Obama's is black, which makes for a coalition that Hart et al couldnt match. I repeat: he's all style, no substance. A guy that makes suckers feel good.

Posted by Anonymous @ 12:46 pm, Feb 12, 2008 1:27PM

Hey! What made you jump to the conclusion that I thought Hillary Clinton could end the war, protect the environment, and achieve a health care solution? If I thought things were that simple, I'd be an Obama supporter!

I personally think Hillary is going to have a very difficult time getting nominated, let alone win the general election. Frankly, I think the Dems are going to go with Obama.

Nothing is going to get done on the war, the environment, or health care without a broad, across-party-lines consensus in Congress. Don't mean to be a pessimist, but don't see that happening very soon. As I said above, I don't think Hillary is going to get into office, and if she did, she'd be stopped by all the Hillary-haters.

If Obama gets elected, I don't think he'd have a realistic clue as to how to get any of it done.

Did you think that just because I objected to people being mean about Chelsea I was all for Hillary? Nope. Just didn't like the meanness.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 1:27PM

We're f&cked either way, hillary or obama. btw, I gotta joke for you kids (heaven forbid):

On hillary's 1st night in the white house, she sees the ghost of George Washington, and asks him what she can do to make the country great. He replies, "Do not lie", "eek," says Hilldog, "I don't think I can do that".

Next, she sees the ghost of Thomas Jefferson and asks him the same question. "Listen to the People," he says. "Wow, I really don't want to do that", says the Hillary.

Next, she sees the ghost of Abe Lincoln, and asks again, "what can I do to make this country great?".

Abe's response is delivered quickly:

"go to the theater"

Posted by Big Ben, Feb 12, 2008 1:34PM

We really need to get off the "bush-clinton" merry go round. It's obvious chelsea would not be working at a hedge fund if it wasn't for her last name. Since health care is FREE for all our blood-sucking politicians, I'm sure she's covered under her mother & father's plan to begin with (not to mention her employer) so what is she complaining about? Slick Willie is still a perv.

@11:22/12:14/1:24

You said "The reality is that the Woodstock generation feels good about" Obama".

The Woodstock generation is how old now? Let's see... born in 1948, 20 years old in 68, 30 in 78, 40 in 88, 50 in 98, 60 in 2008.

Yep, YOU need to read the world closely. From the polls you so closely understand, that Woodstock generation is nearly senior citizens now and leaning towards Hillary.

If you just don't like the guy, say so,but repeating things about boils or voters for him being suckers does not a point prove. In fact, nearly every candidate on both sides have put their policy positions out there in print and voice. But when making speeches, day after day, that's how you put people to sleep.

But let's agree to disagree and see what reality proves.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 1:53PM

Agree to disagree. But to clear one thing up, by "Woodstock generation" I mean shorthand for what was derided during the Tsongas campaign as "brie eating Volvo drivers". The subset of affluent liberals that you find in places like Park Slope, Upper West Side, Westport, Montclair, Cambridge. The ones David Brooks wrote about in BoBo's in Paradise. The point (not mine - its written about a lot) is that such people were never much of a voice, but combined with the minority vote are now part of a potent coalition.

Posted by Anominous, Feb 12, 2008 1:59PM

politics aside, Obama has picked people who are running a pretty d-mn effective campaign. not consistent with someone who is "all style and no substance."

Posted by Ramblin' Wreck, Feb 12, 2008 2:05PM

@11:25 (who was @10:41)

Why does everyone think universal healthcare = free healthcare? Its just not true...

Higher taxes to pay for it, increase in costs because hospitals, etc. know they can get away with charging more (just look at all the Medicare fraud), and a decrease in quality of care because doctors don't go to school for 10 years to get paid $70,000/yr and because the lines will be ridiculous (Post Office anyone?).

I don't want a damn helicopter government coming to "rescue" me from imaginary ills.

Posted by , Feb 12, 2008 2:23PM

What you're conveniently ignoring is that once you take into account the deductibility of employee paid health care (which represents a subsidy from the govt to your employer), plus the fact that the government pays directly for medicare, medicaid, veterans benefits and prescription drugs, a very large portion of health care expenditures are already govt paid. Yet those benefits are not distributed in an equitable way.

Posted by I'm a dude, Feb 12, 2008 2:28PM

you're an imbecile. sounds like you're reading off the hillary song sheet.

Yea I see what your saying about that "type" of voter and the Woodstock mindset/prototype, and whether that will ultimately hold up.

I would probably add that it's the people who lack subtance more than the candidates (in that people will follow anyone who can speak well, whether a Bill Clinton or an Obama), unfortunately.

Canada has a 4-tiered health care system.

The first system is the public system.
The second system is the public system if you have connections.
The third system is the pseudo-private clinic system for elective procedures (this system is essentially useless for anything "substantial" that a user might require)
The fourth system is where we use our credit cards in the US in places like Rochester, Houston, etc, etc.

Overall, it is really a case of being able to jump the queue... and one's ability to do that is generally dependent on connections within the system. It is relatively easy to become marginalized in the Canadian system, simply due to the effects of bulk throughput. You need to be just as much an advocate for your own care as you do in the US.

That all being said, in past discussions with my doctor buddies and remembering that I live in one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in North America, the last thing you want to do (at least in this province) is get sick, because then you have to start playing a very demanding game.

@11:56 - Thanks for your concern. I was out of the office negotiating Anal_yst a job (err...market hedge...) as a welder up in the oilsands.

While you observe Jews have peaked, I'd like to point out the enormous number of non-Jew families in which the parents are extremely successful (i.e. moving up the curve), while the children are more-or-less f'ups floating through life.

This is not a specific religion issue, but rather a parenting one.

Oh, and @ Calgary, hows that Syncrude deal lookin bro?

Posted by Random Banker, Feb 12, 2008 6:13PM

Anal_yst:

What parenting are you referring to exactly? Turning your kid into a total head case? I mean I grew up with a lot of jewish friends, some are "successful", most are not. I'd say indian and asian parents are better at brow beating their children into "success" but they're all head cases too. All those high expectations ruins more kids than the Catholic Priesthood.

P.S. This statement is in no way intended to be antisemitic and is merely an observation.

@ Random Banker - Maybe not anti-semetic, but definately anti-catholic

Posted by Random Banker, Feb 12, 2008 6:45PM

Yeah, I'm an atheist. If I thought there was a such thing as evil then organized religion would be it.

@Anal - $165/hr all-in. Then subtract your F-350 dually welding truck, meth, pot, coke and Carhartt expenses. Your new friends in the Hell's Angels await...

@BB - I forgot Tier 5. It's Tier 4 but with free value-add because your nerd friends from high school who now have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD and are working state-side help sherpa you or your family member through to the right people. It's just horrific to then find out that the Canadian system won't accept said double-board-certified MD/PhD back home without requalification. WTF?

Avenue Capital to Chelsea Clinton: Go Fuck Yourself.

Obama and McCain win Maryland and Virginia primaries. Obama takes the lead over Clinton in the delegate count. Just heard Obama give his stump speech ... again. Time to get new material, Senator, or we are going to get very tired of hearing that it's never wrong to hope in America.

On the other hand, I'm definitely not down for another 100 years of war in Iraq.

Which way to go? Naivete or ossification?

@ CS - well my tier 2 connections mean that I know enough to sherpa my own way through, but my friends who interned at Mass General can always be called if I really need to deal with crap. Apparently if the family business built half the hospitals in the province, you have reasonable connections. I wouldn't know about the orphaned MDs - those who went to the US ended up coming home, and having daddy run the relevant specialty apparently helped get their accreditations. Shocking.

@8:27 I don't care what they have to say about policy. Mayo is a decent place to get treated. Universal healthcare gets them soo much business it isn't funny. If you want to know how well UH works, talk to a doctor who works in it and see how many would encourage their kids to become doctors. No one I know wants their kids to become docs. A few did, but hardly any outside of two families of neurosurgeons. None. I'm family friends with the board of 3 hospitals and all of their senior staff (building hospitals and other stuff). Nobody will let their kids become docs in Canada - if they're smart enough they can easily make 10x+ doing anything else.

Yes I do mean 10x+ Senior doc will maybe (maybe, maybe, maybe) make 300k. Plastic who isn't elite Toronto plastic might make 500k (more likely 300 but could possibly hit 500).

Even a decent senior accountant or lawyer can make a few million a year. Someone with actual talent.... Obviously Canadian healthcare sucks given the quality of people that it can attract.

@10:26 Like the typical empty suit, he has no new material.

@BB - If it's been in the last 5 years, I wouldn't be surprised if your MGH friends interned alongside my MGH friend or are/were on a first-name basis. There are only so many ex-hockey player, bearded, Canadian, 30-something uber-doctors affiliated with Hahvaad.
