If you are totally confused why DealBreaker has been doing so much politics this week, we’re now ready to reveal the secret: it’s fat Tuesday. We’ve been drunk all week in advance of our annual observance of Lent! Drink early and often.
Also, people are irrationally voting all around the country today. But don’t vote at the official voting spots–it only encourages them–vote right here. Make your voice heard. Or at least your click.
(And, yes, we realize the poll should ask “whom do you support” but that sounds too mannered for a political poll.)

Ron Paul represents not only freedom for America but an example for all mankind. God bless Ron Paul the Patriot!

Ron Paul getting 20% support in this poll. 2 out of 10 people support him yet the mainstream media ignores him. Despite that he will win a state (Alaska) today.

  9. Posted by Give-up Agreement | February 5, 2008 at 11:31 AM

Carney, it’s a flawed poll. You have the Ds and Rs on the same list. You should have split them up. I’m too lazy to do the math.

  10. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 11:33 AM

Obama all the way. Socially liberal, more fiscally moderate than Clinton. Will not completely send the country down the tubes. Respects individual choice by making health care affordable (which everyone wants), but not mandating that you buy it (nanny-state Clinton). Realizes that Republicans can have ideas as well, and will work with them. Strong support from business in Chicago, where people know him best. Possesses common sense and intellect, which is sorely lacking in American politics.

I’ve read his newsletters and can tell you he’s the choice of all good Republican/KKK-supporting Americans!

  15. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 11:57 AM

No Huckabee? For shame, the guy polls 2x that of R. Paul.
Obama’s got momentum, I’d think he could take the nomination…and if head-to-head against McCain, he’ll be the next President. He appears to be a better choice on D side than Hillary, whereas McCain will crack the R side even further than R. Paul has already done with his ultra-conservative (and libertarian) leanings.

  16. Posted by Spleen | February 5, 2008 at 12:05 PM

To the Huckabee supporters: Mike Huckabee has been isolated from this poll on the off-chance that, despite commonly-understood scientific evidence, raving homophobic bigotry might be contagious.
I voted Ron “Dr” Paul because his plan to send black people down mines to dig for gold, thus solving America’s crime problems and economic problems at a stroke (because gold == economic wealth… sure you can’t eat it or burn it or live in it and its use in industry is extremely limited, but look how shiny it is!) is sheer genius. I feel giddy whenever I think about Ron Paul. So-called ‘doctors’ tell me it’s colloidal silver poisoning, but what do they know? There’s only one doctor I trust.

  17. Posted by Anal_yst | February 5, 2008 at 12:05 PM

    @ 11:57
Ultraconservative != libertarian, so uh, yea RP, can we just drop him from the discussion already, all he’s gonna do is take away votes from legitimate candidates like many a candidate have done in past elections, with horrific results.

Consider what the head of an NAACP chapter says about Ron Paul and the charge of racism:

Consider what one Hispanic former aid says about Ron Paul and racism:
    http://uspolitics.tribe.net/thread/61da16bf-7fe9-4c47-a01c-e2cc8ce4a3bd
And all of this is consistent with the accounts of hundreds of Blacks, Latino’s, Asians and many other people that have met, talked, and worked with the man. This is why he has more support from blacks then any other republican candidate.
Who are the Real Racists here on this site? I don’t think it’s Ron Paul supporters.

I am a farmer in Iowa and have a giant portrait of Ron Paul painted on my barn which is visible from space and I-80. I welcome the Latino’s to our great state and my fourth daughter is even learning Latin so she can preach the gospel of Ron Paul across the land. Ron Paul’s message of hope and his flat tax proposal is the only way to redeem the brown people from the Godless communism they teach each other down in those pig farms.
Ron Paul came to my town and spoke last spring and my corn yield set a new record this fall. God bless this great country. God bless Ron Paul and God bless Monsanto.

I am a middle class, working Tradesman in Texas. I am married with 3 children. My wife is a stay-at-home mother. I work full time and pay all my taxes.
However, it seems that as each year passes I find myself further in the government hole.
Taxes keeps increasing due to governments inability to control itself like a pig in a playpen, health care costs rising due to the lack of motivated but still fat and lazy or insured citizens (illegal), my families’s safety is at risk due to the poor judishial system and the governments “NEED” to irritate and poke EVERY country they see as not being “FIT”, I find myself feeling like a criminal because I reserve my right to keep and beer arms, my children are taught left-wing liberal propaganda in school despite my disagreements so my wife homeschools them.
This country is in a serious need of change and Ron Paul is the one to bring it to us all.
Thank you dealbreaker for allowing another place on the internets to make our voices be herd! Thank you Dr. Paul!

An Obama presidency would be terrible for Wall Street, terrible for white Americans, and terrible for America. Black rule does not work. Blacks fuck up every country they govern. Just look at Africa. Or Washington DC, for that matter. Obama clearly has issues with whites. He is an anti-white bigot. If Obama is elected, let’s hope someone(s) does a JFK on him.

I’m sure the VC types will like the fact that Obama has proposed completely eliminating capital gains taxes on start-up companies. Pretty sure his upper-income bracket and non-start-up capital gains tax increases are much more mild (still below pre-Bush levels) than Hillary’s as well, balanced by a lower cost health care proposal and quicker exit from Iraq.

Who wants to send a one-term senator to be the leader of the free world? What has Obama ever run or managed? Romney would be the best for Wall St. because he’s best for the economy. Why wouldn’t you want someone with 25 years of taking companies and turning them around to take our country and turn it around?
Dems will never get my vote anyways though, because I don’t want the same people who run the DMV and/or the Post Office to have control over my medical care. Just look at France, Gr. Britain, Canada, etc. Their healthcare system sucks.
    Ron Paul : R :: Howard Dean : D

  47. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 5:04 PM

Actually, the health care systems in France and Germany have better outcomes than the US and cost less. Its not even close.
Re Romney, he screwed up big time trying to pander to the right. He should have run as the D nominee.

  48. Posted by Ramblin' Wreck | February 5, 2008 at 5:08 PM

If they wait longer than 20 mins to see their PCP, and have tax rates higher than the U.S. it is not a better outcome or lower cost. I can pay $10 copay and see my doctor tomorrow if I need to. You have to wait forever in countries w/ socialized medicine. While you may not have to pay when you go, you are still paying for it in the form of taxes. Do you really think that the government would do a better job of finding the best deal than a lot of consumers? I mean, if people can spend weeks/months researching which flat screen TV they’re going to buy, I would think they’d be willing to do the same for healthcare.

  49. Posted by Anominous | February 5, 2008 at 5:16 PM

    4:53-
Absolutely. Presidents with meager business experience and not much political experience cannot possibly rise to a real challenge. Some time wandering, a law degree, a stay in the Illinois legislature, a little time in Congress. Smooth talker, but so what? What is that good for? It is pathetic, really.
Quick quiz: which U.S. President had an almost identical resume? And what did he achieve?

  50. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 5:21 PM

@5:08 That is all so naive. You pay $10, but your employer pays $300, $120 of which is really paid by the government in the form of a tax credit. And when it comes to medicare, the governement is paying the whole thing. The bottom line is that a very big part of the healthcare bill is govt paid. As for the quality of the outcomes, thats just because you’re lucky enough to work for someone with a generous plan. Loose your job and youll be in deep shit.

I would strongly encourage everyone to vote for Ron Paul. And, if Romney really would be better for Wall Street, than why is Ron Paul AHEAD of Romney in the dealbreaker poll?
It proves that Wall Street loves Ron Paul.

  53. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 5:30 PM

@5:16 Hope yr not implying its W. It would be more accurate to characterize his “some time wandering” as “strung-up-on-booze-and-coke-from-ages-26-to-40″.

  54. Posted by Ramblin' Wreck | February 5, 2008 at 5:35 PM

    @5:21
Ok, then why not make Health Savings Accounts a reality? That way, money for my medical care stays with me, instead of depending on where I work. Hell, even making health insurance more like car insurance would be better than the way it is now.
I’m not claiming that the system we have now is great, just that it is much closer to free market than government run health care, which I really think would be an abominable thing to see. Whenever government starts getting involved, costs always go up while quality always goes down. That’s the nature of red tape my friend…maybe its about time you found out how it works.

  60. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 5:48 PM

actually Ramblin, there are proposals to reform the system in a market oriented way so that individuals can acquire health care coverage the way your employer does on your behalf: by joining big pools to spread the risk. That said, the issues are complex and we’re not gonna solve them here. I hope though that we can agree that you’re very satisfied only because your employer is providing you with a good plan at a low cost. That is not the case though with the majority of Americans, which is why healthcare reform is a big concern for them. Its also a concern for business in general, since such costs hinder the ability of US firms to compete globally. Ask GM and Ford what they think.

  61. Posted by duh | February 5, 2008 at 5:51 PM

Come on. Abe Lincoln. And W spent very little time in the IL legislature.

  62. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 5:52 PM

    Ron Paul supports:
    1. Ron Paul would make all medical expenses tax deductible.
    2. Ron Paul would eliminate federal regulations that discourage small businesses from providing coverage.
    3. Ron Paul would give doctors the freedom to collectively negotiate with insurance companies and drive down the cost of medical care.
Ron Paul advocates many many more improvements
    http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/health-care/
And that is why I pray for America and that a Ron Paul victory will bring us back to the Constitution

  63. Posted by Anal_yst | February 5, 2008 at 6:00 PM

    @ 5:52
    re: #3
How would this reduce the cost of health care? Dr’s have been getting jewed (and I can say that) by hmo’s and insurance companies who don’t want to pay for a wide variety of procedures, and never want to pay full price.
A better idea would be to seriously curtail out of control medical malpractice suits, or really all frivalous tort in general, butt now I’m getting ahead of myself…

  64. Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2008 at 6:09 PM

not 5:52 here, but you should remember that doctor fees are a small part of the pie. There are big admin costs for maintaining the US system. One solution is a high deductible plan and lots more standardization on the admin side to drive down costs there. Oh, and with regard to drug costs, squeeze those marketing fees out of the equation, which is why pills in the US are a lot more costly than in the rest of the world. (Another reason is that R&D is disproportionaly allocated to the US market, which would also change if the environment was more competitive here). Next problem….

  65. Posted by Ron Paul 2008 | February 5, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Huckabee is great if you don’t believe in evolution and are really into evangelical Christianity and want to see it more of it in the government. His economic platform — the abolishment (literally) of the IRS and the imposition of a 23% sales tax — is from outer space. And I’m not mentioning what he does not know about foreign policy.

The real racists are candidates who allow not just racism, but unfunny racism (“fleet of foot” indeed) to be published regularly under their byline, and people who support that candidate.
    Next question.
