We Have Reason To Believe An Underground Railroad Is Being Built Between Bear Stearns and Think Equity

It might seem like we’re cynical, unfeeling assholes over here but I would just like to point out that we see the silver lining in every situation. For instance, tensions are running high at JPMorgan and Bear Stearns, and Jamie Dimon had to work on a holiday that he doesn’t actually celebrate, and thousands of people are going to be fired but there’s still money to be made.

Enter: the little pool we’ve had going on here since the whole BSC thing went down, regarding when the ‘r’ word would be dropped. I said before this week was up, Carney said May 16th. I won ten bucks today when “Huffington Post” blogger Jill Brooke wrote that Jamie Dimon “was able to financially rape Bear Stearns employees with a bargain basement bid sanctioned by the Treasury Department that wiped out years of deferred compensation.” The fact Carney’s annual take home is now in my pocket is pretty nice but it’s not the most exciting part. We didn’t even have money riding on this but were extremely pleased to see Brooke upping the ante and reporting that Dimon’s attempts to bar other banks from hiring away BSC employees who still have their jobs before the deal is completed is an act of “enslavement.” She seems to get a little confused, though, and later refers to the slaves as “refugees” but that’s a minor detail (which she should go back and edit). Anyway, take back the night rally tomorrow at 383 Madison. I’ve donated half of my winnings to paint and poster boards, the least you can do is come up with some good slogans.

Bear Stearns Employees Already Financially Raped, Now Possibly Enslaved [Huffington Post]

Break the silence
On Dimon's violence

No means No!

Enough already will ya?? Dimon is not at fault here. Lets call it what it is, BSC had horrible management. I used to work there, when Ace Greenberg would come out and do his magic tricks out on the trading floor. I got the hell out of there as fast as I could. Their culture was of a bunch of people who couldnt get jobs at any respectable Wall St firm. Buncha meatballs

bess, were u ever on the sopranos (hbo) as an anthropology teacher?

Posted by BSD, Mar 25, 2008 2:06PM

@1:57 - no, you're thinking of Lindsay (formerly) of Wallstrip.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 2:10PM

it was an english teacher.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 2:32PM

Lindsay Campbell was all that and a bag of potato chips.

Indenture servitude is the wave of the future and of the past. The folks at Chase are a little ahead. On the hand, Carney just making $10 a year, hmmm, is he already there?

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 2:49PM

That is why Carney has to go to Aoutheast Asia - $10 is enough for at least 2 diamond sevice??

One more point, are BSC slaves mad and smart enough to do some creative things to those that hurt them? I don't mean things that make JC and JD walk around with tons of bodyguards, I mean financial markets mischief. This is just a rhetorical question... Note that @1:56 doesn't think highly of the "meatballs" so perhaps nothing to see here.

Posted by zzz1357, Mar 25, 2008 3:05PM

I heard that 1 in 4 BSC employees are at risk. One in four.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:06PM

One in Four is One in Four more investors than got any money out of Bear's hedge funds hey?

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:10PM

Seriously, they only have themselves to blame. They got into areas that they shouldnt have, the people there were hard workers yes indeed, but it wasn't exactly a braintrust. Hedge Funds?? Mortgages?? Seriously, should have stuck to clearing and their brokerage business and they would have been a-ok. They had an image problem, wanted to be taken seriously with the likes of the blue-bloods. Just goes to show you, accept what you are and do the best you can, thats all you can do if you want to be a success.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:16PM

Seriously, most people are just regular people who didn't make the big bucks. People who have families to take care of. What a bunch of slugs you are. Just remember, what you wish for others, will come back at you.

I agree, my comments at 3:10 are pointed at the slime on the top floors, the Caynes and Schwartzs of the joint. The fact ole Jimmy is walking around with some major muscle these days should tell you he knows that people are lissed at him.

Don't you know that you are raped after you are enslaved.
As a former employee who endured the trials, tribulations and guilt throwing management 'round the time of the new building, and the bloodwork they enacted daily upon their employees, while maintaining low rewards and advancement, I hope the shareholders do revolt and make a significant mark on upper management, who's ego's remained beyond their real value.

don't you know that rape occurs AFTER the enslavement?

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:30PM

You need to get out more. The blue bloods have largely been replaced by geeks. The notion of Bear guidos vs. refined ivy educated crew guys everywhere else is purely romantic.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:31PM

@3:16
Seriously most people on this blog are not regular people. They are people who enjoy the notion that if you are on the Street and you want a friend get a dog.

Posted by a dead horse, Mar 25, 2008 3:55PM

Did you win $10 or 1 share of BSC?

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 3:56PM

I mean blue bloods as far as the more prestigious firms you knob, they always had an inferiority complex to the MS, GS and MErrills of the world. I was there, i lived it. Theres a reason Goldman mints money, at the very top of the firm they have the best talent on the street, no question about it. Nicky from Staten Island and Joey from Bay Ridge are at BSC. I lnow this as fact, I was there for 3 years

I only know the younger people at Bear and they are multi-ethnic and graduated from very good schools.

I'm hearing from the Bear people that it's more like one out of two hitting the door.

I agree with @ 3:31 pm that there's a lot of brutal attitudes on this log. But I don't take those attitudes too seriously because I think there is a lot of steam blown off caused by the demands of the workplace.

Posted by guest, Mar 25, 2008 4:22PM

@3:56 In case you haven't noticed, at the top of GS is Lloyd from Flatbush. You need to learn to assess people based on something more substantial than where they're from.

Posted by mrpink, Mar 25, 2008 4:45PM

I'm from Chicago, I worked at BSC (04-06).. Does that make me 'inferior'? a corn-fed fag? Guido-light? Capone?

Put a sock in it. I agree with 4:22
