Those of you seeking solace in the news that Jamie Dimon had to forgo his alleged Easter Sunday ritual of egg-dying and chocolate noshing are SOL: though the JPMorgan CEO played a rather convincing martyr when he told a fellow diner at San Pietro that he would be “working” over the holiday, there were two Jews he wasn’t able to fool. Jesus and myself. Jamie Dimon is Greek Orthodox. So while it might’ve seemed like a huge sacrifice to the untrained eye that the new of king Wall Street had to miss the big day in order to renegotiate the Bear deal and oversee the carpets being ripped up from Jimmy Cayne’s office, it wasn’t, ‘cause his Easter’s not ‘til April 27th. If he happens to be in the office on that day, which he probably will be, since it'll take months to write all those pink slips, then he'll get our sympathy. But not 'til then.

JP Morgan has come a long way from the days when they wouldn't let even let Jews and Catholics work there.
Now the place is run by a goddamn Greek? Pierpont is rolling over in his grave.

Yes, I made that rookie mistake with my Greek friend...who had family over during the holiday, but is not exactly celebrating Easter until we have some real Spring upon us.

I read somewhere that Jamie Dimon's father and Sandy Weill used to celebrate Passover together. Was this just being ecumenical on Mr. Dimon's part? Just because Jamie Dimon's family is from Greece doesn't mean he's Greek Orthodox.

@1:27 Agree. I doubt JD would have gotten as far as he did with Weill if he wasn't MOT.

he's definitely greek orthodox.

@1:32 thanks for setting the record straight on JD's orthodoxy (see what i did there?)

Things I learned about Jamie Dimon: The family name used to be Pappademetriou, until Theodore Dimon, Jamie Dimon's father, changed it. "Dimon" is an old English settler's name that shows up in New England genealogy books. Theodore Dimon, Jamie's father, was a stockbroker who gave his family a comfortable life in New York City. His three sons were educated in private schools. Jamie Dimon's mother's first name is Themis. Jamie Dimon has a fraternal male twin and another brother.
Theodore Dimon says his son Jamie is a Democrat, but Jamie Dimon has hedged his bets, raising money for Al Gore and George W. Bush, and that dynamic duo, Bush/Cheney. He was on the Giuliani exploratory committee, and has also supported Hillary Clinton's 2008 bid for the Presidency.
Jamie Dimon's big charitable interest seems to be fighting addiction and substance abuse. He also raises money for NYU Hospital.
Religious affiliation does not figure prominently in Jamie Dimon's public life. No religious charities are mentioned in the official biographies I was able to read.
