In an article that will no doubt annoy orthodox leftists who cannot stand when a member of the creative class defects from their camp, Mamet describes how he came to break with 'brain dead liberalism.'
"Aha," you will say, and you are right. I began reading not only the economics of Thomas Sowell (our greatest contemporary philosopher) but Milton Friedman, Paul Johnson, and Shelby Steele, and a host of conservative writers, and found that I agreed with them: a free-market understanding of the world meshes more perfectly with my experience than that idealistic vision I called liberalism.

If you're under 30 and a conservative you have no heart. If you're over 30 and a liberal, you have no brain . . .
Sorry I am going to miss the drinks tonight, especially since you'll be in my 'hood. But I tied one on last night and drinking to Spitzer's demise just ain't my thing. Get Kristen to make an appearance and then we're talking.

Spitzer was in great real estate baron (er Duke) company at the Emperor's club. Apparently Client #6 is the Duke of Westminster (who's family has owned mayfair for hundreds of years.) If Spitzer just hadn't been such a huge fucking dick head he would have been fine.

Sowell is awesome.

Sowell is an idiot. I thought so when I had him for Econ in '77, and I think so even more 40 some odd years later.
And Mamet must be an idiot as well.

Correction - some 30 odd years later. Still flustered from seeing that someone believes Sowell has half a brain.

This is just one more pin-hole in the ever deflating bubble of liberalism. It goes to show that for anyone who aligns himself with the truth of his experience, and with the reality of his own life, a free-market view of the world and a skeptical view of mankind is the only policy that makes any sense.
Liberalism is not just some airy-fairy harmless hippie bullsh*t, it is some seriously pernicious bullsh*t that destroys people in it's lust for power. It is a mental disorder that causes it's devotees to ascribe to every flavor of patently untrue and harmful pseudo-intellectual bullsh*t there is, from Fabian Socialism to Global Warming.
Libs need to look in the mirror and see just who it is that's responsible for: the drug culture; the destruction of the Black Family; the huge immigration mess; the welfare debacle; the increasing spread of infectious third-world diseases; AIDS; the ridiculous price of gasoline; the cultural suicide of Europe; on and on and on. A litany of evils can be directly traced to the policies of deluded liberals.
Mamet may be an idiot, but at least he smells what the libs have been shoveling.

Oh noes! Not David Mamet!
Well I was an "orthodox leftist" but now I see I have no choice but to embrace supply-side economics, the Iraq War, and the Sanctity of Marriage.
Who could have guessed that the author of such liberal faves as the anti-PC screed "Oleanna" and the widely quoted (by fans of the Alec Baldwin character) Glengarry Glen Ross could have such a road to Damascus moment?
I just hope next year's CPAC isn't sold out because of this.

the correct quote is "if you're not a communist by 20 you have no heart and if your not a capitalist by 30 you have no brain"
People love to butcher it to tailor their political beliefs.
Libertarianism is no more Republican than it is Democratic. It takes philosophies from both. Labeling it just for small government completely disregards the rationale of it.

Mamet’s rant is full of convoluted half truths, ignorance, and several outright lies — much like you would expect from the neocons.
