Portfolio Columnists Should Not Throw Stones

Muffie Benson-PerellaMuffie Benson-Perella (muffie AT dealbreaker.com) was an Associate in the Investment Banking Division of a “Bulge Bracket” bank. She holds a B.A. in French and Art from Vassar College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. She concentrated in Contemporary French Poetry at prep school where she was awarded the exclusive premiership of the school’s “French Club.” Today, Ms. Benson-Perella is the Founder and Managing Director of “Muffie on Markets” (http://www.muffmarkets.com), a deep dive into capital markets, finance and investment strategy. She is also the Founder and Managing Director of Muff Cap, LLC., an invitation only, private investment vehicle for non-existent, prestigious and accredited investors only, employing an actively managed, long-short strategy.

I really don't think Portfolio is being fair to Cody Willard.

dldl.jpgThe Fox Business host is mocked in the most condescending of tones by Jeff Bercovici, who given his appearance, should probably not be throwing stones. This is a pity, because he looks a little like Dan Loeb (Danny, I left messages, call me, ok?). Well, all right, Dan Loeb after a some really bad coke and wrong turn somewhere in New Jersey.

The world of finance is very image conscious. Cody understands this implicitly. His Samson-like tendrils are a statement. A strong and powerful message. "I am here," they silently protest. Financial media is even more image conscious than finance is. So it stands to reason that Cody would be particular about his hair.

Still, Cody, we might have to work on that tie.

It's not a good sign when Muffie's author bio is longer than the actual post.

I miss Carney.

This sucks. And if you are going make a joke out of New Jersey, at least say:

"... a wrong turn somewhere in Jersey City" instead.

These two look like "Harold & Kumar Go To Wall Street". Any chance these two spent their entire summer vacations as kiddies kissing butt in France? Inquiring minds just need to know, Muffie, and I'm betting you were their to watch the whole thing.

Isn't Harold a banker in the movie?

I am starting to <3 Muffie's posts more and more as the days go on.

Yeah. Why the fuck is her bio there in every post? What the fuck.

The only person who should post here is Bess. And maybe Carney, every once in a while.

Please get rid of Muffie and EP. Ugh.

Muffie is the MD of a fund for exclusive, "non-existant" people. I'm baffled by how dense some of you can be sometimes! Whether she is funny or not is up to debate, I concede - but hey, this one was actually half-funny for a change!

It is testament to DB that it has such die-hard readers that they will read every post even if they hate the writer or know it is going to be stupid. Really, they should be very proud. Every time you get a comment that says "this was a stupid post" or "i hate you" those are the best readers, they love DB so much (or are otherwise just so bored) they will click on every page you have!

I wonder though about the policy of antagonizing them. Muffie, for example, who while she used to be witty and embraced by all, has now been redesigned almost exclusively to annoy the DB faithful by embracing everything that annoys you, e.g. Tim Sykes, Cody Willard, etc.
