Citi Finding Innovative Ways To Further Demoralize Employees

Citigroup, fighting to keep its title as one of Wall Street’s most innovative investment banks when it comes to demoralizing employees, has begun charging lower-level employees to use the investment bank's box seats at sporting events, the Wall Street Journal’s David Enrich is reporting. Top executives, of course, still get to enjoy the perk gratis.

Does anyone know how much Citi charges for box seats? Are they offered at cost? Or does Citi at least offer some kind of discount to those beleaguered junior bankers who have somehow survived the 30,000 deep cuts off Citi has already made or is planning to make? Also, does buying the seats automatically move you toward the bottom 5% of the bank that chief executive Vikram Pandit has promised to fire every year? After all, if you have time to seat in the box seats, you obviously aren’t working hard enough.

It started off as 75% discount on face value but once they realized that junior bankers actually wanted these seats, they cut it to a 50% discount...

The price for 4 Texas Ranger baseball "season" box seats is $4,200.00 for seats behind home plate. That is all the Rangers would pay my firm to get us to go even though we demanded $10,000.00 to have to attend to Ranger home games. We'll at least get to see one good team I suppose.

A very large enterprise can become too large not to fail. This one is exhibiting all the signs of immobility in the face of needing rapid change, but that is to be expected because of its size, its culture and its bad financial shape it's in. It needs to split up, "unlock" its value.

In the meantime:

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

big r - it was incredible. I have so many thoughts. For one thing, I am eagerly salivating at the thought of a potential Chuck-Blair reunion to bring down Georgie. For another, the Spitzer / Tom Cruise / Zac Efron mentions were gold.

Oh, were you kidding? because I am so, so not.

If they fired another 10,000 citi-ites, there would be less de-moralized employees and ticket prices would drop - win/win.

@11:32, that was definitely my favorite line from yesterday as well. The best was that people actually took it seriously. I love DB

11:38 -- I'm totally setting up a cafepress account to sell t-shirts with that slogan. But I'm not so sure it was a joke. (even if it was half-heartedly intended as such)

@11:38, Im praying it was, I think people put stuff up like that to get a rise out of people. Put me in for one of those t-shirts though

Why were you guys not out celebrating cinco de drinko, is the real question here?

Apparently though, its not appropriate to show up @ work wearing the same clothes you had on the previous day, along with a sombrero and stick-on moustache.

Who'da thunk it?

Posted by girl, May 06, 2008 3:58PM

hah the scary thing is I can envision that on you Anal_yst.

Goss girl was indeed $ but did you guys miss the Tinsley Mortimer jab ("he's about as reliable as the Tinz after 3 martinis")? Awesome.

@anal_yst - was that a stick on moustache or a "dirty sanchez"? probably why you got the dirty looks.

and for the record, I heard bofa was charging their "associates" (euphamism for employees) to use the unwanted seats at sporting/concert events.

@ Cluzo/girl/etc

Unfortunately it was simply a stick-on (the oriental trading co kind, just to clarify)...although i've got some sort of "date" with one of the waitresses Friday (after another "date", whoops!)

...still hurting...tequila shots bad idea on monday...ughhhhh

23

Posted by girl, May 06, 2008 4:26PM

nice work booking the waitress as the later date, she's more likely to put out for the free meal...

hey cluzo

24

Posted by Investorcluzo, May 06, 2008 4:26PM

@anal_yst: well done. double booking dates (on a friday, no less) under the influence...I'll be watching the "community board" this weekend for an update. good luck!

25

Posted by Investorcluzo, May 06, 2008 4:29PM

@girl: right back at you! hope all is well. perhaps you could convince carney to set up another get together, it's been too long.

btw, @anal_yst I don't think the waitress really needs the free meal - just a couple of tequila shots (no need to set an artificially high bar).

26

Posted by girl, May 06, 2008 4:36PM

working on it cluzo, I'm thinking the theme should be "welcome back from the orient", your thoughts on venue? haha

27

Posted by Anal_yst, May 06, 2008 4:37PM

@ cluzo/girl

Girl "loves" tequilla per her own admission (and proceeded to explain the 'finer points' to me that she probably read on the back of a bottle).

Anyway, low default risk on that one is my point ha

28

Posted by girl, May 06, 2008 4:47PM

who me? Did I give you the "tequila is the only alcohol that's a stimulant not a depressant" line? hahah

anyway that's true by the way. Good fact to know.

@girl - I believe I have the appropr-iate venue:

@anal_yst - I love the way you break it down, let's just hope the agencies appropriately assessed the risk and don't pull a bear (downgrade to junk over night)...
