Protestors Foul Up Evening Commute

We hope you’re not planning on taking a car out of Manhattan tonight. Hundreds protestors objecting to the acquittal of police officers who shot and killed Sean Bell have launched their attempt to traffic mayhem today by blocking key commuting intersection, including entrances to the Brooklyn Bridge, the Holland Tunnel, the Queensborough Bridge and the Midtown Tunnel.

Cops have been arresting dozens of demonstrators in an effort to prevent the evening commute being disrupted but NY1’s coverage indicates that at there are far more protestors than the police can handle quickly.

Manhattanites shouldn’t get too smug. Traffic throughout Manhattan will quickly become snarled if the exits off the island are blocked for very long. Your safest bet is subways and trains. Or, better yet, get yourself into the local watering-hole and drink the commuting problems away.

stupid fucks

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 5:15PM

Can't motorists just run them over and do us all a favor?

Posted by Pro_Forma, May 07, 2008 5:17PM

"Stupid fucks" are people who protest things they don't understand (e.g., the protesters at Bear). These people are protesting based on their own beliefs and principals - so the only stupid fucks here would be folks like 5:12pm that are so quick to judge.

Heard Sharpton got arrested, which brought a smile to my face.

Brooklyn bridge eastbound looks pretty clear, manhattan bridge looks pretty slow though

About time somebody protested this travesty of justice.

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 5:26PM

I am a motorist, and as much as I sympathize with their cause, I develop a strong sense of anger while leaving this city (I only drive in on tuesdays, and it is agonizing). Therefore, I do not take any responsibility if someone wanders in front of my car and I resist the urge to slam on my brakes. Then again they may fail because I have been needing to replace my rotors for quite some time. Good luck protesters. I hope all of the working people that you piss off will feel for your cause after annoying the hell out of them.

fuck it, im going to join them and protest untill this travesty of justice has been righted, or gumbel to gumbel is back on the air.

@ Pro_Forma

You're statement contradicts itself (or something); you're on one hand presuming "these people" are protesting based on their own "beliefs & principals" regardless of their understanding of the situation (or disregarding altogether whether or not they do/do not understand it).

Besides, most people who march to Sharpton's Race-Card throwing propoganda probably haven't taken alot of time to ponder the facts at hand.

@5:22pm

Yeah but it sucks if you wanted to take a cab anywhere. Did they have to do several locations? One wouldn't have been enough?

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 5:30PM

Sharpton is a crook

Posted by Pro_Forma, May 07, 2008 5:44PM

@ Anal_yst

I was merely making the point that someone protesting based on their own disagreement with the court's verdict shouldn't label them as a stupid fuck. Whether they have a clue as to why they disagree with the verdict, however, could label them as such.

Sharpton has lost any credibility he ever had - the man is to the left what Pat Robertson is to the right. Of course, as a moderate, I can't stand either of them.

Any of this have anything to do with Bartiromo not showing for work at CNBC? I love her consistency. Last nite she says see ya tomorrow...good nite. and not. This is why I wear out my remote ..... she is getting to be a real pain. FOX....AND BLOOMBERG bring you the real stuff.

Posted by GinNTonic, May 07, 2008 5:48PM

Beautiful strategy. Let's get supporters by pissing them off. I thought you usually get supporters by giving away cookies or brownies.

I wonder if our parents sat around bitching about Vietnam protestors ruining their commute....Sissies.

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 5:50PM

I hope the human garbage that is the NYPD loses more officers to their peace keeping then they would have if the three detectives were simply put to death.

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 5:52PM

@ 5:50 Doubt that will happen but wouldn't mind if those officers took out some of the uppity folk

Posted by Pro_Forma, May 07, 2008 5:57PM

Sounds like there may be more delays coming. How fanfuckingtastic:

"We're trying to tie up the city on a moderate way," Sharpton said. "This is not the shutdown."

The protests were peaceful. Sharpton says the "pray-ins" are part of many planned for the coming weeks, unless something changes in the case. "

Posted by Anal_yst, May 07, 2008 6:08PM

Fair enough Pro_forma. I love how Sharpton takes otherwise-nonsensical garbage, to paraphrase that quote "we're f&cking everyone over in the nicest of ways" and pretends, like the pathological liar he is, that he's "helping" (or something)...what a MF'er if there ever was one (disclosure: i'm not a flaming republican - as with you, moderate/libertarian)

Posted by guest, May 07, 2008 6:25PM

There is an honest left, and then there is Sharpton. How could something change in the case? The officers were acquitted after trial. I suppose the case could be brought up again in Federal court as a civil rights prosecution, but that's not too likely with a Bush-appointed U.S. Attorney. But I suppose that's the outcome Sharpton's angling for. Just because it will never happen, Sharpton can keep the pot boiling. He's a reptile.

that street thug got what he deserved

blast 'em all NYPD!

by the way, I heard Muffie was the stripper giving Bell a lapdance on that final night. Muffie - you dirty whore!

Posted by guest, May 08, 2008 1:02AM

the beauty of working past midnight every night is you never get caught in traffic jams....

Posted by guest, May 08, 2008 1:16AM

"That street thug got what he deserved."

I don't think Sean Bell was on trial in Queens.

Also, I doubt the NYPD has a desire to "blast 'em all." Who would "them" be? Of the three officers involved, two were black.

Posted by guest, May 08, 2008 7:45AM

@1:16 "Them" would refer back to the "Street thugs."

Posted by guest, May 08, 2008 8:18AM

This is domestic terrorism, pure and simple. Ship Sharpton off to Guantanamo. The knee jerk "cops are evil and racist" reaction is incredible. Did they notice that there were black cops involved?

Posted by guest, May 08, 2008 9:33AM

How is supporting Sharpton any different than supporting Obama: blind love based on race. The idea that blacks have been so abused that they should support any black persona, no matter what they stand for.
