Layoffs Watch '08: If You Fire An Accountant, Does He Not Continue To Lead A Life Of Quiet Desperation?

Apparently Deloitte is laying off somewhere between 150 and 200 1st and 2nd years. In other news, that seemingly crazy thing Mark Haines said earlier? Turns out it's true. It really is National Pigeon Day.

If that's ntionwide, it's a pretty insignificant figure (unless you're one of the 150 - 200).

But really? You're paying attention to Haines? Erin is looking fantastic! I haven't even been staring at her nose.

I still think Haines is Maria B's father.

How to tell an extroverted accountant from an introverted accountant: An introverted accountant looks at his/her shoes when talking to you. An extroverted accountant looks at your shoes while talking to you.

I have the inside track on a new government program that might be helpful to those of you who have been laid off recently. It goes by the acronym "IU", and it does not mean Indiana U. It has some sweet benefits, but it's not for everyone.

More on "IU" later (on this thread). Right now I'm trying to compose something for my friend "Androgyny" who 'rattled my cage' last nite at 6:30PM on the "Gasparino CFO Erin Callan..." thread.

As a D&T grunt, I can confirm that a decent number of first and second years were layed off in the North-East region.

@11:29 How could Haines have a daughter that's older than he is, idiot.

Update on "IU" from my 11:51AM post...

"IU" means "Individual Unemployability". I found out about it last fall. Went to check it out. I asked if "IU" meant "Individually Unemployable" as well. They laughed and said, "You need to have mental illness to qualify. Now go do something crazy and get certified. Then we can help you."

So I started posting on db.

Maybe I can use some of you clowns as references to help my case? What do you think? I'd be glad to refer some of you layoff victims to the "IU" program in return.

@big r...

"IU" is an actual Federal program. It's not a farce. Check it out for yourself. You're a smart guy.

@big r: I did return for a short time...got a really nice comment that I wanted to give a shout out to on the other thread. I was just trying to be polite...

My intention, on this steamy Friday evening, is to shotgun a few beers, and once it gets dark, go tip a few cows. Anyone game?

big r: TGFD and TOGFD are one and the same. If you read either of their comments for a period of time, you'll see the similarities. It's always the same stuff. Same Delaware boosterism, same anti-Wall Street rants, same phrasing, same typographical errors.

TGFD has pulled this act before about being not appreciated or hurt by comments and leaving the website unless reassured. For some reason, the game started under the TGFD identity and ended under the TOGFD identity.

On some days, like today, TGFD/TOGFD becomes more unglued than usual. It's gotten to be a little scary. This IU stuff TGFD got into today is really bizarre. He must be talking about social security disability for the mentally ill.

@12:48am, I read TGFD's IU posts. He did say IU's "not for everyone", didn't he? Don't get too spun up about it dude. I think it's funny, but I just woke up from a blackout.
