Thousands will be taking the CFA exams this Saturday. The other night we caught up with one of the test takers during a cocktail study-break. (Don’t worry, she brought her flash cards). One of the things she stressed was that each and every person taking the exam tomorrow plans to start getting drunk as soon as its over. We’re thinking that this would be an excellent thing for DealBreaker to cover. But we’re not sure where we should situate ourselves for maximum CFA drunk coverage. So, future financial analysts, where are you drinking on Saturday? Let us know here or text the tips line (973-495-0177).

Although at some shops the title Chartered Fund Accountant is probably more appropriate, given the profile of the typical candidate.

Rumor only: Carney going to the Fed window.

  6. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 4:00 PM

Im hearing Citadel is bidding .20 to the dollar on Carney

Carney makes Tim Sykes look cool.

This girl will be drinking where other CFA test takers are not.
Do you honestly want to spend your night hearing people discuss when you use the Dicky-Fuller test, IRP, or when to consolidate VIEs? Negative.

  11. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 4:20 PM

@fyi- are you honestly planning on discussing the test sat night?

  12. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 4:24 PM

It’s against the rules to discuss the test afterward for a reason – so you don’t harsh anyone’s mellow.

  13. Posted by MGR | June 4, 2008 at 4:26 PM

After taking the test in December, my buddies and I stopped at every bar/pub we saw on our walk home and had a shot or drink. Definitely better than all congregating at one bar in misery.

  14. Posted by HAM05 | June 4, 2008 at 4:26 PM

@4:00 – id hit that bid. a white, farnsworth bentley-like man servant is just what the doctor ordered.

  15. Posted by fyi | June 4, 2008 at 4:29 PM

I am not planning to discuss the test at all.
But where they congregate, the exam comes up. Last year, post-exam, someone told me he was looking for some M&A action and wanted to vertically integrate – that is what I would like to avoid at all costs.

  16. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 4:32 PM

there’s a large group headed to fiddlesticks after the exam

So you’re saying you’re not interested in showing me how to port your alpha?
    Crap

Me sure will be embarassing myself somewhere in public. Watch the local news.
Who is up for a little pregame from 12 to 2 pm? Carney, DB should sponsor intoxicating challenge.

  19. Posted by fyi | June 4, 2008 at 5:15 PM

@ Anal_yst: There will be no alpha production Saturday night. Only beta…leveraged through the use of excessive amounts of alcohol.

  20. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 5:16 PM

@3:57 Is there a large number of people making the jump from the Big 4 into finance or something?

    @ fyi
thats my favorite position, er, strategy too!

  23. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 7:17 PM

    @5:21
There’s certainly no shortage of Big 4 staff in the CFA program. Most are probably thinking it’s a way out of the doldrums of working for a Big 4..

  24. Posted by guest | June 4, 2008 at 9:08 PM

I’ll tell you where its not: Live Bait.

  25. Posted by Anal_yst | June 4, 2008 at 9:13 PM

ahahah live bait, awesome! Def on the list of shitty dives, like some of the favs down on wall street

  26. Posted by merkin capital partners | June 5, 2008 at 1:12 AM

they actually have the “official” after parties listed on the CFA website, complete with sponsors. See if your city has “society hosted event” underneath the test location. Oh my, it’s like Christmas morning.

  27. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 2:33 AM

mostly women take the CFAs. prolly heading to watch SATC after the exam. drunk.

  28. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 6:26 AM

    “mostly women take the CFAs.”
guess I’ve always been at the wrong test sites…

  29. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM

@2:33, I think you might be referring to the SEEFA designation (Shoe Economics Expert and Fashion Analyst).

Carney — wait to change “financial accountants” to “financial analysts”…dumbass.

  31. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 10:10 AM

@7:17 – Is it a viable path into banking? I am asking b/c I am trying to jump from a Big 4 firm into reorg/turnaround right now (I have a back ground in finance and accounting).

  32. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Chicago CFA takers are discussing it now … too stressed after Level II to do much of anything.
And hell no to the Big 4 idea, tons of undergrads trying to use it to ‘get into the biz’ but most of us have to for work.
oh and about the woman, as one … i think we were about 15% of the room tops … and most of those women were sorta scary looking.

  33. Posted by guest | June 5, 2008 at 2:38 PM

@11.07 AM – Way to alienate yourself against female CFA charterholders/ candidates – not all scary looking, dumbass. Many f-able ones indeed, and you’re an ass for perpetuating the urban legend about negative r2 on women’s looks and brains.
Also, there are indeed way more male test-takers than women in my experience – the women’s restroom line is always a mere fraction of the men’s.

“negative r2″… looks like you’ll be back in L1 again next year, sorry.

Try the Patriot at Church and Chambers. $2 PBRs and $2.50 well shots ensure that you’ll get good value for your money.

KFC is better preparation for Wall Street than CFA
Look at all the chimps who are CFA’s

  39. Posted by guest | June 7, 2008 at 12:17 PM

@10:15, you mean like Jimmy Cayne and Chuck Prince and all the other guys who lost their jobs and their shareholders’ billions–oh wait, those guys didn’t have it. And the shops that emphasize it are te ones cleaning up. Well, good luck being underqualified anyway.
Go to the Sheraton in midtown to cover it! That’s where are the L2 and L3 candidates will come streaming out after, and that part is almost as worth covering as the getting hammered after.
