It’s just like the Dems primary – you know the result, but have to go through the motions, so folks can get paid.

Lehman’s survival will depend on how much confidence the market can derive from its latest set of results.
We should find out in six hours time.
Clearly Lehman will fail.
Whether they fail in as big a way as Bear is the question.
They will shop themselves around, maybe find some buyers for some pieces of their business, I doubt if they will find a big name to take on the whole mess unless it is priced substantially below the market.
One way or another Lehman is on it’s way out. Sale, Merger, liquidation, bankruptcy whichever road they take, they all lead to the same place….. extinction.
I agree with 2:08 (mostly). I think what people aren’t realizing is the extent to which these banks are not generating business currently (and probably for the the forseeable future). They’ve posted huge losses already, but those merely reflect past mistakes and write-downs. People seem to be generally satisfied that business will be resuming at pre-loss levels, but I don’t believe that will be the case. I watch deals die every day, and these won’t be reflected on the books for months or years. I think it’s going to get way worse before it gets better . . .
But that’s just my 2 cents.
