Top first years, S&T: 60k, “plus a 20k increase in base.”
Update: another self-described “top” first year in S&T claims it’s more like 75K. I don’t know what to believe. If only someone signing checks from the inside could comment definitively below.

If you’re comping goldman to the rest of the street you might as well compare unicorns to leprechauns or schrute bucks to stanley nickels…

I guess at GS S&T not only is every child above average; they are all “top”.

THATS NOT TRUE BESS I AM A TOP FIRST YEAR AT GOLDMAN SACHS AND THEY GAVE ME $300 AND SOME SEAMLESSWEB COUPONS.

  6. Posted by Judson_Clark | July 31, 2008 at 12:51 PM

What is the exchange ratio of stanley nickels to schrute bucks?

  7. Posted by a dead horse | July 31, 2008 at 1:08 PM

    3 – how dare you.
1 Schrute Buck is worth only 5000 Stanley Nickels. 1 Goldman employee is worth at least 25,000 JPs, 47,000 Merrills or 163,824 Bears.

Oh well you want a lot of ###, for that we like to refer you to the homeland dept. in the interest of natl security these numbers may not be released publicly, ’cause that might cause riots!

  24. Posted by guest | July 31, 2008 at 4:06 PM

Bonus included a voucher for naked shorting on all banks except Goldman.

  25. Posted by guest | July 31, 2008 at 7:40 PM

I am a first-year IB analyst who just got his bonus. I just left to go back to my apartment (I live in FiDi) to work-out but I always get distracted by this site though it pisses me off that I can’t comment while at work especially since they track our useage. $75k is the new second-year base. This is probably above-market, as I think it used to be $70. My bonus was in the high $10k’s and I don’t think of myself as a high-performer, though maybe I’m modest!

  26. Posted by guest | July 31, 2008 at 7:59 PM

Are you at Goldman? Do you mean you got a bonus in the range of $70k to 90k? At first, I thought you meant a bonus in the $15k – $19k range and I thought that couldn’t be right. I’ve never heard anyone refer to money under $100k as being a multiple of $10k. Maybe it’s me.

  27. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 1:57 AM

#26, are you retarted? A bonus in the $15k to $19k range? What the hell firm would have tiers that low???? Or what department?

  28. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 9:13 AM

#27…I agree that would be insane. But I agree with #26…who refers to sub $100k’s as a multiple of $10k’s. Very confusing. 25, please clarify.

  29. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 10:06 AM

i would be suprised if 25 was at goldman. dude clearly doesn’t explain numbers and can barely write english.

  30. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 11:53 AM

When i plug ‘fidi’ into google maps it takes me to sudan, maybe the reference is to the outsourced pitchbook dept

  31. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 12:17 PM

if base is $55 or $60k for first-years, total comp could very well be $70-80k, implying a $15-25k bonus … what exactly do retarded first years do for even THAT much money?? fetch coffee and lunch for S&T professionals who are actually making money for the firm??
you people better wise up .. b/c you might be lucky to make $50k in a real job when the rest of this recession hits … that is, if you can find one
finance will shed thousands more jobs, so instead of whining about how puny bonuses are I’d start learning to keep my head down and work

@30, perhaps he means flatiron district though i don’t think i’ve ever seen or heard that abbreviation.

  34. Posted by guest | August 1, 2008 at 2:27 PM

no, geniuses, “FiDi” stands for Financial District.

  35. Posted by guest | August 4, 2008 at 9:44 PM

I am #25. My bonus was a little bit bigger than my base. The actual number is confidential and is specific to the individual so why the fuck would anyone write the actual number. You guys who don’t even know what “FiDi” means or think that an IB would actually pay an IB analyst a $10-20k bonus…wtf? I mean seriously, who is commenting here?

Funny – 2002-2003 bonuses were 15-20k for mid tier IB analysts and somehow everyone was happy to have a job. I can’t wait to see the discussion a year from now… Do I hear salary freeze?
