I actually met Greg Flemming when he came with a team to Colgate in Fall 2004 to recruit their new analyst class. One thing I was surprised to hear (based on his 30minute speech and my following 10minutes with him), is he's bridging the gap between Thain and Fink. It would seem more likely for Thain and Fink to be good friends than Flemming and Fink.

Regardless, very nice guy (what else can you really expect though).

I've met Flemming too, and the guy is a weasel. Great speechmaker, however very Napoleonic. He has little credibility with the employees and spends most of his time sucking up to whomever is in the CEO role.

At 4:17, Chuck G reaches for the cuffs, and his anxiety fuels the very center of my person with mistrust and sheer panic. I know we're only talking about shitty Merrill, but jesus fucking christ, C-dogg --- keep up on the come-up, and play a little poker with us! I got nervous this afternoon as the velo bind fell in distrust of whether it was sleeves up or sleeves down. This is not the time to play with my emotions.

@ #12 (I'm the #10 guy):
The weasel read may not be too far off. He made continual references to his position (at the time, co-head of investment banking) and how, along with co-head (Dom Kim sp?, they worked directly for Stan. Obvious inference being the famous "follow me to Merrill and I'll show you greatness..I work at the top and so can you" bit.

Good speech. And the team of 7 people he brought with him had impressive titles as well. I only had the chance to chat with one girl - someone over hiring/personell/etc (don't think it was HR) - and talk about a total nutjob with zero follow-through. Not to mention, she knew very, very little of IB (main topic of the speech) much less other Merrill departments, what positions they were trying to fill, what offices, etc.

I silently wondered months ago if Flemming would get the top spot. Now, it seems almost a question of what bank we'll see him at next. Regardless he'll have a position in sales. His quant skills are next to none, as are his truly management skills. Seems more relational, get in front of a crowd and wow them type.
