How To Tip Off DealBreaker: A User's Guide

dealbreakertipswhispersleakswallstreet.jpgOne of the great secrets of our success here at DealBreaker is our readers. We have the brightest, wittiest and best informed commenters on the web who help keep our recent comments page always fresh. And our tipsters--often people we have never met who reach out to us through email and phone calls--have helped us break stories and get the insider angle on stories where everyone else is simply re-writing the press release.

It seems not everyone knows how to get in touch with us. it couldn't be easier! You can email us at tips@dealbreaker.com or calls us at 212-334-1871 with your office gossip, bonus rumors, misbehaving banker snap shots, true-life stories of work gone bad, deal news, trading desk follies, market movements, promotions and firings, and whatever else happens to be on your mind

But if you are worried that the SEC might subpoena your emails, there are two more ways to send us tips. You can now contact us via instant messaging. Our AIM screenname is TheDealBreakers. But sometimes you need that extra-measure of security--or rather, to avoid those extra measures of security from the folks who might be monitoring your computer usage. So we also have a DealBreaker tips text message account. Send your text tips to 973-495-0177.

As always, you can rest assured that we will keep your identity confidential. Thanks!

You should consider creating an AIM WIMZI:

http://www.wimzi.com

It is a Flash widget that you can place on your site. When someone views a page that has a WIMZI on it, they can type directly in the widget to send IMs anonymously to your screen name.

Just a tip to fellow readers: Bess and John are far less cranky if you send your burning typo issues to them via the tip line. Every now and then, it might help them to know that there's an embarassing typo in a headline or they've misspelled the name of someone big enough to crush them like fleas.

And if Carney does not personally answer the number above (cause sometimes he is very busy and does not followup on calls), try 867-5309

Goldman needs to merge with Sachs to survive. Maybe they can merge using MAYO!

Don't any of you Goldman people have high-tech wireless devices you can use to send email from your personal accounts? Or are those also forbidden?

not to scare anyone, but the SEC does not look too kindly on rumor-mongering these days and text messages etc -- even if they are your personal property and not recorded by your firm -- can be subpoenaed by any number of regulatory agencies, including but not limited to the FBI, SEC, NASD, NYPD, CIA etc

you get the picture .. the only thing that does not leave a trail is an unrecorded phone call (and I suspect DB records) or a f2f meeting in a back alley (or bar, if it's Carney)

good luck
