Mrs. Layfield started making all those citi comments when she was afraid of getting canned (CIBC was thinking of shutting down Oppenheimer). It was a huge gamble on her part, not brilliance. She just had nothing to lose at that point.

Fortune is about on par with Business Week so far as power and respect goes, but it's pretty clear that Meredith is pandering just because she's so happy to do a photo shoot and live out her secret fantasy of being on America's Next Top Plus-Sized Model, whereas her husband, I imagine, is just portraying his WWE "persona", which appears to be an arrogant Beverly Hillbilly, with his comments.
Meredith's quip about not taking her husband's name though was clearly a retort to him calling her Mrs. Layfield.
#27 may be closer to the truth than everyone who thinks Whitney is brilliant. I'm holding my opinion until the financials start recovering to see if she's a no-trick pony who just made a gutsy call and is intend on sticking to it no matter what the markets say.
