Neither Ron Paul nor I find this assault on freedom humorous.

Don't forget to vote for Freedom this November

China, as a nation, has had one single focus for the past 10 years - the 2008 Olympics. They have built at breakneck speed, setting aside social problems, environmental problems and economic problems to achieve shared goal. Anyone watching the opening ceremonies had to detect an eerie similarity to the 1936 Berlin games where another totalitarian state, lead by a dictator, put on a fabulous spectacle in an effort to bring international legitimacy to a regime which had none. After the 1936 Olympics were over, the societal goals of Germany changed direction. The same will happen with China.

One look at the demographics of China would scare the hell out of most people. In some areas, there have 130 male babies born for each 100 women. Think about the implications of that. Without a shared goal to keep the nation's focus, individual regional interests will take greater importance. Environmental costs will begin to be a drain on their economy. Productivity of the average Chinese worker is around 5% of that of a typical American worker. Economic imbalances will have to be allowed to correct.

In short, allow China to have its day in the sun. The next 20 years will be much different for the Chinese people than the last 20 years. Soon, they will wish they had been dealt the same cards as Japan had been dealt in 1989.

1.2 billion people have essentially just had their high school prom. Now they have to deal with the realities of growing up.

Did they have the Greek flag there during the 2004 Olympics? I can't recall.

30

Never underestimate the power and durability of a collectivist, totalitarian franchise whose members are devoted to advancing a cultish, xenophobic sense of superiority and uniqueness.

Witness Goldman Sachs.

31

Posted by guest, Aug 21, 2008 11:39AM

If every person in China was armed with a bamboo stick and sent over to the U.S., we would be defeated in 3 days.

32

Posted by Finnegan, Aug 21, 2008 11:41AM

That flag should not be up there. However, their massive achievements over the past 20 years, rather exceed the "Olympic planning" of the past 10 years.

The 1.2 billion people over there are no just sitting around on their asses, and anyone paying close enough attention would see change happening on lots of fronts, including investment in various environmental technologies.

Let's not wonder who is still "at prom", when one nation has a huge national debt, and the other nation is sitting on trillions of reserves and financing our continued stupidity.

@ Girl

Eh..I don't know if this is representative of the DB community. Its a topic with no real substance, room for meaningful analysis, or humor value so it brings the dbags out of the woodwork to show off how clever they are when everyone else realizes there is nothing of value to add.

Except 30..that was money.
