The application of a bat wing. Hearing Pauly Shore telling you to get your life together. Having the last 18 months' losses amount to 25 percent of your profits for the last 36 years.

mark to market accounting of structured instruments is a fiction.

do you "apply" a bat wing or "thow" one? this confused me yesterday.

These figures aren't adjusted for inflation, so while an intriguing data point, not an entirely accurate measure of the extent of the crisis. Comparing losses in 2008 to book profits from 1972 is the type of analysis that is only used to sell newspapers.

@3-- it's not something that's thrown...maybe 'the creation of a batwing'?

5 Its thrown in the figurative rather than literal sense. Like throwing a glance or a kiss or a curve.

i think apply also works...like having a bat wing applied to your balls.

7 having a bat wing applied? Like someone else is gonna do this to you while you sit still and spread yr legs? Come on. Are we really that bored?

@8-- it wouldn't be like, hey we're bored, let me do this fun thing to you, I think it's supposed to hurt so someone would do it in retaliation for something. why would you do it to yourself?

9 Can see yr point. A little. Like someone is going to hold you down and do that? Sounds like you need two to hold and one to stretch.

I was thinking instead that its like mooning someone. Something you display to another person to gross them out.

lol. it's a game. Watch the movie "Waiting." It explains any questions you might have pertaining to the bat wing.

11 I'm not gonna get to the movie for awhile. In the mean time, splain to me do you do it to yourself (like mooning) or does someone do it to you (like torture).

Only 5 people on the planet know this, and I'm one of them.

Department of Defense code word for bat wing = 'water board'.

Look it up. Actually you can't.

@3 - Totally. Good question. A bat wing can only be hurled. Not thrown, not tossed (at least in one sense of the word), and not applied. It is most commonly hurled at a face, but not literally (though if this has been done please send the youtube video).

Bess - Totally good post, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could verify hurling. Another quick note: When aggitated, many females can be seen hurling chipmunk cheeks as well. Though painful, it is seen in some cultures as a sign of womanhood.

That's just about all the nonsense I can come up with on a Friday.

is MER book value 29? Wonder how revenues and marks will look this q?

@12 It is a game. You trap the others into seeing your sac - then call them a fag, and kick them 3 times.

The bat wing is a special sac formation. Another is the goat.

No, 2, I'm curious. How is mark-to-market accounting a fiction? As distinct from what other more realistic sort of accounting?

It seems to me that the chief alternatives, especially historical cost accounting would in most circumstances be a much better candidate for the fiction shelves.
