  5. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 10:45 AM

The British are coming! We know they’re just here to use our dentists. I always wondered why England didn’t have people trained in the dental arts.

  6. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 10:49 AM

    @3 no
Dick fuld would ‘crush’ the employees like he did the shorts

Bess, did mini-Kanye hit on you? Yo, gimme those digits girl!
Also, Bess you should’ve bought big white some Mikey D’s fries for putting him in the pic that is posted here to be mocked by all!

  10. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 10:56 AM

This pic is photoshopped, no? The deal hasn’t closed yet!

Oh, that’s a nice garish shade of blue. They’ll be selling discount hi-fi equipment at ground level before we ever get another public sighting of Dick Fuld.

  14. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:01 AM

I agree it looks cool but ouch shouldn’t they wait for the sting to subside?

  15. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:03 AM

    Too long. Didn’t read.

  16. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:04 AM

Excellent. Good to see a British bank lassoo a failed cowboy bank.
    Cucumber sandwich anyone?

  17. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Should have gone for Barclays Brothers when they had the chance

  18. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:07 AM

such displays of ostentatiousness are so [clenches teeth]….ostentatious.[unclenches teeth}. This is NOT your father's barclays [teeth conspicuously un-clenched].

  19. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:08 AM

    @ 16, sod off, swampy.
the cowboys have been kicking your prim, confused asses for two centuries.

  20. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:08 AM

@ 14 any legends about british manners are simply that.

  21. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Each morning everyone on the trading floor will be required to stand for God Save the Queen and all trading will be suspended at 2:30 for a spot of tea.

“The British are coming! We know they’re just here to use our dentists. I always wondered why England didn’t have people trained in the dental arts. ”
True story, friend of mine in a meeting with Edson Mitchell at DB in London about 10 Years ago. Edson trips, falls forward against doorway and chips his tooth. Yells to his assistant. Call my denstis in NY and then get me on the Concorde.

  23. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:14 AM

The dental benefits plan from HR is toast.

  24. Posted by blndebnker | September 23, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Seriously. That’s just mean. At least JPM waited a good two months before putting its name on 383 Madison.

  25. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:18 AM

    The Billboards should say
    LEHMAN BROTHERS 169% Pwned.

  26. Posted by blndebnker | September 23, 2008 at 11:21 AM

Okay off topic but can someone explain the “pwned” thing to me? How did that start?

  27. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:26 AM

looks stupid with the map and lehman brothers name above it

  28. Posted by GinNTonic | September 23, 2008 at 11:32 AM

Either the greatest photoshop job in the world or the British are just of d*cks

  29. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:32 AM

24 Nice thing about electronic signs, is that you can get some geek to change em in five minutes. At 383 Mad you had to line up expensive union labor to scrape off the Bear and reapply JPM. Thats prob why it took a few mos.

  30. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:34 AM

It should say, George W Bush Rules!
    HAHAHAHAHA

  31. Posted by blndebnker | September 23, 2008 at 11:35 AM

@29 – Yeah I don’t think that’s quite it. There def was a big push at JPM to “spare the feelings” of the Bear employees. Everyone was walking on eggshells.

  32. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:36 AM

31 I guess now no one cares because there are very few places for people to walk, if they decide to leave.

  33. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:39 AM

I think there’s at least 50 more banks and 500 hedge funds that will go down from here. After that I believe we’re done with this bubble, should take about 2 years.

  34. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:42 AM

    Jolly good, mate!

  35. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:44 AM

funny thing is, this building was originally designed for JP Morgan for JP Morgan.

  36. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:45 AM

    @21
A little Johnny Rotten and Co. in the A.M. with some Earl Grey in the P.M. never hurt anyone.

  37. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 11:46 AM

Have you guys seen Barclays Tier 1 ratio? If things get any worse out there, they’re going to be changing the signs on the front again.

  38. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:16 PM

@37, you’re right, Im sure Diamond went into this all willy nilly. He paid nothing for it, it was a brilliant move.
I for one will definitely be stopping in for a vegamite sandwich and a pint. Seves you right Dick Fuld, karma is comin your way my man.

  39. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:17 PM

@35 you mean morgan stanley, retard.

  40. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:37 PM

Hmm these comments don’t exactly explode the myth that the Americans are an insular people. I wonder what you’ll be like when the yellow people come?

  41. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:41 PM

    @40
I said light starch! Light starch means light starch!

  42. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Brits are stupid turds. Heard there’s some jobs at JP Marlin….paying in Zimbabwe dollars so you don’t get screwed.

  43. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 12:56 PM

    @ 40
go fuck your leftist, anti-American, ignorant, spineless, mealy mouthed self.
When you address an American, you’d best acknowledge who fucking blessings your enjoying.

  44. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM

If they really thought the sign through they should have had the words ‘lehman brothers’ burst into flames and have the barclays logo emerge like a phoenix from the ashes. Buff. Maybe I’ll go into marketing. *shudder*

  45. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 1:13 PM

Word is that Barclays is honoring all summer offers from Lehman. Bob Diamond made the announcement yesterday on a company-wide town hall meeting conference call. For everyone w/ offers don’t fall for the gun-to-head strategy that Citi and others are trying to pull. F’em.

Mate is an aussie term. Chapr or bloke would be English.

  50. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 2:05 PM

    @49:
    nope.

    nope.

  52. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 2:21 PM

BarCap isnt really as British as you guys make it out. Diamond & Del Messier are Americans, Ricci, the COO now in as acting CEO of old LB is an American.

  53. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 4:33 PM

    @45…Nope

  54. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 5:15 PM

@52 of course Barcap is British – the fact Bob Diamond is American is of little consequence.
Following your oddball logic I suppose California is Austrian??!!

  55. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 5:19 PM

I find the anti-British sentiment displayed above particularly ridiculous, especially as Barclays are safeguarding 10,000 American jobs!
Perhaps @42, @43 would rather the Chinese had it?
    Thought not.

  56. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 5:30 PM

God, this is getting confusing. Diamond, Dimon.

  57. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 7:20 PM

geez..could have got someone to take down the Lehmen Brothers sign, makes the place look cheap

  58. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 7:42 PM

My point is that entire leadership of Bar Cap is overwhelmingly american. If Cali had a governor and an enitre cabinet from austria, that would make it fairly austrian.
Also the whole point of Bar Cap from 97 on was to create an American style organization and culture in what had been a dusty brit bank

  59. Posted by guest | September 23, 2008 at 8:51 PM

@54 : Nearly everyone in the US office of Barclays Capital is American.

Where are the pics of 745 from this morning?
Was going to save them for posterity, but the latest one that replaced them sucks.
