Rumors are circulating that the Fed might be considering an emergency 50 bps rate cut. We are skeptical because any cut the day after the meeting would be admitting that they were, what's the word, totally fucking wrong yesterday. However, with the shit hitting the fan today, it has to have at least crossed the Beard's mind once.

Rates aren't the problem. They know this. 0% chance. Take down.

A thick condiment made primarily from vegetable oil and egg yolks. Whitish-yellow in color, it is a stable emulsion formed from the oil and the yolks and is generally flavored with mustard, lemon juice or vinegar and salt.

Five years from now the Dow will be under 13,000. US = Japan

Alas as mentioned before the Fed can cut prime to 0 (shades of Japan) and it's only going to marginally affect the LIBOR. That death-spiral is as much geo-political, cultural and 'cya' as anything else [i.e. the BBA and EU in general isnt looking to follow in our footsteps but rather avoid stepping in the same $hit we're soiling ourselves with].

It's about time for the Dems to stop sucking it, and make the Bush tax cuts permanent, though being an election year, they are loathe to actually want to see the economy do well.
Posted by guest , Sep 17, 2008 1:06PM
All the shit hitting the fan in the last 10 days will start to appear in economic numbers 2-3 months from now. Falling rates, falling dollar, higher oil, higher inflation and then what? Raise interest rates?
Fed: Do you want to be the wife or the husband in this relationship?
U.S. Consumer: The husband.
Fed: Then get on your knees and suck your wifes dick.

Since it looks like the US dollar is toast, where would you guys reccommend moving to?
I thinking a stable govt. with low taxes, cheap prices, warm weather, hot girls, good food and plently of alcohol.

@26 If you are looking at Belize and Costa Rica you might as well go to Nicaragua. (believe it or not they have a reasonably stable government, and the prices are noticably cheaper than B&C)
The other issue ofcourse with any of these island like sanctuairies is boredom ['Tina and 'Nam have vibrant nightlifes]. After awhile even women and alcohol and become boring<--strike that and forget everything I said.

39 was absent the day they explained "supply side economics."
which explains his presense (ostensibly, at least) on Wall Street.
Posted by guest , Sep 17, 2008 1:42PM
What's the best state to live in if you are downsizing -- i.e. I am ditching Wall Street and trying to live off my invesments (aprox. net worth $1.25MM)? I am 36, single and ready to mingle. I am looking at a state with low housing prices, low taxes, low crime rate, liberal gun laws, nice scenery, above average median income, well educated population, near a major city. I was thinking New Hampshire. Yea or nay?
Posted by guest , Sep 17, 2008 1:50PM
New Hampshire? Who are you, Vito Spatafore?
Posted by guest , Sep 17, 2008 1:53PM
You are going to try to live off the income from $1.25 million? Even in New Hampshire, you will be eating cat food and hitching rides to the supermarket.

banks fund assets at LIBOR, not fed funds
LIBOR is often manipulated b/c it's a survey not based on transactions (artificially low)
