Lehman: Heavy Call Volume

The phones at Lehman Brothers must be ringing off the hook. Callers to their offices this afternoon were greeted with a recorded message which said,”You have reached the offices of Lehman Brothers. Due to heavy call volume you may receive delays longer than usual. Please hold for the next available operator.”

Heavy call volume?
Oh, Lehman. We love you guys. Keep your chins up.

    Trick headline.

all those MDs making calls to loved ones before they swan dive (like lehman stock) into times square….

  3. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:20 PM

@2: You’re a scumbag. I can’t believe you would make any such references of “calls to loved ones before they swan dive” a day after 9/11. I know this board is meant for humor-but you crossed the line. NOT FUNNY.

  4. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:22 PM

    @ 1 bigtime. Put volume.
    @2,3: newbies have no soul.

  18. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:37 PM

Clearly the swan dive reference was a tasteless 9/11 joke, and not a reference to jumpers during bank failures of the 1920′s.
Oh, and clearly the Time Square reference was also a 9/11 joke, seeing as how the twin towers were located there and all.

  19. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Sarah Palin is not fit to be mayor of Wasilla.

  20. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:39 PM

  23. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:45 PM

@ 21, you’d better sit down: Jimmy Carter used that word long before it was considered a mark of stupidity.
He claimed to have been a “nucular engineer” on a submarine or some such heroic nonsense.

  28. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:50 PM

But there was heavy call volume in the Oct 4′s and even the 7.5′s.

  29. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:50 PM

27 But seriously. I can understand how a person could support McCain. But with Palin as part of the equation? No way – don’t even consider that within the realm of the possible. Unless you’re someone like her: basically a dumb hillbilly, or whatever the Alaskan equivalent of that is.

  30. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Wasn’t Mordy supposed to do a post about Wharton today!? I want my shabat shalom

  31. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:51 PM

“Due to heavy call volume you may receive delays longer than usual.”
This sentence is bogus because of the improper use of “Due to”.
“Because of” would be proper in the sentence.
Had LEH wanted to use “due to”, they should have said, “The longer-than-usual delay you may receive is due to heavy call volume.”
No wonder LEH is in the shitter.
I’m surprised that none of you clowns picked up on this.
    The Guy from Delaware

  32. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 4:52 PM

Do you really want to elect a quitter like that?

  41. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 5:02 PM

    The dumocrats say:
“Jesus was a community organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor.”
Governor? So was Reagan, and Carter, and Clinton, and George W, and FDR, and even Dukakis. Sarah Palin is a governor. So what?
One thing’s for damn sure… obama? He sure as hell is no Jesus.

More importantly with that upswept hairdo circa 1955, and jutting (backwoods)jawline do we put her into incontrovertable MILF category or merely I’d stick $50′s on her after one too many scotch realm?

    @#76…
I think that Biden was told by the dumocrats to say “Hillary is a better candidate than I am.” Just to test the public’s reaction, that is.
obama is desperate. If he thinks that throwing Biden over the side and replacing him with Hillary will reverse obama’s downward slide, he’ll do it.
I really don’t think that Hillary would accept a VP slot behind that loser obama. She might, but I think she’d angle for the top job instead with the loser obama as VP.
obama’s name on the ticket will make it a loser in November. A Hillary/Biden ticket might have a chance, but that’s really a long shot. What about the legalities of that one? Anybody know?
Any change that the dums make now will be viewed as a further sign of their weakness, of their stupidity, and of their willingness to do absolutely anything just to win. Fuck the Country. Just win.

  124. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 6:24 PM

@106 — you are an idiot as your leap to conclusions proves. Sort of hard for a chick to be sexist.
And as for Palin-Stein being the most qualified, get your head out of your ass.
I am neither pro-Obama nor anti-McCain. At this point, more “reluctantly Obama”). Had McSame chosen a QUALIFIED republican woman (and there are many … Carly Farina, Condoleeza, among others), I might have been persuaded to vote for the old coot, because, if statistics prove accurate, he will not be serving his full term.
Palin-Stein’s interview with Gibson is just the beginning of her end. When people (and women) begin to understand what she stands for (if she ever answers a damn question and doesn’t give a canned answer) they will not vote for her.
Likable? Sure. But this isn’t about her likability or adding her to your carpool or inviting her to your fricking book club. Add her to your FaceBook if you are looking for a new friend.
This is a person who could very likely end up inheriting the presidency and we would be DOOMED!
Not only does she not have a grasp on the issues (hello, Bush Doctrine), her judgement is suspect. What parent would put her family in the spotlight knowing a teen-agers’ pregnancy could not stay concealed … and then have the audacity to claim that is private.
Let me tell you … she sure won’t protect the privacy and choices of women in this country, and people better wake up to that. The woman is the worst kind of overly ambitious hypocrite — and I say this as another woman!!!

    @#121-#123…
You are f’n “braindead”. So is LEH.
Joe Biden used that expression a lot too, even after he had his brain anyeurism clipped. He almost was braindead. Wouldn’t that have been ironic. I told him at the time to stop using that word, that he was tempting fate. Asshole that he is, he kept replaying that “braindead” thing.
    DOOMED@#126…
    “I am neither pro-Obama nor anti-McCain.”
Really? Your message certainly sounds anti-McCain/Palin.
That idiot Charles Gibson who interviewed Palin is the one with no grasp on the Bush Doctrine. Palin exposed him.
BTW, “Pro-Choice” also means making the choice to have a child, even having one with downs syndrome. It doesn’t just mean “abortion-on-demand” only.
You may as well just put on the curly orange wig, the oversized shoes and the big red nose ball because you already are a clown. Stop trying to impersonate a rational, thinking, intelligent person. Give up. Go with the clown garb. You’ll feel much better about yourself afterwards.

Actually the President can’t repeal Roe vs Wade so even if the republicans get elected they have to wait till some judge dies and then appoint one, that may or may not repeal it either – someone has to bring a case.
what they can do is keep imposing abstinence teachings in schools. They can make laws that make it ok for pharmacists not to give out morning after pills etc.
The problem is both parties candidate’s suck. Obama is sincere — about Obama being president. He’s encroached in victim politics and his tax plan robs from the rich and gives to the poor – his “tax decreases” really are taking money from people who make it and actually sending checks to people who don’t.
But MCCain sucks too. Career Politician with an unfashionable wife who thinks she’s fashionable but who looks terrible in every fancy outfit I’ve seen her in. His main claim to fame is something that he did 30 years ago. Starting to have senior moments and picks an “empty dress” for his VP yes, she’s charming but non=educated – degree in journalism and went to 5 or 6 colleges to get it. Folksy and dumb like the great midwest.
We’re in a heap of trouble folks, and we have no one good to be the leader of our country.

    Making a mockery of 9/11
Republicans have tried to make 9/11 their own personal day of mourning and political commemoration. But 9/11/2008 could well be remembered as a low point in GOP history. It’s the day we learned beyond any doubt that John McCain put his manhood in a blind trust to win the presidency. By most reports he wanted to pick Joe Lieberman as his running mate, but Karl Rove and James Dobson told him he couldn’t. So he chose someone who is unprepared to be president, who could well put the country at risk were she ever called to assume the presidency.
The fact that Sarah Palin sat for her humiliating interview with ABC’s Charles Gibson on 9/11 is one of those strange serendipitous events that makes one believe there’s order in the universe. Remember how 9/11 changed everything, especially our new seriousness about the larger world and foreign policy? Never again would we risk a president, maybe not even a Senate candidate, without global experience and sophistication.
What a mockery Palin made of all that. I’ll get criticized as sexist for saying this, but I would say the same thing about a man who sounded this ignorant: Talking to Charles Gibson tonight, Palin sometimes reminded me of poor Miss South Carolina, who, asked why many Americans can’t find the U.S. on a map, famously said: “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps. And I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere, like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children.”
This statement from Palin about Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is better, but not hugely: “I believe that under the leadership of Ahmadinejad, nucular weapons in the hands of his government are extremely dangerous to everyone on this globe, yes. We have got to make sure these weapons of mass destruction, that nucular weapons are not given to those hands of Ahmadinejad, not that he would use them, but that he would allow terrorists to be able to use them. So we have got to put the pressure on Iran.”
Alex Koppelman immediately caught the biggest gaffe of the interview: Palin’s deer-in-the-headlights ignorance about the “Bush doctrine” that claims for the U.S. the right to unilateral, “preventive” war against nations perceived as fomenting threats against us. Her answer committing us to defend Georgia or the Ukraine against Russia was almost as bad, and the way she spelled out what NATO membership means, by rote, you could see the quickly crammed index cards in the back of her brain. She put Israel in charge of our Iran policy. John McCain should be ashamed of himself. Ashamed, on 9/11, to have picked someone as ignorant and unready to be president as Sarah Palin.
People who like that sort of thing are going to like Palin’s interview, a lot. Apparently, there is a constituency of people who want their president to be just like them, who want him or her to be someone they can have a beer with, to be just as clueless and uninformed as they are. But I believe that’s a small constituency. I believe that most Americans, most independents, and serious, patriotic conservatives, are going to see this interview and be very, very afraid. Her combative act didn’t really work on Gibson; neither did familiarly peppering her sentences with “Charlie.” Charlie did not seem charmed.
I think some liberals owe Charles Gibson an apology; he asked decent questions and followed up well; he really couldn’t hide some natural human surprise at how poorly prepared — though well-coached — Palin seemed to be. But in fact, it’s good luck that liberals savaged Gibson for his treatment of Obama in the Democratic debate last February. It will insulate him a bit from GOP attempts to shoot the messenger, which are inevitable.

@128 (aka TGFD) — what an idiotic stupid fuck you are.
Pro-Choice is NOT a euphemism for Pro-Abortion and I’d dare say many people who are pro-choice are simply acknowledging an option should there personal circumstances dictate.
For you to take that out of context is as ridiculous as Palin claiming she is a foreign policy expert “because Alaska neighbors Russia”.
For what it’s worth, @126 is not dissimilar from other people who have come to the sad realization that in a great country such as ours, these are the two pathetic choice we are left with. I know a TON of people that are reluctantly-Obama and would probably have voted Republican if not for the past 8 years.
Given the likelihood that McCain will not live out his term (and look up the statistics on that before you open your pie-hole), it is IMPERATIVE that he made a strong choice for his Veep, which he clearly did not.
Not considering a succession plan was nothing short of selfish and arrogant.
And btw, Gibson outed Palin on the Bush Doctrine, not the other way around … but since you probably don’t get much Bush, that’s understandable that would be over your head (hee! no pun intended)

  143. Posted by guest | September 12, 2008 at 11:45 PM

    @ 129 & 131 your comments are fantastic.
I respect John McCain. He would have made a good president in 2000 (much better than bush). However timing determines a lot in this life and his time has expired. He is not the right man for the job at hand. We need a president who first and foremost understand the economy. Second we need someone who understands foreign affairs which also ties into an energy policy which ties into the economy. McCain is not that man not this time. Heck a couple of monthes ago he was put on the spot about the diffenece between Shi’a and Sunni and he had to consult Joe Lieberman for the answer (do you think Sarah Palin knows the difference?).
It doesn’t mean that i think Obama is the man. I believe he could use more experience. But i have more confidence in his ability to grasp would is going on with the economy, the world and the USA’s place in in it.
As for Sarah Palin she is a confident strong woman. She has little knowledge about the economy and foreign policy. I may want to have a drink with her but i do not want her a heartbeat away from the presidency.
I do not undestand why the president/VP has to be someone we want at our dinner table. I want them to be smarter than me, better than me. I want someone who aspires to elitism. Why is it that at this time in this country anything beyond mediocrity is considered either suspect or just plain bed?
As for TGFD, in many post he has proved himself to be an ignorant bigot. His comments about Obama are further evidence of his ignorance. He used to be mildly amusing now he is just sad.

You need some happiness in your life. Take my earlier suggestion, and try the clown garb. You’ll feel better too. Less hostility; less stress; less angst.
BTW, sorry about your bush. Too bad no one wants to visit it.
    @#137…
Regardless of who wrote #131, my thoughts about it in my #134 & #135 posts are still the same…garbage. BTW, only a “TOTAL DOUCHE” idiot would post a link and then proceed to post the article too. Talk about TMI. I have no interest in Salon Magazine either. obama can wipe his ass with it for all I care.
obama is in a nose dive. Nothing you clowns say or do, and nothing the sycophants in the media say or do either will make any difference. All the attacks on Palin are backfiring in spades. Keep it up.
A recent poll showed that more than 60% of the public think that the leftist goons in the media are carrying obama’s water in a sickeningly obvious way. @#136…Who the f’k do you think the public believes? Charles Gibson or Sarah Palin? What you and Salon think and how you choose to mince words are of no consequence.
    Fuck obama.

    standard GOP message:
    “I am a delcious toolbag…
    Vote McCain/Palin”
Seriously, if we elect this woesome toesome just because some peeps want to get a bit more of their bonus, then you know what? We totally deserve what comes after. When McCain croaks it, and Palin renames the USMC the Moose Brigade it ur fault, when they rename Science class, Jesus class, ur fault, when we’ll have high school junior’s briefing the President so she can come up with an Iran policy, ur fault.
That’s what it comes down to. Cause if unless you are really religious (in which case, fair enough), then pretty much the only reason you “Vote McCain/Palin” is because you are selfish and cynical. That’s why when challenged, all the douches on this message board invariable invoke a violent tone. The cognitive dissonance created by the two ideas “I am supposedly a good and reasonable person” and “McCain/Palin is the most dishonest, cynical and shallow campaigns run in modern presidential history” causes them to get very upset and lash out.
The idea of Palin running the country terrifies them too, they are just too insecure in their political choice to admit it.

  146. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 9:23 AM

    @17
Recall that Palin is running for VP, not Pres, yet she’s way more qualified to be Pres than the two main men of the opposition.
It’s all about the available choices.
I am sorry that you are a self-described “delicious toolbag”.
Voting McCain/Palin may help you change your self-image!

Palin is a joke. Anyone who has common sense can see her choice as vp was a marketing ploy by the republicans. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?????
The job of a President is to put right people in right places and Obama seems to have a decent mix. Quick example, I’ll take Buffet and Volcker as economic advisors over anybody else in this country, especially such stars as Whittman and Fiona.

I but will exercise my put option if you fools put McCain/Palin in the White House. Asia or Europe here I come. Enjoy the continuing slide of the US $ and rampant inflation. History books will point to 2008 as the year that we pass the baton to the Chinese as dominant world superpower. We will fade into the background where we can bitch and moan about what could have been (e.g. France).

The US is going down blazing with mccain/palin. Anyone who thinks palin is qualified is an idiot. If Mccain/Palin wins there are going to be riots and rightly so…instead of choosing a qualified woman Mccain chose a demographic – now uneducated, religious suburban/rural white women are going to decide the next president/vp and we are all screwed….oh the yokels who think Palin is hot (WTF?)

Both McCain and Palin have as strong a record of achievement and commitment to this country as it gets.
I cannot believe that you just can’t see this.
“There will be riots”? You must be black if this is your perspective, and I respect your position.
However, there are 12% of blacks in this country, and 50% of women. Don’t you think a woman should become President first?

Great, the new criterion for presidency: drug abuse. Now that’s a real change. Not.
No Wall-St firm tolerates drug abuse. Not one. If you do drugs, you must soon be out the door and on the street, applying for welfare.
I, like most of my colleagues, build a business. Because of people like you, I have to pay taxes that go straight into your useless veins via welfare.

@151, you obviously have never served in any military capacity at all b/c if you had the first thing you would know is that EVERYONE talks.
Rule one of interogation survival is to give the people ripping out your finger nails etc just enough information so that they just don’t shoot you outright. Thats why they dont give every fighter jock detailed “how it works instructions” b/c if caputered and interogated they will talk.
feel free to attack McBush’s reccord etc but like his policies or not the guy is a hero (I just dont want him as Pres).
    warm regards,
    I Heart Obama

ooh I was thinking #183 was stodgy and a senior till I noted his brilliant and topical use of “NOT”.
Bah humbug, no sex or drugs ever..now if only I can do something about the rock and the roll music these rascally kids are listening to.
As for the glass comment I think the original poster was mentioning giving a sip of a drink at a bar [which in NYC is $14+] so I doubt the cost of being able to afford glasses comes into the equation.

    @186
So what, three guys walk into a bar and… oh, they share the same Martini.
    Really classy.
go back to Pakistan with all your drugs, and leave this country free to continue living a normal life.

  186. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 12:43 PM

@187 This is the OP of the drink question.
You have never given a sip of a drink to a girlfriend/significant other (or shared a taste of food for that matter)?
And what is the fixation with Pakistan?

P.S. If you are being sarcastic or a troll then kudos.

I blame Carney for the downward spiral of this Wall Street tabloid. Him or his bosses wanted to politicize it to get more traffic. Back in the Spring when EP came over to fill in for Carney she tried to politicize this joint also. Many gave her a hard time and so she essentially came back to on-topic posts most of the time. And I really enjoyed EP when she stuck to matters where she has lots of experience.
But with politics you attract a lot of garbage because nobody wants to talk or hear about the issues or about facts. Like this guy:
    http://www.youtube.co/watch?v=IH0xzsogzAk
There are plenty of political blogs in the web to suit every persuasion. I hope the idiots that want to bring it here just go there where they’ll find their own echo chamber.

I hope all this b/s will come to an end on november 5th at the latest!

@177: Excellent way of expressing McCain’s choice which I have not seen anywhere. He did in fact choose a demographic, and that is precisely the problem. There were many, many, other competent choices if he wanted a woman on the ticket (and very well may have swayed my vote).
@179: You must be one of the same morons here that always posts “First!”. As a child, I bet you called “shotgun” also. Let me share a little something with you. It isn’t about electing a woman before a black person or whatever garbage you spewed. It’s about electing the properly balanced ticket (and I say ticket, because should the President (god forbid) not make it through his term, we are stuck with the VP they have chosen). Trying to keep impartial here, but people should be voting on the ISSUES, not the gender, race or demographic.
And last (and in this case, definitely LEAST), our little TROLL, TGFD …
Familiar with coulrophobia? Your obsession with clowns is more than a little creepy … I’d advise people to keep their kids away from you in church and in the park.
I thought if we all ignored you, you’d go away, but no such luck. You are nothing but an ignorant prick and your leap to conclusions about the gender, intelligence, etc. of the posters who you have disagreed with you is laughable (particularly since I happen to know several of them personally). If you only knew who you were dealing with …
Dude … they are baiting you. Some of them are men, and it is hilarious watching you implode to the point of monitoring the site. I can just see the veins in your neck popping while you type. Get a life, or at very least, find another site to spew your rot.

@189: I completely concur and hate that I am wasting a moment of my life chiming in at all …
Carney: it would be great if DB provided options for readers to block posters they want to ignore (other sites have this)

  191. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 3:04 PM

TGFD will henceforth be known as “Bozo”

  192. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 4:22 PM

And the Bozo at 193 will henceforth be known as TGFD

  193. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 4:27 PM

TGFD is back in the building. I had to set up the croquet court for tomorrow afternoon’s party, so I was away for awhile. It’s good to see that you clowns missed me.
    TROLL@#191…What a post.
“If you only knew who you were dealing with …”
If you mentioned them all by name, it would make no difference to me. You just assume they’re so important that I would recognize them. You shouldn’t overestimate your own significance. News Flash for you: Hardly anyone in the entire country outside of Wall St would recognige the names Schwartzman, Peterson, Dimon, Cayne, Pandit, Thain, et.al. Names you think are so famous. Hahaha. Yet, these pompous DB clowns I’m “dealing with” think they are so noteworthy. They are chicken shits who can’t even give themselves monikers; only the amorphous “guest” identifies them.
You creeps wanted “sex & crazy”, and I’ve given you some.
Quit whining like sissies about Bess & Mr. Carney allowing political comments on DB. It is the season, you know. Ignoring what is all around you further exposes your isolated nature. The world doesn’t revolve around you and Wall St.
AS I’ve explained before on DB, my frequent use of the word “clown” to identify a clown goes back to the 1988 movie “Runaway Train” with John Voight and Eric Roberts. Voight used the pejoritive “clown” frequently when addressing Roberts. Damn good movie. Takes place in Alaska (a state currently in vogue). Watch it; you’ll not regret the 2 hours spent doing so.
Lastly, “implode” & “veins in my neck popping” do not describe me at all. I’m actually quite relaxed. I enjoy DB. Getting you turds spun up is particularly gratifying.
BTW, want some more sex to go along with crazy? I have a few recent encounters worth a tell.
    The Guy from Delaware
p.s. I still haven’t called that guy from Mr. Blankfein’s inner circle. You know, the guy I met on vacation in August. A 6-month gig as a VP at GS might be good diversion for me. What do you think?

  194. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 4:33 PM

    @195
Why do you think it’s Carney and not his bosses?

  195. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 10:43 PM
  196. Posted by guest | September 13, 2008 at 11:09 PM

    @198 fuck off

  197. Posted by guest | September 14, 2008 at 2:32 AM

@196 — the only time anyone regrets spending is reading your posts.
You are in serious need of professional help.

  198. Posted by guest | September 14, 2008 at 1:14 PM

Does anyone reading this board make money, or are they too busy spouting badly written and embarassing political views which would better belong on Yahoo, the Fox News message board, or “Angry Trailer Trash of America”
Sheesh, last time I waste time here again. Good luck, y’all!
