Last week, after probably being told by advisers that he had to come out with something big to make everyone forget about the fact that he said the economy was "sound," John McCain called for the firing of SEC chairman Christopher Cox. Yesterday, he announced his pick for replacement.

and if moz isn't available, what about hitler?
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 9:12AM
you can't fire the SEC chairman...
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 9:12AM
hehe, he used the words "Cuomo" and "prestige" in the same sentence!
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 9:12AM
you can't fire the SEC chairman...
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 9:14AM
@2/4...ding ding ding.
mccain = senile old bag
Posted by diablo , Sep 22, 2008 9:19AM
Scary dude.
I'm sure his replacement candidate didn't know about this, neither did EP.

How can anyone vote for this guy?
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 9:37AM
#7 you have to vote for him because Obama is a jackass-his comment about Cuomo is troubling though. If you wanted to single out one person who was most responsible for the subprime mess then Andrew Cuomo during his stint at HUD would be the guy
Posted by NotNasser , Sep 22, 2008 10:08AM
Heck, why not make Elliott Spit-or-swallows the next SEC chairman?
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:22AM
8 Cuomo most responsible for the sub prime mess? Go back to Staten Island.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:23AM
#8 They're both jackasses, but only one of the two jackasses wants to give over his economic policy to Phil "I failed the third, seventh and ninth grade" Gramm and Andrew Cuomo. If McCain wins, it's not like he didn't give the world fair warning.

@2/4- So true and its something that has been completely ignored. How does anyone vote for a president who doesn't even know what the powers and limitations of his job are? I am pretty sure that if I were running for president (or any job for that matter) I would know what the job requirements entailed before applying for it. Fuckin moron.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:27AM
@2 and 4, yes you can. The President can appoint a new chairman as he sees fit. Cox would still be a commissioner, but not the chair.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:31AM
12, you might consider actually learning the rules (see 13).
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:43AM
#9 you are an idiot- Cuomo pushed to change the Fannie and Freddie charters while at HUD which reulted in them buying more risky assets. i guess they don't teach critical thinking at community colleges
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:49AM
#15 I'm assuming you're referring to #10, not #9. That must be some school you attended that didn't even teach integers. Go to Google. Type "number line." That might be a good place for you to start...
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:56AM
McCain is such a fucking jackass.
"When I'm president, if I want someone to resign, they resign!"
Someone get grandpa some Metamucil, he's grumpy again.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 10:59AM
I know you are but what am I
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 11:16AM
#16 Tony- sorry the back office gig didn't work out. you can always try running numbers on Mulberry street
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 11:42AM
Hey assholes. STFU with the name calling. McCain is a senile who knows nothing. You want him to helm the country? Get a clue. Obama 08. There's only one choice.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 11:50AM
#20 Senile is an adjective not a noun. If you are going to use "helm" as a transitive verb then at least take the time to learn what it means. no wonder you like Obambi

Heard Palin's not coming to NY. Just as well, she'd prob get lost, never having been here before.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 11:58AM
21 Surprised a Palin supported knows what a transitive verb is. Know a recipe for meth as well?
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 12:10PM
21 Your support for two complete fools as your leaders speaks volume of your own intellect.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 12:27PM
23 and 24- yes i see you points- a do nothing Senate lifer who had a D average at the University of Delaware and a Harvard educated lawyer who hangs out with terrorists and sounds like a Black panther are better choices. Thanks for clearing that up
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 12:31PM
25 When you started with "do nothing Senate lifer", I truly thought yours was an anti-McCain post. Funny that. Oh nd the "hangs out with terrorists" thing: whered you get that? Hannity?
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 12:35PM
@26, Ouch. That bitch got served.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 12:54PM
"hangs out with terrorists and sounds like a Black panther"
ha. riiiiiiiiiight.
Everyone keep saying Obama is a jackass. Can someone please back it up? saying it over and over again doesnt make it true.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 1:32PM
Don't vote for either of these douchebags. Vote Independent.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 1:39PM
#29, I agree...
Ron Paul (sorta independent) or bust.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 2:07PM
Don't blame the Democrats for this mess. Clinton left you with a budget surplus and real income growth. You can thank Bush/Cheney/Gramm/Rove/McCain/Paulson and co. for this mess.
Oh yeah, and you Republican voters for supporting them. You were warned time and again about this, and I'm not taking shit for your stupidity.
Posted by guest , Sep 22, 2008 2:12PM
McCain's call for the resignation of Cox was purely political and makes no sense coming from the presedential nominee. Cox was on McCain's list for a potential VP nomination. McCain voted for Cox when he was nominated to the job. McCain supports the deregulatory philosophy of the current SEC.
Clearly it was a political ploy to get him back into the public's eyesight after the recent economic turbulence caused him to slide in the polls.

#15,
I'm the idiot who wrote post #9 and I don't see how your response to me responds at all. Except for the gratuitous playgroundish insult.
So all I can really say is: I'm rubber and you're glue.
Posted by guest , Sep 24, 2008 3:44PM
Ahhh I guess Grampa McCain can't chew gum and walk at the same time too.
