Problem Solved?

McCain’s said he’ll debate tonight according to CNBC, so we’re guessing yes. ‘Cause what kind of dick would say he won’t debate ’til we fix this thing AND THEN GO BACK ON HIS WORD?

Because on a Friday night, after a nightmarish week, all I really want to do is watch two blumbering, pandering, idiot politicians run their mouths about garbled nonsense.
    Right.

Changing the subject here, but has anyone been reading clusterstock? Is anyone else sick of Blodget saying, “do it like the swedes, do it like the swedes” when it comes to the bailout plan? (As in the gov’t taking equity stakes in the troubled companies.) I swear every other post mentions it. I love Carney, but NOT reading anymore of Blodget’s so-called posts.

    From McCain’s official statement:
“The difference between Barack Obama and John McCain was apparent during the White House meeting yesterday where Barack Obama’s priority was political posturing in his opening monologue defending the package as it stands. John McCain listened to all sides so he could help focus the debate on finding a bipartisan resolution that is in the interest of taxpayers and homeowners. ”
Translation: Barack Obama said was involved in the meeting. John McCain fell asleep.
    But the best part:
“Senator McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations.”
What?! So when there was a concensus, he flies in and throws a monkey wrench, but when talks collapse, there’s been significant progress? What color is the fucking sky in his world? The reason he sat and did nothing in the meeting yesterday was probably because this statement was already written, and they were going to act like McCain was doing something other than keeping his seat warm and pretend like he had something to do with nonexistant progress.

    @ 9 agreed.
Love Carney. But can’t help but wonder if he regrets decsion to leave DB at this point. Maybe more money but visabilty to date is horrible.
JC’s post have been average at best this week. Blodget seems to have maintained a very strong hand over what is getting posted. Not sure if it is the right forum for JC’s strengths.
The comment section is simply awful. 5,6, 7 comments per story mostly by people who don’t have a clue about finance.
So far not so good. Will give it another week .

  16. Posted by mj | September 26, 2008 at 11:54 AM

@15, McCain fires off contradictory statements too fast for an aide on the other end of the radio to keep up. But what do you want to bet Palin wears her hair down over her ears next Thu?

  26. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 12:32 PM

I see that with Carney moving on, this blog is taking a hard turn left to become a Gawker-like leftist political outlet.
Relevance of that, other than (to the usual stuff reported here) was zero. Another outlet in the pocket for Obama. Why dont you just put a banner declaring support for him right up front?
Btw, it was a sweet (though cynical) move. This debate was supposed to be about foreign policy, Obama’s weak point. McCain has not really needed any prep, but Obama has been holed up in FL preparing for the debate (I think they refused his teleprompter request for the debate). McCain simply took Obama out of his foxhole for the final couple of days right before the debate. This has to have messed up his prep, AND for once forced his to actually attend to his primary job of being a Senator – instead of running for president, something that he has been doing since the say he was elected!

  27. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 12:37 PM

oh shut up 27. everyone thinks mccain is an asshole for this move. you don’t have to be a “leftist political outlet” to think that. even carney wrote something on clusterstock making fun of mccain for it yesterday, you douche bag.

  29. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 12:44 PM

    @ 27 – idiot.
For the last week most of the regulars on this site have bitched equally about how awful the predidentail/VP candidates have been. To reiterate they have BOTH been worse than horrific.
However McCains little stunt, right down to lying to Letterman, means as of right now he is WORSE than Obama.
This is not about left leaning or right leaning – this is about the what passes for leadership.

    Can we write-in Mitt?

  31. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 12:58 PM

Look back on the McCain/Palin bashing over the past few weeks. And then look at this specific post. Please try to prove its relevance to the overall theme of things usually posted here.
Seriously. This totally fits in Gawker. They write about anything. I dont quite see how it fits here.
I have spoken with a lot of ‘free market’ types over the past few days (all wall streeters) who are all for a tax-payer funded bailout now ‘for the greater stability of the market.’ These are the same ones who till a few month back were all about no government intervention.
However, there are a lot of folks out there who still do not support such an outright government takeover of the market and dictatorial powers to the treasury secretary. The Dems of course love it. It is their dream come true. However, the opposition from some Republicans is less of a stunt and more of what many of their supporters believe, that such a large and unrestricted ‘bailout’ is uncalled for and downright wrong.
So fine. McCain is ‘pandering’ to those folks who refuse to support a government bailout. Doesn’t Obama pander to all unions, oppose any testing in schools, pander on alternate days to coal/wind/solar/ethanol lobbies etc? For once, people who actually believe in not wasting tax-payer money are being ‘pandered’ to. Is that why everyone is so riled up?

  32. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:00 PM

@32 you are a dumbass. you can’t tell how it fits here? are you retarded? what do you think mccain said he wouldn’t debate over?

  33. Posted by Phobos | September 26, 2008 at 1:17 PM

Are we really worried about the socialists? Really?
Have more faith in yourselves then that.
Yes, this is a bailout (to a degree) — and some firms (read: all involved, most probably) will have to give up some portion of ownership. Is it fair? Not entirely — the US Gov is buying obligations marked way below future potential: They’re probably going to make a killing, so why double down? I regress.
Has it ever been the case that the government successfully intervened in WallSt affairs without the implicit “okay” from the houses? Ever? You don’t think that at some point, when WallSt is secure enough (again) they’re going to move out of this?
    Get over it.

#10. You are so mesmerized and so drinking the kool aid you can’t see the forest for the trees.
Obama just wants to be president. McCain has lived and breathed government service and is way more presidential.
The constituents have inundated their representative with messages saying “if you vote for the bailout bill, we will vote you out” and they mean it. There have been demonstrations all over the country. The bail out is in your interest but it may not be in the country’s interest and Americans see this. So did John McCain.
But you keep drinking your kool aid and when you get your wish, the “i told you so” won’t be pretty as this guy, Obama, the more research you do on him, is bad news.

    IT’s all Obama’s fault. He’s a big jerk.
I’m glad to support a Party than never panders!
Oh well, I’m off now to hear my candidate rail against gay marriage, flag burning and abortion.

  40. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:29 PM

I’m only reading and occasionally posting here for a short time.
However, I would ask the powers that be if it is worth losing your readership and posteship by taking a completely one sided stance on the presidential election?
    If it is, go ahead.

  41. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:33 PM

You’ll always have Fox “News” #41. And Rush and Sean.

  42. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:33 PM

I’ll tell you what kind of dick …
The same kind of dick that would exclaim that the “economy is fundamentally sound” only to turn around within 10 days and suspend a presidential campaign and request the debate be postponed.
McCain’s desperate antics served him well, showcasing his impatient, impulsive, erratic, and irresponsible nature and only brought more attention to his already questionable judgment (Are you reading this, Sarah?) and his inability to lead this country in a time of crisis.
McCain is truly unprepared to be president. One would expect such a “tested hero” to behave in a more controlled, dignified and composed manner and I am truly horrified and embarrassed by his actions this week.
Dude, there are no “do-overs” when you are president and in a campaign, aren’t allowed to make up the rules as you go along (“oh … I think the debate is a waste of my time right now).
His appearance at tonight’s debate is only another desperate tactic and a futile attempt to save face.
    God help us.

  43. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:39 PM

Actually, I abhor Rush and Sean and don’t trust fox news one bit.
This was/is a good site for the Wall Street insider stuff that no one else is smart enough or savvy enough to dig up.
Bu going over to politics, which, trust me, has now infiltrated every nice blog and site, you are joining the “group” instead of being your own independent site. I enjoyed coming her cause I did not have to read the democratic and repulbican troll garbage. Now, I’m seeing all of it again.

  44. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:43 PM

    no. 43…
You have jsut beautifully spouted the Democratic Talking Points for today. You should be proud, except, I have read those same talking points on my travels this morning on at least four other sites. All of them normally non political.
I guess you are doing a good job of carpet posting everywhere, not just on the political sites. But, you are frustrating readers like myself who do not expect to find this crap, both republican and democratic on the sites where we are seeking real information.

  45. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:46 PM

@41 – let me tell you something about this site, it mocks everything and everybody on an hourly basis.
We, the regular commentators prefer Bess and EP to take these stances. Because it give us the oppurtunity to argue, based on the facts as we beleive them, for our particular positions. It also makes us realize that sometimes our positions should NOT BE set is stone. Their are many regular commentators who are republicans and many or who democrats. Almost all have called out their candidates in the past two weeks for teir horrific show.
If you are offended by what you believe is there stance on the presidential candidates than go to another blog – quickly.
This site is not for the politically correct.
Keep up the great work BESS and EP!

  46. Posted by guest | September 26, 2008 at 1:46 PM

@45 … last I checked, Dealbreaker was not a dedicated political site.
Perhaps this isn’t the site for you.
    Good day.

  49. Posted by diablo | September 26, 2008 at 2:03 PM

It’s been a while since Wall Street and politics have converged (or clashed) so outrageously that a Wall Street tabloid can’t ignore it. We are enjoying it for what is worth. Right now even if you go to a political blog, Wall Street is quite prominent in the discussion.
McCain’s stunt, however, is one for the record books. Wall Street is not amused.

#50 said – “McCain’s stunt, however, is one for the record books. Wall Street is not amused.”
Why am I not surprised? When their own ass (and not the miscellaneous factory workers’) is on the line, they are rushing headlong into the arms of anyone who is ready to bail them out with taxpayer money. Funnily enough, over dinner with some friends last night I still heard outrage over how the government should have no say on pay and that it is a retarded idea (though the bailout is a great idea!!)
All of a sudden, the champions of free markets and free enterprise and unlimited comp in private enterprise are all for total government intervention and arguing about how the bailout is important for ‘greater good.’ These, btw, are the same folks who think that bailing out Detroit is retarded.
I am one of the few who still believes in TRUE free enterprise. Yes, McCain is pandering. For a change, SOME politician is pandering to the people who think that government bailout are wrong! Yes, Wall Street can curse him for all they like. But there is a massive movement outside which is against the bailout. Of course, you will not see it in socialist New York. But it is out there.

Full disclosure: I’m an adviser to John McCain’s campaign, though as far as I know, the senator has never taken one word of my advice. He’s been sounding a little pessimistic on the economy of late, too. And to be fair, he isn’t immune to the Depression-exaggeration virus, either.
