Since you are businessmen and ladies, you surely know that even when every institution in the world is falling off a cliff, there’s still money to be made. If you’re not into buying put options or credit default swaps, might we suggest putting your powers of prognostication (and rumor-spreading abilities) to use? Round up your friends and foes and fill out the September Madness bracket that’s been going around all morning (whoever created it: bravo, though Barclays prefers to be spelled with out a ‘k.’) Those participating in the DB pool are competing for the chance to win dinner with Dick Fuld.

    “Barklays” beat LEH. Man, even the dog from Sesame Street fared better than poor LEH.

    hmmm…AIG played chicken with the Fed and the Fed blinked…wouldn’t not failing or merging be considered being a winner?

    I can’t figure out if I want to laugh or cry. But I am in.

    My final four is B of A, The Federal Reserve, JP Morgan and the Queen. The Federal Reserve with point guard Ben “The Beard” will take the Queen of England in the finals by 6 pts.
    Where is Treasury? The Bald was a sporty guy in college. Dexia, Hypo, Fortis could also fill in some byes.
    How about a losers bracket. It could be filled by all the monolines and other firms that are not long for this economy. Allied Captial, going down hard.

    this bracket sucks its missing teams. Dark Horse money is on Cargill, by basing their trading platform around instruments on things people actually need to consume and by staying private, I think they’re the dark horse candidate to take over the financial system. Think that’s idiotic? Lehman started as a cotton importer/exporter or something ole’ timie in Mississippi. Lazard a dry good wholesaler, in fact name one bank that didn’t start a dried goods wholesaler?
    History doesn’t repeat, it rhymes, Minesota is the new North Carolina, you heard it here first. .

    Is this the concilation bracket?

  16. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 1:17 PM

    wells fargo needs to be in the 2nd round if they got a bye.

  17. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 1:21 PM

    #13 cont. I just found out that the finals will be played at Wembley Stadium, which means its a home game for the Queen. Making my bet with the other punters and backing old Beth. God save the Queen.

  18. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 1:33 PM

    remind me why wells fargo got a “bye”?

  19. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 1:53 PM

    Goldman = Duke.
    Paulson = Vitale.

  20. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 2:28 PM

    If Goldman is Duke we’re all doomed… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEZgpJ9TfjE
    I foresee a surprise attack by Marc Cubin.

  21. Posted by guest | September 30, 2008 at 2:30 PM

    Need I remind you what happened in last year’s tourney? If Goldman is Duke we’re screwed.
    I’m thinking a surprise attack by Marc Cubin.
