As you know, today’s Waxman Witch Trial on the Hill pertains to those ratings agencies in the business of taking a few years off to chill and then returning to fuck the globe. Here’s what Egan-Jones’ Sean Egan had to say in his opening remarks/defense: “At Egan-Jones, we downgraded Enron months before our competitors.”

    Egan Jones gets paid by its subscribers who want their analysis. All the others get paid by the companies they rate. ‘Nuff said.

    Wanna fix the problem? Prohibit the Agencies from receiving fees from issuers/underwriters and go back to the subscription model. If they keep sucking, they won’t have any subscribers. Problem, meet solution.
