Sign Of The Times

You know capitalism is in decline when the University of Chicago quibbles over naming an institute for Milton Friedman. You know there is some journalistic pandering going on when that story is resurrected from the grave it settled into months ago.

Milton Friedman made important contributions to economics and our understanding of the world. Which is more then I can say of any Po-mo nonsense.

This is why I tell my alma mater to go pound sand during fund raising events.

@2 better policy is just to give money to the econ dept. Or if you're feeling really vindictive, the business school. Of course, I say this like I have money to give.

@2 & 3, both of you are ungrateful pricks. Just because the poor Sociology & Anthro majors, and the other former members of the Spartacus Youth League, are pissed off that Milton is getting a building named after him doesn't mean you shouldn't donate. I mean, the very contributions Milton made are the reason he is getting a building, no?

@4 I'm an ingrate but too much of a peon to be a prick. I say give money, but to areas with some value-creation, like econ, instead of to dumping it in the laps of the administration so that they can plant more tulip beds that they'll rip up two weeks later. Of course that means the school won't give as much money to the department, but you do what you can.

@4 I'd rather donate my (hypothetical) money to Accion. Better karmic ROI. I think Friedman would approve.

And all you dolts THAT is the part of U Chicago that Obama identifies with - the anti-Friedman wing, of which Bill Ayers is no doubt an honorable member.

I am sick and tired of folks trying to draw some tenuous links to the one part of Chicago that they are aware of, forgetting that the rest of the school is no different from any typical left wing univ in this country.

@7 Wouldn't Obama identify with... the law school? Those guys are the home of Coase and Posner. Why draw tenuous links between the lawyers and the typically left-wing parts of any university?

7 Look, its this simple: as soon as McCain added airhead Palin to the ticket he lost all hope for being taken seriously. There is no choice but BO. End of story.

Why wouldn't you just donate to the Fiji house? Winkelreid and Byron Trott came out of it. . .

Fuck Fiji. Hayden Schlossberg came out of ADPhi so I donate there. By far the best ROI for me

Yea, but then how are us Fijis going to afford rohypnol? Do you have any idea of its street value today? We might as well just stop raping. Well, who am I kidding. . . we can't stop!

Wising I wasn't in NYC
