We mentioned earlier that for some reason, the Don’t You Care About Golden Retrievers With Leukemia Act had this on page 300:
woodenarrows.JPG
Out of four parts shock and 2 parts laziness, we stopped reading then and there but revisited it just now and were delighted to see the absurdity goes on:

EXEMPTION FOR CERTAIN WOODEN ARROW SHAFTS.–Subparagraph (A) shall not apply to any shaft consisting of all natural wood with no laminations or artificial means of enhancing the spine of such shaft (whether sold separately or incorporated as a part of a finished or unfinished product) of a type used in the manufacture of any arrow which after its assembly (i) measures 5/16 of an inch or less in diameter and (ii) is not suitable for use with a bow described in paragraph (1)(A). The amendments made by this section shall apply to shafts first sold after the date of enactment of this Act.

We’ve got C-span on in anticipation of tonight’s vote (9:30!) and would at this time would like to put the under/over at 7 (taking the over) members of the Senate losing it over 5/16 of an inch not being an acceptable shaft diameter, and demanding his/her colleagues to block this bill.

This whole think really FUCKING SUCKS.

7/16ths is really the industry standard. That’s not going to make much of a difference.

  8. Posted by guest | October 1, 2008 at 3:17 PM

    BL,
what kind of shaft do you prefer?

  9. Posted by Anal_yst | October 1, 2008 at 3:25 PM

Wait, the arrow industry (undoubtably manufactured in part overseas) hasn’t switched over to metric?

  10. Posted by guest | October 1, 2008 at 3:27 PM

Stag went metric but Rose City archery is keeping it traditional.

This is awesome! You can go on a bender and your job must pay for mental health treatment and counseling (think rehab in Maui) for your coke and booze habit, maybe hookers too if you make the argument that you are depressed and are addicted to hookerville love.
    From the bill:
    the treatment limitations applica17
ble to such mental health or substance use
18 disorder benefits are no more restrictive
19 than the predominant treatment limita20
tions applied to substantially all medical
21 and surgical benefits covered by the plan
22 (or coverage) and there are no separate
23 treatment limitations that are applicable
24 only with respect to mental health or sub25
    stance use disorder benefits.

    From MSNBC
Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith introduced a bill in May to fix an item in the tax code under which the excise tax on inexpensive arrows for children is greater than the selling price of the arrows. Some nine manufacturers nationwide are affected.

  33. Posted by guest | October 2, 2008 at 9:06 AM

Arrows? What the fudge… You’ll shoot your out eye kid…

  34. Posted by guest | October 2, 2008 at 11:26 AM

FYI…excise tax IS NOT greater than cost of arrow!
12 pack of Rose Archery Arrows, Child; 5/16th; 28″; is $39 or $3.25 each (not including shipping and handleing).
I look forward to the immediate reduction, after House passage of this bill, of this 12 pack package of $4.68! (.39 cents/arrow).

Since when are arrows a commodity and what have they got to do with baling out the economy?
I thought this bill was to help the main streeters like me. I have never bought wooden arrows in my life.
So what about health insurance from injuries sustained whilst playing with the now tax exempt arrows?

You really don’t get it… The fact is the bill on sunday was only 114 or something long. I read it… but now the bill is littered with these pork barrel spending crap!… increased to 400 pages!!! do you really think the Bush administration did this? … right; blame it on the guy that is leaving, it just feels better… We should have the t-shirt say “pork barrel bailout!” quote from Glen Beck
