We don’t agree with Charlie Gasparino on everything (namely, deli meats) but on the topic of one of two entities formerly known as investment banks needing to make a gal-pal of Citi asap, we are on board. Problem is, CG is not certain who would go best with a jolly elfin’ CEO–Blankfein or Mack. On the one hand, it’s fairly well-documented that Lloyd loves to give belly rubs, so that would be a natural fit. On the other, as Gaspar points out, Mack and Vickula both worked at Morgan Stanley, so there’s a familiarity there. And of course, there’s this:

If you don’t see the raw chemistry between these two, and get that they are made for each other, you should seriously rethink your career in the financial services industry.

“Well, that was easy. I got $10 billion, how much did you get?”
    “$25 billion with a b bitch. That’s what Vicky’s talking about.”

    I like Vik’s subtle reminder: “I’m #1″
But seriously, didnt they NOT get along at MS. As in that’s why he left?

    didn’t they not

    What’s Pandit pointing at?

Maybe he’s trying to cover up the chicken tikka stain on his tie?

the chemistry is obvious. Vik is making a long pointy thing with his finger, and Mack is making a hole with his hand. Foreshadowing?

Sticky Viki’s planned Funeral Pyre is pushing forward……all of this is the writing on the wall. Wanna bet this unholy alliance is announced on Halloween? The Shindler’s List is now complete. Citi begins seperating the wheat from the ‘chaff in a matter of days. Mack the Knife stands and watches, ready to assume position.

7: Did not they not get along? Wait, still solving the double negative…

@7 Vikram left when P-squared consolidated power and promoted loyal vp’s Zoe Cruz and Steve Crawford to co-president leapfrogging Vik in the process. Also the biggest problem with these two getting together is the old Dean Witter and Smith Barney pieces of each company. It’s a little complicated but they’re retail so who gives a fuck, really?

Charlie Gasparino is too stupid to be allowed to speak without having an editor pre-approve whatever random rumor some low level trader has fed him. He actually speculated today about Citi and JPMorgan merging. This is a guy reporting on the financial industry who’s not even aware that there are laws regarding concentration of deposits by any one bank.

#18 this is a great point. I saw Charlie G today on CNBC going through every possible 2-way permutation between CITI, JPM, GS, MS. The dude is a straight fool.

Pandit left because of Purcell. Mack tried to get him back when he got back into power, but rumor was that Pandit would still have to report to the woman, who I can’t remember her name (Zoe or Zoey? something)who was picked as head of FI. Pandit declined since besides Purcell, this was a major part of the reason he left.
