Do you ever show up to life one morning and just want to pack it in, because the carnage you’re witnessing is so profound that no amount of apathy or self-centeredness for things that do not directly affect you can block the atrocities out of your consciousness? ‘Cause you can no longer sleep as a result of the wailing you swear you hear through the wall, late at night? And you know you’re powerless to stop not only the disruption in your REM cycle but the root problem? No? You will now. Credit Suisse has pushed expensed car service from 9 to 10 pm.

A bank’s got to do what a bank’s got to do.

10pm? What about all of us who have to cover the euro bond markets? Sheesh.
This is almost as bad as when they pushed back the evening meal reimbursement circa 2000. I used to love to see those back-office IT types coming over to EMA to get their limp fries and all-day-baked pizza from under the sunlamps. It was like the gnomes coming out from the caves for manna.
Us pros know that the food in the trade floor kiosk on EMA7 is always fresh (if never cheap).

I never understood the point of the black car perk, beyond the ego boost. A yellow cab is just as fast and no problem nabbing at that hour. Unless you dont live in Manhattan, which is not likely among analysts. And lets face it, who works till 10, except analysts.

  10. Posted by guest | October 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Right, we get it. Same alacrity; different specifics. (see http://dealbreaker.com/2008/10/the-end-is-near.php for one example)
Firms are cutting lunch/dinner expense reimbursements, car service hours. Good to know mine is not the only firm, but the gag is stale.
Now, for example, telling us that its because they’ve shifted to newly formed D. Fuld Towncar, Inc. and the owner/operator doesn’t get off his shift at Starbucks until 9:45… that kind of gag could be funny.
Work on it; get back to us.

This should have been policy long ago. Black cars make no sense inside manhattan.

Black cars makes sense in that YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM.
I know this sounds stupid, but it’s the Firm’s responsibility to get their employees home safe after a certain hour (particularly after the sun goes down). They’ll be held liable if someone leaves CSFB at 9:45, and gets mugged.
    Just sayin…
BTW, had a shack burger on Saturday night for old time’s sake. Delicious.

  16. Posted by guest | October 20, 2008 at 12:55 PM

    Any cuts at CSFB yet?

    So fucking poor!

I need a new job. is it best to stay in nyc or move to boston/chicago/dallas? nyc is the biggest market but there are tons of unemployed people here too.

I am a hedge fund manager in New York City. What’s a job?

  20. Posted by guest | October 20, 2008 at 4:45 PM

my firm didn’t get me a towncar because it was 9:30 and not 10, so i fared out on my own to make my way home.
by 9:32 i had been raped.

  21. Posted by guest | October 21, 2008 at 2:12 AM

Herein lies the problem … See, if the towncar were coming out of YOUR OWN pocket, you would opt for a cab.
Why not take a yellow cab and expense it? CSFB (as all firms I have worked for) would reimburse you … and one would think an employee would get points for saving the company money.
The towncar can run $40 or more to get you home. This is more a matter of ego than practicality. It’s like not wanting to use your “rollover” minutes because they are somehow tainted. Sorry, but it’s this type of culture that contributed to this god-awful mess.
And, CSFB is hardly located in a dangerous hood.
