    Viking was down about 30 bps YTD through 9/30, so those numbers don’t add up.

    Fission for the rhyme, but you must know its fusion,
    Or is this a symptom of our general confusion?

  11. Posted by guest | November 3, 2008 at 11:47 AM

    @4
    What is “cold fission”

  12. Posted by guest | November 3, 2008 at 11:53 AM

    @9
    yes,
    yes but it took them an awful long time to do it. That’s what we will see here…if they ever do. Some of the Aussie banks were smart to write them off entirely earlier this year….
    There seems to be this mantra that they will eventually be worth something at some point…but I also understand the need to project that assumption too-which is why the system got it’s bailout.

    There’s got to be a good McCain/Palin “maverick” joke in here but I just can’t find it.

    @Bess
    I’m pretty sure you can strip off the water mark using preview on the mac if you print the pdf as a new pdf. That way people won’t told out on the investor letters for fear of reprisal. Also, ipaper might also work.

    @9- you can choose to believe them or not, but these numbers are accurate.

    ep –
    The May 08 Viking LP number you posted is wrong. Just looked at one of their letters – gross return was +4.8%. Plus, look at your May Ltd. number (+4%) — highly unlikely the LP number would be so far off.
    Not trying to be a stickler — but I think the LP YTD number is probably more in the -2% area.
