You might be surprised to find that it is the 41st worst monthly report on record as a percentage of workforce. That’s decidedly undistinguished, insofar as half a million people doing (or not doing) anything isn’t a big deal, that is.
Still, something to say to the doom and gloomers over cocktails this weekend.

    Um…I guess.
*But remember when that jack@$$’$ John Snow and Greg Mankiw were exclaiming the virtues of the “Jobless Recovery of ’03.”
*And the outsourcing to the BRICs.
Think about this: Now we’re laying off those “jobless” workers.
    What are we left with?

    Novemeber?

something like 8 of those bad months shouldn’t really count– they occurred in late ’44, ’45, or early ’46. those were months when the economy was shifting out of WWII mode. it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to group those special dislocations with the more strictly business cycle ones.

What is the problem – our Savior President Obama is going to create 2.5 million jobs. Problem solved.
Yippe! Think i am going to go out and look at new houses now that i can get a 4.5% interest rate. I think i will qualify for the minimum on a $750,000 house (as long as my unemployment benefits are extended). No problem about not having a job because soon i will get my Obama job.
With lower gas prices i can almost afford that new prada bag on sale at saks.
    Things are looking up!

And how about the hundreds of thousands who are not searching for a job anymore and have given up, or something. Are those employed? Without those taken out of the workforce, the unemployment rate would have been 7% in November. And I’m not even bringing up U6.
