There were no good looking girls at the last one. It was 99 percent guys and of those 5% were recruiters, 30% were reporters and camerament and 65% unemployed.

Just so everybody knows; the last pink slip party sucked cock. There were camera crews everywhere asking people about how much they used to make and how broke they are now and I didn't encounter a single recruiter. There were some people from THELADDERS.COM which is like Monster of Hojtjobs except Ladders thinks that you're stupid enough to get information that's available for free. SAVE YOUR TIME: THE PEOPLE WHO PUT ON THE LAST PARTY WERE SCUMBAGS.

My life used to be so great.
I was so proud of myself, my parents were so proud. I had worked so hard.
Now I don't have a job. I didn't do anything wrong.
I put in so many years studying and trying so hard. And I had worked so hard to get the job I had.
And it's all gone.
Recruiters don't call me back. I don't really have any friends left since I spent the past few years working such crazy hours. I emailed and have contacted them all anyways hoping for any sort of a way to get a job.
I drink on the weekends. But I'm still just as depressed when I'm drunk. I didn't just pick this career for the money. I really do love finance and economics.
It's all gone. My job. I just don't know anymore. For a while you know I could laugh at the jokes because I could relate. But what am I going to do?
This was my life and now it's all gone.

#17 - just go forward, move on dude. If you want some fresh perspective and still want to work in economics, try working on a fishing boat for 1 year. Lots of fresh air, hard work, happy drinking at the end of the day, and you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the catch-to-cull ratio and how it applies directly to the amount of intelligence, effort and determination you put in to the job. At least you could have some comfort in knowing that it's an honest living and your skipper is not going to take home 4,000 times what you make.

a few thoughts, that are best kept in mind when things are good, but don't hurt to reconsider when they're not:
1) you should make sure that your life is more than your job. And don't tell me that that's impossible, given the hours that you work. That's just an excuse. In NY a lot of people fall into that trap, allow themselves to be defined by what they do. For instance, I've had people walk away from me at parties in mid sentence at those times in my life when I had a sucky job and no words could make it sound even passable.
2) you should realize that we all play in a high stakes world: no security, big rewards when things are good, crashing problems when they're not. So plan accordingly, make sure you always spend less than you earn.
