I know this is going to upset you, girls, so I'll just put it out there and we'll move on right quick. 55 employees were shown the door yesterday in Englewood Cliffs, which is upsetting yes, but, on the bright side, did not reach the 80-person level that has been previously predicted. We can also breathe a huge collective sigh of relief that no one from the Gasparino Variety Show, high (the big man himself) or low (the troika of staffers who are responsible for packing his gym bag every night, mixing his Myoplex shakes, and calling ahead at San Pietro's to make sure his table is available) was given the ax. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Donny Deutsch, whose show is "going on hiatus," and which sources say "didn't seem to fit the environment in the current economic crisis."

They canned The Big Idea?

Donny's show in its original incarnation wasn't terrible, but when he went the way of infomercial/self-help for "entrepreneurs" it jumped the shark (when previously it was just a lil' hop).
CNBC has seriously multiple personality disorder, needs to either split into 2 networks (professional/retail) or pick one and move on.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 10:52AM
now I'm done
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:01AM
ironically, the industry is going from professional to retail.
In a couple years, after a young analyst has spent all night on a pitchbook, he'll be expected to run across the street and man the teller booth.
Posted by AJ , Dec 05, 2008 11:01AM
I like that CNBC was still showing the "I'm Donny Deutsch. I am CNBC" ad as of this morning.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:02AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
HOW AM I GOING TO GET THE BIG IDEA NOW?
WE NEED ANOTHER IDEA SHOW FROM ANOTHER WHARTON GRAD.
I'M THINKING TRUMP.

Englewood Cliffs == Center of the Universe
Posted by Anal_yst , Dec 05, 2008 11:06AM
Frankly, BBG just needs to step the f&ck up and actually capitalize on CNBC's weakness(es), but alas...
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:07AM
The Big Idea? Hahahahahaha! Fuck that guy.
He's still got $$$ so who cares. That show was nothing more than an elongated ego trip for Douche man.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:08AM
Englewood Cliffs = studio three miles from GW Bridge = major cost savings; sort of like Jersey City or Metrotech
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:08AM
@9. Bloomberg will never tolerate another personality bigger than Bloomberg. Oh well...

Who is Charlie Gasparino?
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:20AM
haha donny douche
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:21AM
What is a Charlie Gasparino? Is it a delicious Italian dish prepared piping hot?
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 11:22AM
Come on....let it all hang out people.....We as viewers have tried to tell the short, bald assholes what they were doing wrong.....but, YOU CANNOT GET PAST THE RECORDED THANK YOU. Never a reply. Big...Big....mistake by protecting the wrong people. I am one of many who have been sick of seeing the same shit everyday and none of this is Gen. Sarnoff's NBC affiliate nor Pat Weavers. What is Charlie Gasparino is a better question.

@3: Agreed.
Donny Deutsch's show has gotten retarded and needed to be scrapped. $100 says a book deal is on the way.
Posted by dubs , Dec 05, 2008 12:14PM
@6/AJ
Yes, I was working out this morning and saw the donny deutsch "I am cnbc" ad. I was actually thinking about how disappointed I was that he'd keep running that show when I saw the ad, guess I won't have to be disappointed anymore.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 12:32PM
CNBC lost it when they took Bob Berkowitz off the air.I wanted T&A TV after 8pm and CNBC knew how to deliver the goods and never has talkin' dirty been so intellectual. It got my mind off!
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 12:33PM
Charles,
Your job is safe just as long as you keep getting those juicy scoops! Just keep the lubrication under control, OK? Your situations are sometimes a little too fluid! PS: Be nicer to Ratigan, he's really a sensitive guy.
Sincerely,
The Network

is Donny D wearing the Pirate shirt in that pic. is it a Halloween pic or is that his regular off the show wardrobe.
maybe that shirt is why they made him walk the plank....
Posted by Anal_yst , Dec 05, 2008 12:38PM

You're retarded. Englewood is one of the most expensive towns in the Country.

they should also cancel the new version of On the Money...those personal finance shows are incredibly boring. If i ever become financially-illiterate retail-investor swine, and i want to learn about how to start a 401k, i'll ready an 'effing suzy orman book.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 1:14PM
19 Englewood is not the same as Englewood Cliffs. Former is old, old money, the former home of Dwight Morrow, father in law of Lindberg and former JPM partner. Later is very Sopranos, mixed with corporate campuses. CNBC, as well as Unilever, Samsung, Lucky Goldstar.
Posted by Anal_yst , Dec 05, 2008 1:16PM
@28
the njguido types are more in teaneck, clifton, staten island etc, not so much englewood. Chill the f out son.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 1:19PM
31 Anal: where do you get yr info? Teaneck is blacks and orthodox jews. Kind of like Crown Heights goes to NJ. Not a guido for miles.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 1:21PM
Just don't touch Fast Money, OK guys? Love that testesterone fest every night @5 over cocktails. Every once in a while Ratigan has a hissy and it's priceless.

What about Don Peebles?
Posted by cy , Dec 05, 2008 1:38PM
30-
I don't think anyone would describe "below the tracks" Englewood as old money.
On a related note, I'll be in the englewood NYSC this afternoon if anyone wants a spot.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 1:39PM
Am I the only one who thinks that Bloomberg TV is far better than CNBC? For pros at least.
Posted by guest , Dec 05, 2008 1:54PM
@33 fast money is fucking awful. ratigan is awful. the bald guy looks like a human penis and is incredibly annoying. joe terraforma or whatever is a total greaseball. mr big nose fake tan from CIBC is tolerable. the lady is okay too i guess. i just can't stand how they all YELL when they speak. ugh.

Bloomberg is much better.

Lots of african americans and jewy jews correct, last time I was aroudn there (years ago) a jew friend of mine & friends had gone "guido", whether they were from teaneck or likely surrounding areas is beyond me, so you make a good point.
Clifton thoguh, I'm not budging on that, MAJOR guido's around that area!

I love NJ guidos. Makes me want to blow out my hair and shave my pubes so my d*ck looks bigger.

donny deutsch had the big paycheck. which is why he's been 86'd. the revolution is coming and overpaid tv peeps will be O-U-T. go watch some funny stuff on the internet and for the 1.9 million people outta work....you can do both on: http://www.iget2work.com
oh. and my broker's new joke: do you want your broth with or without salt?
which is why donny deutsch will be on the bread lines like the rest of us!

THEY NEED TO FIRE MARIA BARTIROMO!!!
Michelle Caruso-Cabrera is more than ready to have her own show. Therefore, move her to either Street Signs while Erin Burnett hosts Closing Bell with Dylan Rattigan OR move Michelle to Closing Bell. Cutting Maria would save CNBC a bunch of money and a lot of headaches.
Let Maria go to Fox Business. They may possibly need someone like her because all their personalities are useless! The worst show on their is Happy Hour. All the female reporters on that channel dont know ANYTHING about Wall Street but their on their as eye candy. Most of them actually look like trannys. And reformat the Dave Ramsey Show. That show is an absolut BORE!!
Posted by guest , Dec 07, 2008 1:56PM
e-anthony58........First sensible idea I've read on this site in many a moon. She will always be a bone of contention and she doesn't need the money. Think of it NBC.
Posted by guest , Dec 07, 2008 2:06PM
MB should have been blown out of cnbc in late 06 when the Thomson/Maria thing got squeezed to the public. While you are at it e-anthony58 cut D. Ratigan......not a worthwhile property....Yor a right on about Erin and Michelle.....both class and haven't heard about them having social conflicts....have you?
Posted by e_anthony58 , Dec 08, 2008 12:27AM
ERIN BURNETT IS THE FUTURE OF NBC NEWS!
She'll be with CNBC for 5 - 10 more years and then do the grand crossover. She could well possibly be bigger than Katie Couric (yea, that's right, i said it!). Bartiromo is a year or two away from being labeled "washed up/has been". No offense to her. I'm sure she's got great talent and passion for the business but CNBC + future DO NOT = Maria Bartiromo.
As for Dylan Rattigan, he seems cool to me. Though I cant help but think that he's the male version of Maria (lol). I remember watching Closing Bell one day (which i dont anymore because of a certain female presence) and someone on the stock floor threw baby powder on Dylan's shoes. Dylan was just laughing it off but Im sure the stock boys where teaching him a lesson on humbleness.
Posted by guest , Dec 08, 2008 1:21PM
e_anthony58.........For unexplained reason I like your style. I would like to exchange thoughts with you.....is there a way without giving out personal stuff? I agree with all you have said about cnbc and especially Maria. I am not impressed with Dylan, however. I used to have a PO Box so I could get mail untroubled..but, I never got any...soooooo
