@8 sorry to hear that, sucks for you but Levfin, well, cant be a surprise.. what % of you guys were axed?
Best.

What happened to the CS Layoffs post you had up today...did Brady call in to nix?
anyway layoffs are today & lastnight
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:12PM
Funny I was there for meeting last week and, I do have to say, the whole place did just reek of snobbery and entitlement. Never saw so many smug faces.
That said, sorry to all who lost jobs today. Hopefully it provides time to ponder your purpose and set yourself up for a more fulfilling life two or five years down the road.

Does Goldman have a wideclops in boots?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:39PM
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:41PM
I don't like 99% of the GS people, but I do have one very good friend there, at 1 NY Plaza, I really really hope that group is safe. Just emailed and hope to hear back. They have a family too, I just can't imagine how stressful it is to watch all this and wonder if you're next.

How 'bout a fresca?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:43PM
is it just me or a lot more comments being deleted? i have been away a couple of days..
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:44PM
GS cut this time will be deeper than the last. The CS thread is taken down. There has been tons of censorship lately. Check out the AQR thread (the "most commented") one. You cannot even post new comments there.

when did dealbreaker sell out?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:48PM
@33 and @34, the deletions are clearly in the case where people who aren't exactly household names are being named. Everybody has their enemies and I think DB is right in not allowing this to become a forum where people can anonymously slander someone.
Posted by Bess Levin , Dec 10, 2008 12:51PM
@39 would be correct. @36/37 would be stupid, as if GS controlled or owned dealbreaker, they'd probably have a problem with the actual post.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:55PM
thx Bess/39, i just saw the post #'s out of order, did not see what was actually written only that they were deleted.
Posted by Seaman Bodine , Dec 10, 2008 12:56PM
i hear there's some openings at jeffries
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 12:59PM
Deletions have turned #10 into an epic fail
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:01PM
yes, i thought db was better than that
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:01PM
Maybe GS does own DB and this post is just a front to make it look they don't. Kinda like that pizza place on my corner that is only open three hours each day.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:03PM
"Don't delete me bro!"
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:06PM
#10 here just to be clear - unlike spode i dont like sucking my own ass, i got screwed by deletions.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:06PM
any severance details?
Posted by Bess Levin , Dec 10, 2008 1:07PM
@44- I'm sorry that we don't allow random, non-senior employees to be harassed by little trolls in the comments. To the rest of you wondering why we'd delete comments that specifically name people who posts have nothing to do with, and allow personal details to remain on the site- either use your fucking brains, or send me your name/employer name/rank/picture/any other relevant details you think the peanut gallery might enjoy and I'll be happy to offer them to the crowd.

What are the first year associate bonus, wait scratch that, severance numbers?
Posted by NAS Keflavik boi , Dec 10, 2008 1:07PM
@43 - yeah, they should at least retain the original numbering, just for the sake of thread continuity...
Posted by NAS Keflavik boi , Dec 10, 2008 1:09PM
@ 49 (bessalina) - tell that to wideclops!

Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:14PM
Bess is right. No anonymous mud slinging should be tolerated. Let's try to maintain minumum decency as human beings. there is a reason why the public hates finance professionals. Because many of us are fucking shitheads.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:15PM
having your name posted and not deleted on DB is the new 7 figures.
bring the hammer bess, posting private info of your fellow peons anonymously is such a bitch move.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:15PM
@59 did you call in GAY today?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:15PM
is this officially wideclops fallout?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:15PM
@59 That's what happens when you "suck each other's asshole[s]". Or in #10's case, your own.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:17PM
@59 - why don't you turn those meanies the other ass-cheek?

Let's get some color! what the fuck is going on at GS? I hear their SF office is decimated. How about London, HK?
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:37PM
and hawai; poor hawai!!!
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:39PM
You know the sucky part? I remember layoffs post-2000 Internet bubble bursting. The worst, laziest people got laid off first before things got really bad. These were the people who landed at new jobs.
As the Dow kept falling, the "muscle" was cut, not just the fat. But there'd already been so many rounds and so many people out of work, that the best people (the ones laid off last) were the ones least able to find work, thanks to the bad guys who got laid off first taking whatever slots there were.
Good luck you GS and CS people - you guys aren't the wasteproducts.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 1:39PM
So weird. Someone contacted me for a Stat Arb Prop trading role in Tokyo for GS.
Most GS people are arrogant and average.

you are arrogant and under-average. and you suck assholes.

DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE AN IP LAWYER.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 3:49PM
IP lawyer? uhh, shouldn't you be reading "Above the Law"... or are you just one of the wanna-be bankers?
oh, and IP is hardly something to brag about, nerd.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 4:53PM
I'm transactional. Smart enough to pass on the TMT offer. Laughing all the way to the bank now.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 11:12PM
@83 - If you are transactional, then you have no work. Don't think that since you are a lawyer, you are immune to layoffs. Good luck paying off those $100k in law school loans when you are waiting tables fucktard.
Posted by guest , Dec 10, 2008 11:34PM
not an IP lawyer here, but I do know that it pays very well.
Posted by guest , Dec 11, 2008 12:52AM
NOt to worry, IP Law will be toast in '09 too. Trolls and their ambulance chaser laywers can't get loans, and big tech ain't suing anyone. Too busy doing RIFs and such.
BK law will be huge. Boy I can't wait to see what it's like to live in a socialist country. U-S-A!
Posted by guest , Dec 11, 2008 1:57AM
83 here. My niche practice area is busy as ever for the foreseeable future. Loans are paid off. Life is good, except that we got shafted at bonus time this year.
Posted by guest , Dec 11, 2008 4:48PM
You two look like a couple of Boobies!

You two look like a couple of Boobies!
Posted by guest , Dec 12, 2008 4:39PM
shafted... yes, so you don't work at S&A.
No special bonus for you this year, and only 50% of the "regular" lock-step associate bonus.
Hope you didn't kill yourself billing... because it sure wasn't worth the ~$27,500k pre-tax "bonus" you're getting (and that's if you're at a top 10 firm as a 6th year).
So the next time you want to squable about the terms patent vs copyright vs trademark, please stick to the dull legal blogs, because we sure as hell do not give a damn here.
