Ford CEO Alan Mulally says he is confident his company can survive the recession but is "very concerned" about the future of GM and Chrysler. He added that he had been unprepared to offer details when he testified before Congress but says he is now armed with a recovery plan.-- WSJ

I'd be very concerned for them too, especially when Chrysler is playing the Great Depression hand double down

The plan revealed: Ford employees will secretly travel US roads looking for parts that have fallen from GM and Crashler vehicles and then re-sell them on the spot auto parts market.
Found Ford parts will be recycled.

Didn't read, too pitiful.

lol this rhetoric is so tired and pathetic.
"we are doing great, dont worry. but the industry as a whole is hurting, it needs your aid!"

Sad day when Ford is now the strongest US auto maker. Kudos to them.

the industry across the board is hurting. Look at Toyota. Looks like that double-down on becoming the next Chevy isn't working out too well. They just have a strong cash reserve and are subsidized by the Japanese government.

I ain't buyin' no new car until they get lower prices. I ain't paying 40,000 bucks for no dang car. Momma always said a man just needs enough money to get by and the rest is for show. A Snapper mower is pretty good to drive on a nice day.

Computers have gotten cheaper, housing has gotten cheaper, commodities have gotten cheaper, TVs have gotten cheaper but automobiles are still over-priced.

Bess another brilliant title. hats off.

@10. Yeah, $40k for a Cadillac?
Seriously?
I know it's a Cadillac an' all, but it's a *Cadillac*, for god's sake!

Didn't read, too blue collar
Posted by Anal_yst , Dec 03, 2008 4:53PM
Um, new Chevy "Crossover" the Traverse is $40k.
What they meant when they blame the credit market freeze for their woes is that, if I may loosely translate, "We can't issue oodles of cheap debt to fund our bloated operations, and our customers can't obtain similarly cheap and plentiful debt to (over) pay for our vehicles and now we're f&cked!"

Ford was a nazi. let the piece of shit nazi company fail.
Posted by guest , Dec 03, 2008 5:02PM
15 Funny how that ford was a nazi thing gets dragged out while at the same time MOT's have no problem driving Beamers and Benz's.

Don't forget the most important: VWs.
Posted by guest , Dec 03, 2008 6:52PM
Ford is the best of the Big 3 in my opinion anyway. However, they should not have gotten caught in the high gas squeeze. Yeah, it's cheap today. Will they be ready for the next one?

Ah yes, Mullaly the same genius who said American's will never buy and drive diesel powered auto's; ask MB, VW and soon BMW why they bother selling them. Seems VW sales beat the pack at -19.2 (after introducing the new Jetta diesels) which beats the hell out of F, GM and the enitre pack.
Posted by guest , Dec 03, 2008 7:47PM
@ 19, which of those manufacturers still sells diesel cars on lots today?
I'm actually curious, b/c I'd buy a diesel, but it doesn't seem that any new ones are sold at US dealerships.

Excuse me, I thought Ford was asking for money. How about if we give them some if they agree to takeover Chrysler? What's good for Chrysler is good for Ford, isn't it?
