The Madoff Gold Standard

He stopped posting scores in May 2000, when ramping up the Ponz. presumably left little time for golf but in any event, NakedShorts reports:

  2. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 9:47 AM

Why is the dude’s investment scheme named after the “hoodlum” character on the old TV sitcom “Happy Days”? I can’t find the reason via Google.

moral of the story – never trust anyone who manages money or plays significant amts of golf & is from florida.

I think its now a “Madoff Scheme” rather than a “Ponzi Scheme”. Ponzi didnt invent it he just pulled of the most epic fraud using a pyramid scheme. I think its fair to say he’s been trumped by Bernie.

Madoff reportedly would bang on the black box he ran his fund thru, and instead of executing trades it began reporting false fills. blame it on the black box.
    ayyyyy…..
May the Fonzi be with you…
    …and also with you

    BESS,
You think you can score a Madoff Investments presentation and post?!? I need some levity in this age of gloom and doom…

  14. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 10:25 AM

@2/5… Dude your shot. Do the due dilligence before posting and making yourself look like an idiot. Man I hate quest posting – Guest.

@2, you’ve confused your scandals. The Fonzarelli impersonator is the Governor of Illinois.

What are the odds this guy ends up eating a bullet?

  20. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 10:51 AM

has anyone figured out how much this guy made in fees each year? Just tryin to figure out how much you need to ride a helicopter to work.
Though its not quite as baller if you have to share it with some other dude.

  21. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 11:30 AM

@19 – as time passes, likelihood of that happening is inversely proportional to net profits his shareholders realize.
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear news that he and his sons go the way of Heaven’s Gate… do they admit Jews?

  22. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 11:33 AM

@2 Madoff’s theft is called a “Fonzi scheme” after a character in the old tv show “Happy Days”. The character Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli (known as “Fonzi”) would ask for /one/ hamburger for free from Arnold’s Restaurant promising that he would pay for /two/ hamburgers the next day. Fonzi never did pay for those two hamburgers :(
You can see the similarities in what Madoff did.
    @17 “@ 2 your stupid. ha”
    You’re?

  23. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 11:43 AM

@22 – but didn’t Fonzi send Bluto to try and destroy Arnolds with the Q-32 space modulator but, unfortunately, there was no Earth Shattering “KaBOOM!”???

  24. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 12:05 PM

@22 – That must have occurred in one of the later episodes. I stopped watching after they introduced the “Scrappy” character. Show totally jumped the bagel after that.

  25. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 2:08 PM

    Madoff jumped the Sharpe ratio.

  26. Posted by guest | December 15, 2008 at 3:19 PM

Maybe he stopped reporting his scores when it occurred to him he transfer his golf cheating to money management.
