There's nothing to sharpen the Schadenfreude like a good list of Made-off victims. Of course, we delight in seeing big (and preferably pompous) names on the ever-increasing list of Made-off victims lists. The snide aside "He was a Made-off investor, you know..." has quickly become the socialite jab of the month, usurping "That sweater is 100% acrylic" by a landslide in this week's survey. As a proxy telling us who didn't bother doing diligence (no-name accounting firms? C'mon people!) there are few better indicators. So, we bring you the best list we've found yet, hosted by FinAlternatives.

Seriously I swear, I was following all of the banks rules, I just paid out a higher interest rate. Who knew we would have a bank run.

Are these the "imaginary" inflated values from statements, or the paid in amounts?
Couldn't discern from the article.

Do any of the B/D owned HFs clear/custody through the parent firm? Global Alpha, I'm looking at you here. I mean, the no-name auditor is one thing, but as has been pointed out a brand name auditor is not much better in preventing fraud. However, the self-custody thing should have raised all sorts of flags.

Was trying to explain Madoff's ponzi scheme to my 7 year-old nephew last night - almost looks like a Christmas tree, where the angel rests on top and it's green & pretty - and the dead, withering branches below are just cut away and thrown in the bin

Foundation for Humanity (Elie Wiesel's charity) = The Human Fund?
Are we sure this is a real organization?

@17, very real philanthropy...
When they start reclaiming earlier redemptions on this thing it is goign to be the biggest nightmare in history. Think the Govt will refund the short-term capital gains you would have had to pay?
Posted by guest , Dec 15, 2008 5:56PM
@24, can they clawback redemptions from a failed fund?
Posted by guest , Dec 15, 2008 6:41PM
@25. Yes they can and will and 24 was correct. This will be a giant nightmare and takes years to unfold.

The list looks like the who's who of the Jewish Underworld. The land is Islam is laughing at the irony where the traitor was among them.
