    I am a laid off banker. For $1,000,000 and a ticket to the cayman islands I will take care of Mr. Madoff. I will subsequently be starting an alternative asset management firm. Any takers?

    Can the people who lost money sue the companies that invested the money for them instead of him? They would probably get more money that way. Those companies should have made sure they were investing money in a reliable place.

    I think it was a scam from the beginning and I think his family was involved. The economy is so bad now that they couldn’t keep it up so they all probably got together and said “what do we do now? we’re going to get caught but let’s figure out a way to explain it so that we don’t all go to jail for it. We will claim nobody knew and when we found out we turned him in.”
    I’m sure he has already put lots of money in bank accounts in other countries – he also put his home in FL in his wife’s name. This was intentional because according to laws in that state even if he is convicted she can keep the home – that shows they planned this for a long time. The family was very involved in philanthropy but in a way where they received lots of publicity for it. “Look at us, we’re all so philanthropic” but people who do that usually only want the publicity.
