As previously mentioned, both Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will be conducting an additional round of population restructuring at their respective firms in the near (ca. April) and very near future (ca. February). The Journal pegs the reduction in workforce in the House of Mack at about 5 percent, and also describes the the expected bloodletting as merely under “consideration.”

    RBS London will be doing layoffs in next 2 weeks. If you can believe it, there have been NONE there to date. Greenwich Capital has had at least 3 rounds (so much easier to have the colonies suffer); bonuses get paid out first week of March so layoffs must be done before that.
    Speaking for the colonies – it’s about GD time. You idiots were the ones who bought ABN Amro, which torpedoed us here in the States. Your entire credit area told you it was a dumba** idea. Thanks for overriding us!

  10. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 9:49 AM

    Is there any substantial proof to this story? Or is this just a bunch of immature university kids smoking blunts and jerking off to dodgy porn, blah blah blah, wife and two kids, blah blah.

    I don’t think its fair to Lycan Goldman to Morgan Stanley.

  12. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 9:55 AM

    too poor, didn’t afford

  13. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 9:57 AM

    @ 11 , seeing as there is a link to WSJ article talking about layoffs, I’m not sure wtf more you want.

  14. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 10:08 AM

    @13, too full, didn’t moon

  15. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 10:13 AM

    @7 – that’s bullshit! Know of plenty of people at GBM London who’ve got sacked. At least 2 rounds AFAIK, and that’s not counting the merger cuts.

    Goldman layoffs? The end is near…

    Does anyone know how Jared from Subway has fared thoughout the financial crisis? I haven’t seen him on any commercials lately. All I ever see are fat people singing about 5 subs for 5 dollars.
    My fear is that he was laid off and gained back all that weight he worked so hard to lose.

  19. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 10:40 AM

    @18, did you trip and fall down the elevator shaft when the door was open again?
    Your worried about a rich retired ex fat boy?
    Have you considered turning off the TV, going outside and noticing the world still exists?

  20. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM

    @18 – don’t let 19 get to you. I, too, am concerned about Jared. As I would be concerned about the Geico Gecko if the little stack of bills with eyes starts to become too prevalent.

  21. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 11:15 AM

    @18, I can’t get past Ofrah’s struggles. It breaks my heart.

  22. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 11:17 AM

    “When I was at Goldman” will be replaced with”back when I was working”. Good luck s-bags. You deserve it after ripping people off for years, trading the other side of your clients etc.

  23. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 12:43 PM

    @ 17, I saw your post yesterday, and what you’re saying holds no weight now that there is clearly a WSJ article.
    Layoffs are coming. Whether you want to believe it or not is up to you.

  24. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 1:07 PM

    @19
    You diminish the seriousness of viable posting on this site.

  25. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 1:50 PM

    “Population Restructuring”? Sounds like the sort of management technique that gets you hauled in to the Hague

  26. Posted by guest | January 30, 2009 at 6:06 PM

    So I’m on board with the MS layoffs – they’re obviously going to happen. But at this point GS is just rumors. DB is hardly wrong on this stuff, but they did say something was going to happen this week and nothing did. So are we really going to see April layoffs for GS? I’m still not convinced.

  27. Posted by guest | February 23, 2009 at 11:44 PM

    I’m at Goldman and they are making more layoffs tomorrow, though it’s likely the usual bottom 5% they do every Feb.
