Nostradamus Gasparino: Vikram Pandit On The Way Out

Like he said yesterday and this morning and moment earlier, Charlie Gasparino believes Citi CEO Vikram Pandit is likely to be shown the door. According to Chaz, "the market is betting Vikram Pandit's days are over," but there are a couple other reasons we shouldn't be too quick to dismiss the news.

1. Litmus Tests. Though officials at the Big C have categorically denied the story, there's an observable pattern here. CG told Mel Francis, "I got screamed at by Jimmy Cayne's flack and Joe Gregory's and then guess what happened a few weeks later?" So, though it's not yet a science, Chaz gettin' yelled at = someone's gettin' fired.

2. Past Performance and Crystal Balls. Do not discount track record. As Gasparino reminded us, "I've predicted a lot of these executive changes at the top."

Fuck you idiotic bunch

If you think clearly. Vik is the smartest CEO in USA rightnow. He understands the business C is in. He knows what to retain and what to sell off.

He is going nowhere... its not as if we have a great CEO waiting to take over.

If you boot him, you could only have an idiot like Dick Fuld in his place whchi will ensuire C dies in 4 months max

Vik is probably going to stay. Though he is in over his head and hasn't done jack in a year, this isn't really his mess.

He can sacrifice Sir Pooh and Rubin and maybe a few other directors to buy himself a few more days in the executive suite.

He'll break up the company and take one of the healthier pieces for himself.

@4. Good CEO???!!! Please! I've been in a couple dozen meetings with this "guru" and believe me. The only smart thing he did was hire Havens (Vik's Brain). On his own he's lucky to tie his shoes.....

He'll be shot trying to escape soon enough. Chaz has it right!

Posted by guest , Jan 14, 2009 5:32PM

@22 -- Havens? Come on, you're smarter than that.

@ 4 / Mrs Slumdog: you don't even believe that yourself. Worst leadership skills ever displayed is closer to the truth. Not even the analysts and associates think the guy has a vision or lead. Hollow cliche after cliche, in the running for weakest leadership and people skills in a long and poor history of bad Wall St leaders. And he has so little self-awareness, he'd find this assessment shocking.
