Bloomberg Reports:
A former Texas bail bondsman who told investors he ran a $45 million hedge fund and installed a swimming pool at his office was sued by U.S. regulators for allegedly operating a Ponzi scheme.

Hmmmm ok. Continue....

This is seriously funny Shit.

So the ratings agencies would give this guy what, a BBB rating?
Posted by guest , Jan 21, 2009 2:50PM
Nicely done, ep. A positive score for each "confirmation" would have been funnier.

Just call Howard Markapolos (sp?). If he says it smells like shit - pay Howard and move on.

Notify Federal authorities? What good will that do?
Should be notify H. Markopolis.

I'm going to forward this to my former colleagues at the SEC. Here's hoping EP's GfFFa is incorporated into offical government risk metrics used by examiners (they call it the "Control Scorecard").
For those wishing to have their own conversations with the SEC's crack staff, call your regional office (http://sec.gov/contact/addresses.htm) and ask to speek to the investment adviser duty officer of the day.

Lamesa, TX, is so small that the zipcode there is a decimal. The town is so small the highschool only has one team color.
The town is so small their pawnbroker's sign has only one ball.
The town is so small that when the town water tower was last vandalized via grafitti, written on the water tower was "Senior '78".

"Stringer, doing business as RCS Hedge Fund"
These people deserved to get fleeced. Who puts the words Hedge Fund in your company name?
That would be like: SAC Capital Hedge Fund, LLC. Or, Renaissance Technologies Hedge Fund.
Citadel Hedge Fund, LLC (soon to be bankrupt).

As a native Texan, I do not the downgrade is unfair. While we had Enron, we do have Exxon which really does make a boatload of money.
BTW - I think you should add a factor "financial genius allegedly working in middle of nowhere." To call Lamesa (pronounced - Lah-misa) remote is a huge understatement.

Wow. 16/17 just solidified the logic behind docking points for the Texas location.
Posted by guest , Jan 21, 2009 10:48PM
Lamesa is pronounced LaMEsa. It's between Lubbock and Midland. I grew up there with Rod. He comes from a good family...this makes me really sad!
Posted by guest , Jan 21, 2009 11:26PM
Yes he built a pool. He was in an extremely serious automotive accident. He was completly unable to put weight on his legs for months. He needed the pool for physical therapy. If you had $45 million and needed a pool in a town without the facilities for that type of therapy what would you do? Even the local news is spinning his "lifestyle" much worse than those of us who live here and watched it know it to have been!
Posted by guest , Jan 22, 2009 12:37AM
first off - HE NEVER HAD 45 MILLION! - thats just what he told people - he refused to go to vegas unless it was in a leased KingAir or other private plane which costs 10k - 15k per roundtrip - pictures on his son's myspace prove that - wake up - he'll say i'm sorry - and i am sure he is genuinely sorry, but not for what he did, he's sorry that he got caught - don't feel sorry for him - i feel for his family and those that went from thinking they had millions to finding out that the hundreds of thousands they gave him is gone.

EP, this is ridiculous. LTCM had a pool table, which helped Meriwether shoot for wholes, not halves. I pray you take it back.

Funny and clever, EP. Makes up for those boring monographs you're wont to produce from time to time.

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE TALKING CRAP ABOUT ALL THIS, YES ROD DID A BAD THING. I LIVE HERE IN LAMESA AND I HAVE KNOWN HIS FAMILY FOR YEARS. I KNOW HIS MOTHER, HIS WIFE, HIS SONS, AND HIM. YES HE DID SOME BAD THINGS AND YES HE GOT CAUGHT. BUT REALLY DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND YOUR ENTIRE DAY TALKING ABOUT IT AND TALKING DOWN HIS FAMILY? HE IS HUMAN AND GREED GOT THE BEST OF HIM, BUT HIS FAMILY DOESN'T DESERVE WHAT YALL ARE ALL PUTTING THEM THRU. THINK IF THAT WAS YOUR FAMILY...WOULD YOU STILL BE TALKING SO MUCH SMACK? DIDN'T THINK SO...
Posted by guest , Jan 22, 2009 6:52PM
I know Rod personally, I grew up in the town of Lamesa pronounce it however you like, but what he did shoud not reflect our town he has a family and they deserve common courtesy just as yours would if it were you...was what he did wrong wothout a doubt but not your day or any one elses for judgement ......do not think he is the only 1 guilty of this look around in your closet or your neighbor who knows who cares.....the peolpe making these comments probably had ZERO investment with him so what is of your business....good day Kari.............
Posted by guest , Jan 23, 2009 1:39AM
Alright all of you people that say youre from Lamesa and said you know Rod personally know he deserves every last bit of what he is getting. I am also from there and Rod is the worst kind of person and the financial things here arent the last of his law breaking we will see. Hes a selfish loser that doesnt care that his friends and family are getting dragged through the mud. Also the pool wasnt needed he just wanted to show everyone how much money he had.
Posted by guest , Jan 23, 2009 9:11AM
The guy is an idiot..everyone should quit making excuses for this punk. I am sorry for his family, but did they know what he was doing? Hum...Hopefully investors will get some back and he will do time in the fed. pen. We as a society need to be more aware of the scams around us. It seems the majority of the world will screw the next guy, friend or not, if he can make a buck. Just shows how messed up things are and will stay.
Posted by guest , Jan 23, 2009 4:32PM
I am also from Lamesa, and I think what this man did is horrible. Yes, his family has to pay for all of this too, but obviously, he didn't care as long as he seemed to be a big deal. Hum, so how did his wife think he could make so much money in a seriously ill economic time. Is she stupid, or did she go along with it? If he is this dumb, do you think he was smart enough to put some of it in the Caymans? I wonder how much he stole from his own family. Believe me, Lamesa is not in the mind-blowing educational region of the world! Elementary teachers with barely a bachelor's degree consider themselves well educated!! So, with idiots like that, you can see why Lamesa is a heartland to scam, even from used car salesmen!
Posted by guest , Jan 23, 2009 5:50PM
Its true that Lamesa isn't the brightest of all places, but nobody deserves what this guy has done to put us on the map. Why didn't the bank report this a long time ago. I'm sure they saw all the deposits and knew he wasn't licensed. Aren't they also responsible for hurting all these people.
Posted by guest , Jan 26, 2009 10:24AM
How do you know the bank did not report this a long time ago? Maybe they did report it and the SEC and others did not look into until Madoff made this a big deal. The bank is not required to get proof of a license for any account they open up.
Although I feel sorry for his investors, they and Stringer bear the responsibility for their decisions and actions. The banking system cannot and should not be the policeman of the world.
Do you want your banker looking at every transaction you do? Can you justify every time you make a cash withdrawal or deposit.
Stringer is not the only criminal in Lamesa. What about all you farmers who cash a seed rebate or gin check because
you know you are incorporated and Monsato or the gin will not send a 1099?
A little tax evasion never hurt anyone. I am sick and damn tired of all you people in Lamesa and O'Donnell who think your sh-- doesn't stink. You think you are a little but better than everyone else, because you have a operating line of credit and a house in New Mexico, a ski boat and all the toys of a cotton farmer. You guys think nothing of under-reporting your income on your taxes.
As a CPA, I know the sh-- you guys pull. You had better hope the feds don't come looking for you. They can ask your banker, with a couple of keys strokes can tell the IRS what your reported income SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
SO, although Stringer is a Bas---d, we know that he has a lot of company down there Dawson County. I hope they put him away for a long time--and I hope the rest of you hypcocrites jon him soon.

@(...)
who the fuck are you people?
Posted by guest , Jan 27, 2009 4:56PM
Man #31, you sure are upset about something. If you're a big CPA, then you should know the bulls___t farmers put up with. Astronomical seed prices, outrageous equipment prices, and horrible sales prices. As far as farming goes, unless you were lucky enough to have inherited a ton of land, its just not that easy to make the boat, trip and new truck money.
I'm also sure as a big CPA, you should know how things actually work as far as banking, loan repayment and finances go, but it appears that isn't the case. I'll go ahead and tell you, a dollar borrowed must be repaid to a bank, otherwise you don't get another loan for the next year. Whether a farmer spends it on a new truck, a nicer house, or fertilizer, it all has to be paid back. I know its hard to grasp, but you'll get the hang of it.
I don't know who got up your skirt, but buckle down. It's almost tax season and you should be sitting down to try to figure out how to screw the IRS in your own way. After all, that is what you do. Anyways, I guess this hypocrite will just wait until I get caught so I can "jon" him. Great grammar!! Good day sir.
Posted by guest , Jan 29, 2009 2:05PM
Number 33, you are a prick. Wow, you can read and try to dismiss my points by noting a typo. If it is so hard to make a living as a farmer, stop your crying and get a real job. Maybe if you would get off your ass and leave the coffee shop before 10:00 am and work a full day once in awhile, fire some of your Mexicans, you could make a profit.
Just because I am a CPA, does not mean that I am not also a business man, a farmer, and also a banker. I also not the definition of bank fraud, and that includes misapplying loan proceeds granted for one purpose and using them for another.
I have kicked more dumbass farmers off their land and sent them packing for a job at Wal-Mart than you could count, and most of them did stupid crap like living off their farm lines. I really don't care about these dumbshit farmers, they are basically just living off the government away.
Tell you what #33, I will turn you into the IRS and you turn me in and we will see who goes to jail. I am 100% honest, report ALL my income, deduct only waht is legal and correct. Can you say the same thing? If so, you are one of the few honest farmers I have ever seen.
Just so you get this straight, Stringer deserves jail and so does anybody else who cheats or steals.
Posted by guest , Jan 30, 2009 4:06PM
"I have kicked more dumbass farmers off their land and sent them packing for a job at Wal-Mart than you could count, and most of them did stupid crap like living off their farm lines."
I can count pretty high. I'm gonna guess you have never kicked anyone for anything you pencil pusher! Lets just call the IRS on everyone. You can find me at Wal-Mart or the Coffee shop if you want to discuss that matter further.
As far as discounting your points by showing your lack of writing ability, I think the points discounted themselves. Your bad grammar was just a bonus.
There are probably some farmers who misapply their loan proceeds, but some farmers hafta clear each and every dispursement from their loan. I guess it just depends on who you use for financing.
All that is really apparent here is that you are one bada** mofo, and each and every farmer should fear your wrath!!
Stringer should go to jail for what he did, but I really don't see what that has to do with the a**hole farmers from O'Donnell and Lamesa who think their sh** doesn't stink. I could say you should go find something better to do, but I really hope to hear from you again. Oh, and please keep me posted on any more farmers you may oust from their land and throw out on their asses. Your fake stories are what I live for.

i love when people talk about shit they dont know anything about. people look at farmers and think they have it made. come hang out at the farm for a while and see how easy it is. not everyone hangs out at the coffee shop.

To the "cpa" thats talking crap about farmers....how many farmers pay you to do their taxes? Thats right i said "Pay"...so in other words you are getting paid to fill out the papers that we sign and turn in to the government...hmnm sounds like your doing a little tax fraud yourself, i mean you do have to sign the return right beside the sorry ass farmer right? You know I dont remember hearing about sec 179 deductions at the last farm meeting pretty sure i heard it at my accountants office. Or no wait a minute your right it was at the coffee shop and i forced my accountant to do it just for me, thats why he has a nicer house and drives better vehicles than me..Oh yea by the way get off Rod... he never forced anyone give him money, as a matter of fact he turned down more than you could imagine. Did you give him money? If so then your a dumbass for doing it you should have just gone to Vegas and gambled it away ....or wait a minute thats the same thing these people did only they didnt put their money on a nice green craps table they just wrote a check to Rod Stringer and said "here see if you can do something with this". Guess what they crapped out. At least you could tell that this was a gamble and that like any other stock market deal it could go bad. Not like a CPA here in town that was stealing money from his clients, those people had no idea that that could happen. Sorry to bring up something bad about a nice CPA like yourself but sweep your own porch before dusting someone elses......PEACE!!!!
