The thing about this production of “Theater of the Absurd” is that the first act never seems to end.

A Senate committee put off its vote on Representative Hilda Solis’s nomination as labor secretary, one day after her husband paid to settle tax liens.

Welcome to the big leagues, gang!

@5 it was either business as usual or business totally fk’d up by McCain and Palin. Lesser of two evils. The fact that some people actually believed Obama could somehow find 1,000 honest Americans is what strikes me as funny.

Liberal slant to the rescue! Couldn’t even find this article on CNN until I looked in a tucked away corner on their politics page. In their article, the tax lien issue isn’t even mentioned. Un-freaking-real.

This administration is proving to be a bunch of amateurs that can’t even get the little things right. God help us when the foreign policy team gets tested.

I get it, this is change. instead of shady corporate dealings, we are getting a bunch of tax cheats! @1 – agreed, obama’s due diligence team is on par with the bofa dd team that looked at merrill…wtf?

surely geitner, as head of the irs, can write special provisions in place to exempt people from having paid taxes when they are pick for the call of duty for the obama administration.

    Question:
Are these tools getting caught because
this wasn’t an area of too much interest
    in the past?
Did previous nominees get a free ride
because there was no due diligence OR
were they just better at hiding their
    crimes?
With today’s climate it comes as no surprise that more eyes will be looking for things that are out of place.
I must admit that all these failures do
make the committee making the choices
    look very amateurish.

Hillary is the only one I trust out of the whole bunch. She has more balls than Obama’s whole cabinet and ice running through her veins.
Her armor is like ten-fold shields
    Her teeth are like swords
    Her claws spears
The shock of her tail…a thunderbolt!
    Her wings a hurricane
    And her breath…Death!

None of that sh!t matters to the Republicans – all that matters with Solis is that she supports card check, which is absolute anathema to the small-business wing of the party.
Too bad, because they ain’t gonna win on that issue, although they’ll go down with guns blazing…

The obama administration has no realistic plans in place to accomplish much of anything. Amateurs all. “Theatre of the Absurd” to say the least.
2 weeks into a potentially 4-year-long presidency, and look at WTF we have. Unbelievable.
TGFD was willing to give obama a chance, and I have no grudge against him, but HowTF can I ignore the past week’s pandamonium. Good Grief.

In the meantime, somewhere in Dallas:
Elliot’s Hardware — a local Dallas hardware store — has “appealed to former President George W. Bush to spend his new-found retirement working as a part-time greeter at its Maple Avenue store.” “Our greeters are a legendary part of our customer service,” said Kyle Walters, Elliott’s Hardware president and CEO. “And we are offering the position to Mr. Bush in all sincerity. We think it would be a great fit for him as he settles back into life in Dallas.” If he chooses to take the position, Bush will enjoy company perks such as “a flexible part-time schedule (to allow travel to Crawford),” a parking space, and an employee discount.
But make sure Bush pays taxes for those perks.

  27. Posted by guest | February 5, 2009 at 6:01 PM

Most of the people that Hoped for Change We Believe In don’t really understand any of this anyhow.
They’re too busy taking their W2s to H&R Block to get a “refund advance” to worry about some ‘tax problem’ that the evil Republicans are dreaming up about their boy’s picks.

It’s not just about Solis or the amount involved. So far, she’s the 5th nominee for high office who has IRS tax-cheat issues, or is she the 6th? How many nominees have there been in total? 7? 8?

  35. Posted by guest | February 5, 2009 at 6:19 PM

    @33
The liens are not IRS, they are LA County against her husband’s business, for which she is not a partner.
    USA Today:
Los Angeles County records showed 15 outstanding state and county tax liens against Sayyad and his auto repair business, totaling $7,630. Two other liens worth $981 were released in 1999 after Sayyad repaid the taxes owed, according to county records.

@8 you are right about Hillary. I wrote her name in last November. I was here for Carter, another premature presidential ejaculation. The tax dodger nominees and the thrown together $1 trillon stimulus package are even lamer than anything JC foisted on us.

On every deal I or my colleagues do, we do a lien search, which includes a search for tax liens. On many of them, we find a tax lien. Most are immaterial, so no one really cares (though we do recommend the business pays them off as good business practice). Basic point, this isn’t really that big of a deal, it happens all the time and it doesn’t mean that the party in question is a criminal, or even stupid.
And I’m not jumping on the “Obama bandwagon” here, I just think that some of the crap that we and our media are currently getting caught up with is absolutely immaterial and irrelevant.

  42. Posted by guest | February 5, 2009 at 6:53 PM

you numnuts realize that it was her husbands BUSINESS taxes that were screwed up, not hers. She had absolutely ZERO to do with it.

  43. Posted by guest | February 5, 2009 at 7:07 PM

Republicans – the party that wants low taxes and pays their taxes. Demos – the party that wants high taxes and doesn’t pay their taxes.
Solution to pay for the ‘so-called’ stimulus plan – audit and collect back taxes on all Democratic Cabinet members and Congressmen – we can easily hit a Trill.

  44. Posted by guest | February 5, 2009 at 8:27 PM

34 and his like are hilarious. Why do you care if people pay their taxes since you want to cut those taxes anyway? (Is there ever a time when increasing taxes is desireable on a macro-economic level? You wouldn’t think so from listening to the selfish far-right ding-a-lings on this board.)
You want to talk about amateurs? How about the amateurs that have orchestrated the destruction of billions, if not trillions, of dollars in wealth? Those guys are geniuses, right? Is that competence, destroying billions of dollars in wealth? The level of arrogance on this board is amusing at times, but misplaced always.

Maybe he should take a little peak at that Rasmussen poll, I mean he touted Rasmussen’s poll when he was running, how did Rasmussen suddenly become “persona non grata”? She did pay her taxes, so her tax returns are clean. The liens were against her husband’s business. Though he went ahead an paid them, he’s challenging them. Any small business owner can relate.
