If you're hiding from South American drug cartels, Virginia may not be a bad choice...it really comes down to the lesser of two evils A) hunted down and killed by Juan Valdez or B) getting picked up by the Feds and sent to the showers with Big Bob.

The "Sir" was found in Fredericksburg, VA. He was served SEC papers which he promptly used as toilet paper. Then he surrendered his passport, on his way to catch a plane for the US Virgin Islands, where no such thing is required. From there he's planning to end up in St. Maarten on his way to Switzerland.

I'm a little disappointed. I was about to start a betting pool on which country he would show up in. Namibia wouldn't have been a bad idea (Kobi Alexander seems to be doing relatively well in spite of an ongoing "trial"), but Vanuatu doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US or Interpol membership - the perfect combination.

The reason that the FBI released him is that the SEC has no criminal authority. The only case brought against Stanford is a CIVIL case, so there's not even the prospect for jail time right now.
I was surprised when I saw that he had been located in Fredericksburg, VA. - I was sure they meant Fredricksted, VI.
@26 is right - all he needs to do is go to the VI, get in a boat, and in about 6 hours he can be on some tiny island nation where the monkeys regale him with jungle stories.
