If you're hiding from South American drug cartels, Virginia may not be a bad choice...it really comes down to the lesser of two evils A) hunted down and killed by Juan Valdez or B) getting picked up by the Feds and sent to the showers with Big Bob.
Rumor is he enjoys the company of men, so the shower option may be more of a vacation than a punishment.
Boring. No fake suicide, no plane crash, no fugative on the run story. If I were Sir Stan of Douchebag I would have hid in a spyder hole like Sadam. It took months to find him.
The FBI is such a group of PC whimp douchebags. As usual, the clowns follow the Bureau's 'catch & release' policy.
If the limp-dick agents had any balls, they would have taken Stanford "into protective custody" so he would be safe from "those who wish to do him harm".
Unfortunately, FBI agents usually don't think creatively. It's no wonder they get no respect.
the Headquarters compound of the Central Intelligence Agency located in Langley, Virginia, shall be known and designated as the "George Bush Center for Intelligence."
The "Sir" was found in Fredericksburg, VA. He was served SEC papers which he promptly used as toilet paper. Then he surrendered his passport, on his way to catch a plane for the US Virgin Islands, where no such thing is required. From there he's planning to end up in St. Maarten on his way to Switzerland.
Really disappointing. By now, he should have had plastic surgery, transferred funds from his untraceable offshore accounts so he'd have a few tens of millions to travel with and headed for some third world hideout.
Wouldn't a player of this magnitude be chilling in his own personal submarine? If there ever was a guy who needed one just in case, he would be the guy.
Ok. I don't want to talk out of turn but I just heard that "Yoga Amanda" was boning Mark Stys of Stanford Capital Management fame and if that is true, it is just so wrong on so many levels....
I'm a little disappointed. I was about to start a betting pool on which country he would show up in. Namibia wouldn't have been a bad idea (Kobi Alexander seems to be doing relatively well in spite of an ongoing "trial"), but Vanuatu doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US or Interpol membership - the perfect combination.
The reason that the FBI released him is that the SEC has no criminal authority. The only case brought against Stanford is a CIVIL case, so there's not even the prospect for jail time right now.
I was surprised when I saw that he had been located in Fredericksburg, VA. - I was sure they meant Fredricksted, VI.
@26 is right - all he needs to do is go to the VI, get in a boat, and in about 6 hours he can be on some tiny island nation where the monkeys regale him with jungle stories.
@25 is right - a knighthood awarded by a tin pot nation means fwa. Mind you most the knighthoods awarded in the uk go to douch bag politicos, donors etc so more in common than you think

Sir Stan has nothing to worry about if he's been helping to launder money for drug-related U.S. intelligence operations.
He is a free man, perpetually, no matter what.

He should not be referred to as "Sir Stanford." The correct usage is "Sir Allen."
Colonials.

TGFD has some knowledge of chivalric matters.
The "knighthood" that Stan received isn't worth a shit. I believe it originated in some Caribbean island nation and has no standing or legitimacy.
Neither "Sir" Allen nor "Sir" Stanford would be appropriate in his case. Just plain Stan the Thief would suffice.

I agree with @27. this guy had everything the LatAm connections, money, time.
I can't believe he didn't have an escape strategy. He should've read dealbreaker.
This and the news that GS partners were doubling down their bets is really depressing. Are there any clever people left in the world?

TGFD also thought that somehow GS partners were smarter than the average gambler. Doubling down? Good grief.
Is it any wonder that winkie got canned?
