Does anyone else find it interesting that, while the Mets managed to seal their stadium naming deal with Citibank, the Yankees are shit out of luck?
The Yankees and troubled Bank of America have ended talks for a major sponsorship deal for the new Yankee Stadium.The Yankees were reportedly close to a lucrative signature sponsorship deal with the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank in September that would have approached the $20 million per year Citigroup has agreed to pay the Mets for naming rights to Citi Field.

I think the Yankees made the right move. Why would NYY want a bank from Charlotte adorned to their new palace? Morgan Stanley? J.P. Morgan? Goldman would be more appropriate at the Nationals Stadium (BTW-what's up with all the Exxon Mobil ads at Nats' Park?).

Both the Mets and Yankees played on Polo Grounds at various times, though the Yankees started at Hilltop park when they first got to NY. They didn't move to the Bronx until the '20s. The Mets, who didn't come around until the '60s played for only a few seasons at Polo Grounds before moving to Queens.

This was never an agreement to put B of A's name on the stadium itself, Yankee Stadium will never carry a corporate name next to it. It would have been for signange in and around the Stadium (i.e. Gate D would be named the Bank of America entrance at Yankee Stadium and they would control a majority of signage and ATMs in the park). Things like that.
